The Godfather video games haven't done that well in the critical market. The Godfather II has a below average 65 on Metacritic while the first received a not much better 72. As such, Electronic Arts has fitted their series with a special set of cement shoes, claiming (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6211737.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;2) that they have no plans to make any further games based on this IP.
Now, it appears as if EA won't be returning for a third installment in the strategy-cum-action title. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times last week, EA Games president Frank Gibeau said that the Godfather had been fitted with a pair of cement shoes. "We're not going to do another one," he explicitly told the newspaper. Gibeau went on to say that an installment in the Godfather franchise was not part of EA's current production schedule, which the LA Times notes extends three years.
I enjoyed the first for what it was even though it had clear issues... its a shame that such a phenominal IP turned into such mediocrity.
