We have confirmation that the Halo 3: ODST branded wireless 360 controller will be included in the collector's edition of the title. The package will be sold exclusively through GameStop and will include a bunch of other extras including Halo: Reach beta access. Non-US regions will be able to purchase the bundle at a variety of locations.

The pack, which will set you back $99, is already available for pre-order on Gamestop's site, and includes a Sgt. Johnson playable character token in the four player Firefight co-op mode, as well as acces to the Halo: Reach beta.

Anyone who pre-orders Halo:ODST, not just Gamestop shoppers, will get the Sgt. Johnson token as well as the Halo: Reach invitation, although you'll be shelling out an extra $40 for the custom controller if you decide to upgrade ... which actually isn't bad considering that they still retail for $49.99. How hardcore of a Halo fan are you? This pack might be your breaking point.

It's nice, very similar to the Halo 3 one though.

They gonna make a ODST ChatPad too?

Nothing I've seen of ODST makes we want to spend $60, let alone $100. Besides that, the controller's nice for collectors I suppose, but it doesn't seem like the best addition to try and drum up sales. In the end, it doesn't matter. It's a Halo game so it'll sell like crazy and I'm sure the Collector's Edition will sell out quickly enough.

Is this controller the one with a better D-Pad?

Why would they have it be Master Chief Green when the Master Chief isn't, as far as we know, IN ODST?

I mean, the problem with this controller looks to reinforce the problem with this game: the fact that they're selling back to you the same game that you already own.

It would have to be a chatpad that had just 4 keys:

"STFU!@!!!!@!!"
"OMG HAX U SUCKS!!!@@!"
"PWNED L00$ER!!!@!@!!"
"1 FU$K#D YR M0THER!!@@!!"

That's patently false, have you even bothered to read any of the previews or hands on time? I probably won't pick up the collector's editon, but this game has still got me excited. It's a whole new game with completely new levels, a new sandbox-ish approach, some innovative story telling mechanics, and a revamped combat system where the battles are smaller but more tactically focused with a weaker main character. Plus, having the included map packs is a nice touch.

Well maybe this goes hand in hand with a thought I was having in another thread, but I think the far for what consitutes a new game is much lower than what it was in decades previous.

I mean, I like how the developers keep saying "it's a brand new character" as a list of the reasons this is a full value product. What is the monetary value in looking at a different character model? I have been keeping up with ODST and at it's value price it was a standard expansion pack. But now that they're selling it as it's own full fledged game it's a different story.

I think it looks alright, certainly a HELL of a lot better then those Halo 3 McFarlane ones.

They looked terrible.

I think they're stressing that the play will be different because you are no longer the superest of super soldiers, not just that you'll be looking at a different model.

Oh, so it's a chat pad for 12 year olds!

I like the look and idea of ODST, but I don't think I can bring my self to spend the $60.

I like the controller, but the problem I have is that they never make any matching accessories for the special ones.

Batteries and chatpads and charging cables need to be included or available.

I wonder how well the ODST controller will look next to the Chromehounds faceplate?

I am thinking the whole dynamic of the game is going to be changed because you are not a Spartan.

still 3-5 hours of gameplay? so you're paying $90 for the controller and $10 for a DLC equivalent, well, with media at least.
