The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) has announced that a major exhibit dedicated to broadband videogames, dubbed "The Cable Game Arena," will be held at The 2006 National Show, an annual trade show for the cable telecommunications industry.

The announcement of the exhibit was heralded with official NCTA organizer comments that: "With the introduction in recent years of several popular gaming consoles that can utilize a high-speed Internet connection for live competition, the consumer broadband gaming marketplace is exploding and has become a significant factor in adoption of cable modem service."

"Because cable offers the fastest speeds with the best customer experience in America, our high-speed Internet platform is ideal for broadband video gaming, which is why these applications present such a growth opportunity for our industry," said Kyle McSlarrow, NCTA President & CEO. "The educational sessions will explore the full spectrum of broadband gaming and we expect that the Cable Game Arena will be a highlight of the exhibit show floor."
Huh! Anyone here live in Atlanta?

I live about 2 1/2 hours away. DragonCon is a good time in downtown Atlanta and so was the E3 back in '98.

They had an E3 in Atlanta? Fuck me gently.

CaptStu! You should be too busy to be cruising gaming sites during the work day, my boy!

Oh. The convention is just an advertisement for GameTap, which is also headquartered here in Atlanta.

Interesting, perhaps.

yep. Was not as large as the E3 back in LA the next year but '98 was a good gamming year. Got to see Rainbow 6 and I-WAR in the deep south first.

We do get some traveling games events -- had one last year at the large club The Masquerade. Not gonna be able to free up time to check this out though.

And you, my friend. You got a company to run.

Got my 360 over Xmas. Look me up sometime. Only have COD2 and PGR3, and of course, Halo 2 at the moment.

A little over an hour outside ATL here.

They had a gaming event at the Masquerade? Something about that hurts my brain. I couldn't begin to count the number of times I've been to the Masq, and gaming geeks are just *not* something I associate with the venue. :-)

They had DJs, soft drinks and other product tie-in's etc. Took it over for the night. Not certain is anybody actually went to it though...;->

Just north of Atlanta myself and I would have to agree with Slack3r here...I can't imagine any kind of gaming event being held at the Masq. The logistics of it elude me.

Anybody here been to DragonCon? Is it pretty much a geekfest like the Trekkie meets? I'm in NC and wouldn't half mind going to it, since I'm about to finish the damn series now.

I'm pretty close to ATL. This could make up for me missing DragonCon. No, probably not.

Well, it kind of depends on what you mean by geekfest. I've never been to a strictly Star Trek convention so I can't truly compare, but DragonCon is definately a massive convention that caters to all things geek: gaming (video, table top, roleplaying, and card), fantasy and sci-fi (books, movies and TV), computing in general, comics, and just about anything else you can think of. There are plenty of great guests for all the mediums too (authors, actors, you name it).

If that kind of thing interests you then the Con is great. If it sounds too geeky for you then you should stay away, as there is well over ten thousand in attendance, and a few will no doubt scare you with their geekiness.

Naw I am not scared by the geekiness, but I know your just about a weirdo if you show up at a Trek Convention not decked out in full attire. Hence I can take a few geeks in attendance, as long as I am not expected to show up wielding my own battle-axe. :)
