View Full Version : Penny Arcade Enter the Iron Fist Tournament

It must have been a nice surprise for the Penny Arcade guys to open a letter from Namco and find out it wasn't to sue them for Gabe's Pac-Man t-shirt. It looks like the Cardboard Tube Samurai will be a character in the upcoming sequel to Tekken.
The Twitter feed tekkenbob, the official feed for Tekken 6, dropped an interesting twitpic today. Along with a tweet mentioning that he "got a sneak peek at something I can't talk about yet" was the above picture. Who does that look like to you?
Gamertag Radio called it: it is Cardboard Tube Samurai, a recurring character from the web comic Penny Arcade. Mind you, this is not confirmed. We'll do our best to get something more concrete for you this weekend, but we're with GTR in guessing that they'll hold their cards close to their chests until this year's Penny Arcade Expo.
Gabe has confirmed this via Twitter,
http://twitpic.com/7uojn Yes this is for real. Cts costume will be in tekken 6!
Thanks Destructoid. (http://www.destructoid.com/penny-arcade-s-cardboard-tube-samurai-a-playable-in-tekken-6-136923.phtml)
Cool!

Agreed. Very cool. I like how the PA guys also did a few one-pagers of other new series recently. Good to see them branching out beyond their normal cast of characters.

Wow, that's awesome.
Ive never been a Tekken person though, so I guess this really doesn't matter to me in the long run.

I realize that they are trying to get non-fighting game fans more interested, but enough with the crossover characters already. At least it isn't as bad as star wars characters in SC4.

It's a costume for Yoshimitsu, don't get panties in bunch.

That is F*ING BADASS. T6 is multi-platform right? I don't have to go out and throw down $600 for a PS3?

Yup. One of the many games that finally is coming to the Xbox 360.
Man... I sounded like I work for Microsoft or something. Ugh.

Cool that they're doing this, but really....
I skip over PA on the days the Cardboard Tube Samurai is in it. Neither funny nor entertaining.

This is very cool for PA. Congrats to Gabe on having one of his designs picked up by Namco.

This is pretty cool of Namco to do. CTS is a beloved character and I'm sure that some people are going to check out T6 if only for that.
Heh, I use CTS as a signature image on another forum. This is sweet news.

So it's officially safe to call them sellouts now?

No, but you could throw down $399.99 for a PS3 or wait until Madden 10 gets released and throw down $349.99.
That way you can join in our Fat Princess clan. :p

Could you please explain to me how that would be selling out?

That's kind of cool. If it was more than just an extra costume I'd be really excited.

This is 2009, no one cares about sellouts anymore.

this game is so crazy. My friends and i play it at the arcade with a few friends whenever we head up there. Gonna love playing it on my 360 also.
I'm not sure how a character from a web comic about games appearing in a game could ever be evidence of selling out.
Cheerios advert? That'd be different.

As if I didn't have enough reasons to pick this game up already, this is just icing on the cake now.

It would be selling out if they have knocked Tekken in the past, or lauded its competitors as being better. Have they?
