War World: Tactical Combat (http://www.warworld.net/) is a fast-paced mech game soon to be released. We had the pleasure of taking the preview version for a spin recently, and you can read the result here (http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/wwpreview).

I seem to remember a demo of this 3 months ago.

And it felt like they tried to wedge mechs into serious sam.

I'd like to play a mech game that was actually fun.

The game from a few months ago wasn't bad, in all honest. Not great, but worth the $20 I threw at it. They need to tune the loadouts so there's a good reason to take one chassis over another (right now, any chassis can mount any equipment, you just base your whole decision on whether you like more armor or more speed to go with the same max-package of guns and shields). I think that's one of the things they are doing for the re-worked release with a publisher.

C'mon... everybody bitches about how too few indies get a decent shot... War World may not be be the Mechwarrior replacement we really need, but for what it costs, it fun enough. Give the little guys a little support.

So why are games looking more and more like 3D benchmark demos these days?

Oh look, they know how to make a straight light emanate 5000 watts of light. Lets quickly make the "ass scratching" emote animation turn a dual 7800 SLI setup to heat your Alaskan log cabin into a freaking Nigerian sand dune.

I blame anime for this.

Giant Robots are awesome! I want to play this game, it looks awesome and the bitter trolls that lurk in EA are awesome!

Ayup.

Sure, it's nothing incredibly special or different, but it's a good solid indie game at a budget price.

You know, it's either something that's total arcade MechAssault, or total simulation Steel Battalion.

Can't we have something in the middle? Something that forces the action but requires some strategy with the online capabilities of MechAssault? I mean, I would love an 8-on-8 capable game that plays like just an upgraded version of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. There was nothing wrong with that game, why must people try to fix it?

If you squint real hard at the screen and pretend space ships are mecs, then EvE Online is the perfect game for you.

your right in saying there was nothing wrong, but we have played that game, to death, and need something alittle more fresh.

I heard about this game ages ago and i'm very impressed with what they have come up with. I'll be buying this when it comes out.

Hell if are a small indie dev house then they should bring this out on 360 as a download from arcade :D

This game confuses me. Some sites have previews, other sites have reviews (http://pc.gamedaily.com/game/review/?gameid=4625&page=1&rp=47) . Was there some kind of miscommunication somewhere?

It plays like a very shallow FPS... which just happens to be using models/skins of a robotic nature. Servers were plagued with cheaters, last time I played it, since the game is relatively simple to hack.

hehe

What I meant to say was the effects are way over the top. It hard to see what's going on with the crazy thick light beams in every direction.

Seriously. I bought this at least 2 months ago, more likely 3. I don't think I played it but a handful of times, however.

The released/sold it themselves a while back. Then they got a publisher and halted sales while they spiffed the game up with new content and changes. Soon they'll be selling this publisher-funded version (I think those of us who bought the original get to upgrade for free).

This one slipped by me, I'll have to try it when they re-release it
