Stardock's digital delivery service has added two more big names to their stable of publishers. Both Ubisoft and Activision have some games that are now available for purchase. GI.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/stardock-adds-ubisoft-activision-games-to-impulse):

Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Prototype are now available on the service, with Ubisoft games Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed and Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East announced as coming soon.

"As our Impulse platform continues to gain favour among PC gaming fans, we're continuously adding the best titles the industry has to offer," said Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.

I'm still a Steam man, but its nice to see Stardock taking strides to be competitive in this space.

And as expected, only available to North American customers.

While I use both steam and impulse, I do appreciate how impulse does NOT need to run for me to play a game I have downloaded from it. I have not yet found a way for this to work for steam games.

Steam always needs to run, but it doesn't need to be online. For this reason, I tend to prefer Impulse, but it's not a huge deal. I just picked up Sword of the Stars (w/ both expansions) from Impulse for $8. Can't beat that...

Except that Steam only works in offline mode for a few days before it randomly decides to delete "my login information", and refuse to let me access any of my games until I connect online again. It's been doing this to me since the launch of the client years ago, and has done it across all of my PCs. Steam should make it very clear that every single game bought under it requires a constant online connection every day to be reliably played.
