Over on the [H]ard Forums (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1004475) you can find a few samples of music from the Nintendo DS game Electroplankton created by a user steviep.

It's pretty interesting to hear what you can make with the game. Has anyone tried this out yet? Thoughts, comments, more samples?

I have the Japanese version and it's still great to tinker with every now and again but I can't stress enough that it's not really a game.
Don't buy it expecting to play it for long sessions or that you have any goals/unlockables/achievements whatsoever to work towards.
So long as you're fine with that, and you're happy to have 10 interactive basic music tools that are fun to fiddle with now and again and to show off to friends, then it's worth a purchase.

I've had Electroplankton for....shit, I dunno, since the summer, I imported it. It's a fun little title. Though admittedly not for everyone. I second Lonely Rabbit in that it's not really a game per se, more of a sandbox for sound.

Can you do Hail to the Thief-esque stuff on there? :)

Simple.

Get a copy of the "game"
Get a 1/8" audio cable
Connect from headphone jack to audio in on computer (mic or line in)
Download Audacity from sourceforge
Play said "game"
Record on computer
Mix to whatever you want

This is possible for any OS. I will say this, the "game" has probably some of the best sound quality you've heard yet on a portable. Just amazing.

I've had more fun learning how to mix with this thing than anything else, and it is good for 5 minute jaunts to just do something different.

It's also incredible for my 3-yr-old son to get some really good problem solving and hand eye coordination things going. I've also been amazed at what type of sounds he produces with it.

I saw a hack where a guy routed his guitar into the microphone port with a little bit of success.

Ah, here it is: http://www.milezero.org/index.cgi/gaming/society/art/composing_with_electroplankton_part_four.html

Think Amnesiac/Kid A moreso.

I got this in the mail on monday and I can tell you, this might not be a game in the traditional sense, but its a great little toy to mess around with. Its fun, inspiring and is action packed with personality. And it has to have the best instruction manual ever.

I'm really looking forward to picking this up. Anybody else know where any more samples are?

I'm quite enjoying Electroplankton. It's a great little music toy. Nice headphones are a must. I think this video (http://www.nintendo.com/gameminiav?gameid=db2f8da6-2e1b-48cb-b142-a90899e8a1a8) is the one from E3 with a professional DJ performing with two copies.
