IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/995/995259p1.html) has posted a new story, which is based on a story, that you can read for yourself in Game Informer (out now!). It'll be using RAGE, have Euphoria, and have a new take on Bullet Time with Environmental Bullet Time. Huh?
The game is being built with Rockstar's RAGE, used to build past games like Grand Theft Auto IV, in combination with NaturalMotion's Euphoria technology that allows for enemies to react realistically to being hit by gunfire and as they impact things in the environment, which Rockstar is hoping delivers a greater sense of realism. To protect himself from incoming bullets, Max will also be able to take cover behind objects as well as grab enemies to use them as human shields, though taking advantage of the cover system isn't required for success. It seems quite a few bits of the environment will also be destructible, so perhaps not every bit of cover will be all that reliable.
Something called environmental bullet time is being built into the game, which according to the article can be compared to quick-time events in other titles. Yet instead of doing something like tapping a button within a small window of time, the player will have full control of Max as the event progresses. Rockstar provided one example to Game Informer, where Max slides down a tin roof in slow motion while tagging nearby enemies with bullets.
This won't be an open-world game, though it seems Max will have a limited ability to scale walls and access combat areas from a few different directions. A bullet-cam, which follows projectiles into their targets, will be implemented into the game to add more style, and it seems Max will be able to perform life-saving kill shots should he be near death. If he manages to kill his killer before the screen goes black, he'll spring back to life thanks to an adrenaline boost.
Environmental bullet time sound odd.

Actually, I played a demo of this. Environmental Bullet Time is just like regular Bullet Time, but before you can shoot anyone, you have to plant a tree sapling.

Aww, the greener Max Payne. No wonder he looks so dirty, he must have stopped using all that water to wash his clothes.

Hmm I must've played a different demo, because when i entered EBT I turned into Al Gore and lectured everyone to death.

Doesn't sound too inspiring. Oh well.

Sounds like I'm going to be forced to buckle down and finally finish Max Payne 2 now.
The first two in the series were a lot of fun, so I have faith that they will pull this off as well.

I don't like how the new Max looks... the character feels like something straight out of GTA, and not a character of his own world. I imagine they'll probably use a new voice and try to change the comic page feel as well (if they still have that)... but they end up doing that then they lose everything that is Max Payne.

I gotta say the over weight wife beating Max Payne, the change in voice actor and now quick time events is not making me feel very confident in this game. As as huge fan of the previous titles to me it seems that the new creators may have never played the original. Got the same feeling with Bionic Commando too...

Think it sounds pretty cool, but I don't at all like the new looks Max Payne has. They also did the "follow projectile into target" gimmick in the first game, although it was only when you used the Sniper Rifle.
Are they changing the voice of Max Payne? What did I miss?

If they do that then they kill the franchise. Simple as that.

Well then, they already killed it. :P
Rockstar won't be using voice actor James McCaffrey again, saying it wouldn't really fit considering how much Max has aged. The talent being used won't be a big recognizable name, but Rockstar is confident it'll be appropriate, and the studio plans on giving Max plenty of lines of internal dialogue in the style of the previous games

Here are all the details you need: it's not being developed by Remedy, nor written by Sam Lake, and it's going to be horrible trash.

I think you are right, I have seen absolutely nothing coming out that reminds me of the previous games at all. I think this is a bait and switch, get a franchise, change it to something else (mini GTA clone) and keep the title to suckering the fans of the original games into buying the game. Strip out the title of max payne and it is OBVIOUS that its a GTA game.
Oh rockstar, what has happned too you? You used to be cool, back when you made GTA III and the warriors, I thought you were the shitz, then after microsoft threw all that money your way for an exclusive, you changed. Your like that valedictorian in HS that you hear became a ceo, and possible president, only to suddenly find yourself a crack whore willing to turn tricks for your pimp in order to get your next fix.

I would want that if it was anything like the other two.
Seems I will be able to save some money then.
Why change something so close to perfection?

Whoa, hol' up, hold the F--K up. Are people upset over a more grizzled, bald, and bearded Max? More GTA Rage engine wah, more beards wah. You all voted for change, let's not forget. "The first thing we said was, let's make the shooting fun and the reactions fun--every shot needs to feel right." yes, every one. I like the approach shot here.

I have no problem with what I've seen/heard so far. Olding balding bearded Max Payne I'm intrigued by. Original voice actor not coming back? That's OK, I didn't think he was that good anyway. They'll likely replace him with another David Hayder clone anyway. I can't decide if it's David Hayder or Clint Eastwood that ruined video game voice acting.

As long as they have levels like the funhouse level in Max Payne 2, I'm good.

The Portuguese(Brazillian) voice actor was flawless. One of the best in any game I played. The dark story and narrative, the comic, everything was just right.
They shouldn't really change anything. Just add some more graphical juice, more levels, more painkillers and it is golden.
