G4TV has word (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696413/Electronic-Arts-Confirms-Battlefield-3-In-Development.html) Electronic Arts confirmed that DICE is currently working on Battlefield 3 and Criterion Games is working on a Need For Speed game.

Criterion Games working on a Need For Speed game wasn't the only surprising bit of news that Electronic Arts chief operating office John Pleasants tucked into his presentation at the William Blair Growth Stock Conference I listened to today. Pleasants confirmed he's seen DICE's work on Battlefield 3.

"I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product," he said. "Of course, that's not [coming out] in the fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good."

I wouldn't say it's surprising that Battlefield and NFS franchises are getting milked, again.

I don't think I'd call Criterion Games doing a NFS game "milking". They have proven themselves with the Burnout series. I highly doubt it will be a typical milk kind of game.

I'm very interested to see what they will do with the NFS franchise.

Hmm, I haven't played a Need For Speed game since Underground... I have confidence that Criterion will make a good one. I wonder if Burnout will eventually become part of the Need For Speed Series as that name, sadly, still has more clout than Burnout.

Burnout > NFS. Criterion are wasted on it.

Now this is something to get excited about. I am a huge Battlefield fan!!! ... ugh.. not the spin-offs, but the true Battlefield series. I been forever hoping for a true sequel to Battlefield 2. Yay, I'm officially stoked now!

A third one really?

NFS:Shift and NFS:Nitro are already in production.

Hopefully Criterion will take NFS back to it's roots of arcade style racing and police chases, and if they throw in some quality crash physics similar to Burnout then that wouldn't hurt my feeling either. With the "shift" that the series is taking on the next installment being a racing sim I just can't see it being successful. a NFS racing sim just can compete with the likes of Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5.

Er... Um... That was supposed to say "...just can't compete...". I really wish there was an edit button.

I haven't played NFS since "Hot Persuit". That game was pimp.

I will play the FUCK out of BF3. I'll be the guy stealing the helicopter, flipping it, and parachuting out.

I don't care if Battlefield goes multiplatform, but they better keep PC gaming mentality (lots of options, configurable, large numbers of combatants, authenticity) inside.

After Battlefield 2 I'm going to pass. They never fixed the game fully before releasing crappy little expansions and finding the correct patches for my version was a pain.
