Computer and Video Games has posted a preview (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=218420) of Ubisoft's upcoming action game, Assassin's Creed II.
Ezio will be able to swim and dive in the canals of Venice, and we're told that, where Altair could blend with monks, Ezio can blend in with "any kind of group of citizens" in the crowd. You'll be able to move freely while blending too, instead of being forced to walk the same path as your habited friends. While weapons such as warhammers and axes can be snatched from guards, unarmed combat has been made more complex and involving to encompass a wider range of combos and to that effect, there's a spate of new assassination moves too.

Eh, nothing more than what Game Informer had in their preview a few months ago. It's still looking like it'll be a balls load of fun.

What I want to know, can we finally kill our main targets without having to fight EVERY guard in the area afterwords? I cannot really call a character an assassin if they cannot kill with stealth.

I could always get out without a fight, what bothered me more was that the target always knew you were coming (and started screaming and alerting everyone)... even if they couldn't see you and you hadn't moved in any way to alert them. For example: on the boat scene I made my way from the opposite side of the marina and latched on to the side of his boat, and the target saw me through the boat. There were two guards on that side of the boat that had absolutely no idea I was there, plus a couple more with him, but somehow he magically spots me with everyone else still oblivious (properly so, since I was under a boat). That chase was such a pain. Think I only managed to pull off one story assassination without being spotted in advance (the hospitalier).
That aside, this game is going to be awesome.

Assassins kill by surprise. Ain't what happens afterward kinda secondary?

Not if they plan on making a career out of it.

The problem in the first one is that no, they didn't. Your targets generally saw you coming a mile away. No surprise there.

Maybe we can go for the target when he isn't surrounded by guards... or at night?
The swimming is a nice touch. The only justification I could make to the insta-drown was that he would rather die than be seen wet in a white suit. Hey, maybe we should get a girl assassin in the next game...

I enjoyed the first one, despite the luke warm reception it got from the majority of the industry and gamers. Did it get repetitive? Yeah, sure it did. But it was still a load of fun taking out a mob of guards with such elegance. I have high hopes and anticipations for the sequel.
