Popular MMORPG City of Heroes is preparing to launch in Asia, cashing in on the enormous MMO potential within the Korean gaming market. The launch adds some interesting new Asian-themed heroes to the current CoH superhero roster, as well as a fantastic CGI introductory video (http://www.cityofheroes.com/gallery/movies.html) demonstrating the new heroes abilities, all of which can be found on the official CoH site (http://www.coh.com/news/archives/2006/01/city_of_hero_as.html). The official Asian site is located at http://www.coh.co.kr.

And no, the title is not a misspelling: the game has been renamed City of HERO in its Asian launch.

Ohh. Does this mean new costume options?

Haha, the title got preemptively Engrished.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of the Korean language, but this linguistic juggling might have to do with grammar and diction?

of course, saying it got "Engrished" is right on the money, I think ;)

Well, good for them, I hope it goes well.

I haven't played since beta. Anyone want to give me a quick synopsis of what's new? The game was kinda unfinished when I left, have they improved the content much?

The game was kinda unfinished when I left, have they improved the content much? They've recently instituted a bunch of balance changes that people have cried and whined about, but overall, I have very few complaints, and I've been playing for the better part of a year now. They've added new powersets, improved the graphics (adding ragdoll physics to fallen enemies, which makes for some great animations while fighting near railings!), and generally keep adding material whenever they can. They're prepping Issue 7 for February 2006 (allegedly), which adds new endgame content and some extra abilities for lowbies to get them through the hard stuff to the more rewarding middle-level content.

Basically, I'm a happy player. :D

The change of name presumably happened because Asians cannot accept the fact that there are other heroes in the game. According to the recurring monthly payment on your CC bill, they will make you THE ONE!

This stereotype sounds racist and is true! You can thank all the kung fu movies they imported into the US.

More goodness for those of us who are still enjoying CoX since the initial beta and beyond! Despite the adjustments over the past many months (what established MMO hasn't had em?), I'm still engrossed in the game and can't wait to get on every chance I get.

It looks ok... but I still prefer the English version. ;) lol

As far as the title being Engrished... it's possible. Originally City of Heroes was spelled "City of Heros"...

B.QFT! Same here, although I'm just playing CoH, and not the evil counterpart.

Sidenote to BalekFekete: I see you are on Guardian server, as am I! @Doctor Setebos -- look me up!

I have no idea what was happening in that video, but it was pretty sweet anyway.

If you look at the news item that goes along with the video on the COH main page there's a whole several paragraph story that goes along with the video. As for the City of Hero thing, Awry indicated that it has something to do with the translation from english to Korean.

As a side note, Foreshadow, the little scrappy guy with the girlfriend who flows like water, appeared in the second CoV trailer.

Awry has also stated that there will be no changes from the US/EU version to the Korean/Asian version gameplay wise.

Yeah, last time I checked there wasn't a crazy sword and shotgun weilding powerset.

Speculation is that pistol scrappers come into play with Issue 7.

Yeah, but there also aren't any tanks that can throw lighting bolts (Statesman) or a "possess enemy" powerset (Sister Psyche). The signature heroes have always gotten cool stuff that the PCs can't.

States isn't a Tank, he's an Incarnate.

Yeah, I know, but his abilities are pretty much tank/brute-like, except he can also throw lightning. And then you've got Electrical Flurry from Synapse, Fiery Axe from Infernal, a bunch of other stuff. the point is, the signature heroes get stuff the regular PCs don't, so I doubt we'll be seeing electrical sword/pistol attacks any time soon.

Pistols are on the drawing board, but Electrical Melee, Electrical Armor, Shields (offense and defense) and Street Fighting are all in line ahead of them, according to Geko.

He's a super strength tank in-game, with you know. . . INCREDIBLE POWER! :) At least in the one encounter I've had with him (saving his ass). Still, they used the super strength sets for his powers and he never threw any lightning bolts.

He has the "Lightning of Zeus" or some crap. He used it (when he was being played by Jack Emmeret) during the end of beta CoV event to fry a bunch of lowbie villains in Mercy Island. Oh, and it's in the CCG game, too, I believe.
