I've lost count of the number of the fan patches that have been released, yet here is another patch!
The patch notes can be read here (http://www.3dgamers.com/news/more/1096483750/) at 3DGamers. (http://www.3dgamers.com/)

I believe you mean unofficial. Other than that, I have not played this game for lack of an able computer, but the fan support has been phenomenal.

I think that headline should read "unofficial" :)

It's definitely unofficial, given the company that developed the game, Troika, is no longer in business.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. What I don't understand is how a company that put out a game that's getting this kind of support from the consumers can go out of business. They only developed two titles to my knowledge, did they screw something up?

I thought the game was fun but the bugs killed it for me... I might retry it one day when to see how these unofficial patches are....anyone test it yet?

Troika developed 3 titles.
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic Greyhawk Adventure
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
I actually think they had one more that I can't remember it's name. But I am not sure.

They released three titles - Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - none of which sold all that well to my knowledge. All of their titles were also riddled with bugs, which certainly did not help sales. I'm sure their reasons for going under are fairly complicated though.

don't bother trrying this game ... even with the patches its just such a disgrace. And it really had some potential too.

I finished this game before even the first official patch was released - it is an incredible RPG. The weakest part of Bloodlines was its use of Source. A graphically inferior game compared to HL2 still managed to eat up the same (if not more) resources. Plus, the loading screens were...um.
After Troika's untimely demise, I'm just glad to see the fan community continue to support this amazing RPG.

Wha? Are you kidding me? The game was one of the best RPGs to come out in years. I mean, it alone should be played just for two things: The haunted hotel level and making a Malkavian character. The rest of the game was fun as hell, too. It may have been buggy in parts but these unofficial patches have fixed a lot of that.

Troika was a sad case study in development houses. They had *great* ideas, and were usually able to go 90% of the way to turning them into excellent games, but always missed the last 10%, leaving their works disappointingly bug-riddled. It's only the fantastic fan support that save their games.
-Arcanum *should* have been a steampunk Fallout, and was poised for the same fanbase, but the bugs turned people off.
-ToEE *should* have been an innovative and attractive entry into the field of Modern D&D computer games, but again, the bugs ended up making it remind people of that Pools of Radiance remake.
-Vampire *should* should have been a milestone in modern RPGs, but instead was overshadowed by the bugs, poor publisher support, and the collapse of Troika.

Blatant lies. I managed to play through the entire game with the earlier patches and never once experienced any noticeable bugs.
The main problem it does have is the number of serious load screens. Other than that it's a fantastic game and any rpg fan would have fun with it.

I loved this game. Tons of fun, lots of freedom. It wasn't perfect, but it was the most fun I've had since Fallout, and that's pretty impressive.
Any dedicated PC Gamer with an interest in RPG's owes it to himself to try this game.

Honestly, you haven't had fun in a game until you've played Vampire as a Malkavian.

The game is hella buggy, and turns into a dungeon crawl at the end. Hope you practiced combat skills Ventru and Malkavanians!

Unfortunately I ran into a game stopping bug with this even using the very latest fan patch (the one before this one). Hopefully others have better luck.

It's amazing, just how well/horribly this game plays for different people and systems. I had around 2 CTD's on my first run through the game--prior to the first official patch. Played through with no major issues... loved it.
A friend of mine finally (after repeated badgering) played this in November 2005, nearly a year late. He had all kinds of issues, and almost didn't finish it (a travesty!) due to various lockups and crashes on an A64 X2 system. Even after patching it to the latest unofficial patches, he had several game-related problems... but he DID complete it, and agreed it was worth the trouble :) And he's not even an RPG guy!!

I'll keep that in mind for my third playthrough.

Ignorance= playing for 10 hours trying to get this game to even run correctly on a X800 PCI-E with 2 Gigs of RAM. Its poor coding. I had huge hopes for the game and tried to play it in spite of it obvious and painful flaws. In the end, getting the game to run turned out to be the real game and I didn't have time to waste on it.
