Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has posted some tasty news (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3049) regarding a new Star Trek title that's in the works from developer Mad Doc Software. The original news comes from an exclusive article in the February issue of The Game Informer print magazine (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200601/N06.0113.1202.19442.htm). Game Infomer is reporting that the new game is entitled, Star Trek: Legacy and is slated for release on the PC and Xbox 360 platforms in September 2006. As stated above, Mad Doc Software is the developer but Bethesda Softworks is the publisher of the title.

According to the article the game is an action-strategy hybrid title for both the PC and Xbox 360 and will actually span the entire Star Trek timeline, from Enterprise to the original series to the Next Gen-DS9-Voyager timeframes...

A few things I will say is that it's been a long time coming. Like I said before, traditional ST single player/multi player games have returned - and before STO ships like I also said. And no, just because it was announced in this issue, doesn't mean development just started. As for bugs, well, different publisher, and much more stringent requirements for Xbox 360. And as for graphics, once you see the screenshots and this thing in motion, you will be blown away.
Damn, I hope they can pull this off! It's been years since I've played a good Star Trek game.

I dont think an "action adventure" star trek game is even a good idea. Its just too tame. I want an MMO...

I thought Elite Force 2 was excellent. And I'm not even a Star Trek fan!

Elite Force was great (again, except for the last boss battle), and the multiplayer was a blast too.

Elite Force II was also pretty good, but I have to put the first game ahead here because I just didn't like some of the weapon changes they made in EF II. Particularly the hand-phaser's range being cut down to what seemed like 20 feet. That was just fucking retarded.

Bridge Commander had good potential, but out of the box was just missing something. The mods for it have really propped it up, but even with all that my interest in it only strikes very occasionally anymore.

Starfleet Command was a good franchise until the 3rd one came along and hamstrung it by dumbing it down so much and slicing the selectable races down to the old vanilla Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg buffett. Yawn. I always prefer the Federation so I'm good to go there, an no insult intended to the other three, but yanking the Gorn and all the others was just stupid.

According to the Christmas issue of PC Gamer here in the UK, there's one in production as we speak, slated for release this year.

Although for some reason I'm never sure how far I can trust PC Gamer...

Like many of us, I'm also hoping for a great ST game... be it Legacy or the MMO. I just really want this franchise to find its footing again. I can only watch TNG re-runs so many times! :D

Lets all be realistic and not get our hopes up. Star-Trek is trickier than a solinear transient reactor, science dissipation thruster using a flight silicon nacelle to align the environmental control spectrum. There is no way they can pull it off.

Ahh, but maybe if they redirect warp power to the main deflector dish they can pull it off...

...either that or something involving tachyons

"... bounce a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish / that's the way we do things, lad..."

I, too, anxiously await a new Star Trek game. *looks at shelf* Actually, I haven't even finished The Fallen yet. Hm, maybe one last all-night gaming hurrah before classes begin.

I don't want awesome plasticky starship graphics (of course, the majority of audience in Xbox 360 would like to see this). I want awesome gameplay mechanics like what Starfleet Command + Birth of the Federation have.

"Awesome gameplay mechanics" and "BotF" used in the same sentence... that's fresh. I'll admit I played that game to death and thought it was awesome, but the AI was completely flawed, the combat was new, but required serious modding before lasting more than 2 turns. Lastly the remaning game was pretty much just a copy of games already made at that time.

But it was great, and I still hang out with the original BotF-community, although theres only 6-7 of us left hehe :)
