Good news everyone! Entertainment Weekly is reporting (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/06/its-official-futurama-returns.html) that Comedy Central has ordered 26 new episodes of Futurama.
A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television confirms that the cable net has ordered 26 new episodes of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's late, great animated series to air beginning in 2010. The studio cites Futurama's "blockbuster" performance on DVD and in reruns on Comedy Central as the reason for its rebirth.

Hot damn that's good news.
Easily my favorite animated show, maybe my favorite show all together.

Ugh. If they continue in the same way the direct-to-DVD crap has been going, no thanks.
If they're 26 standalone episodes, we'll talk.

The DVD's weren't terrible, but I admit, I don't quite consider them part of the series
Good news. Hope Kristen Gore is still attached.
YAY! this is wonderful news that makes me happy because it is the happiest news in the wonderful galaxy.

The article seems to imply that they will "air" on Comedy Central. Sounds like normal episodes.
Thankgod! The DVD's have been horrible. They *need* a 30 (22?) minute limit per episode, the DVD's just dragged on and on.
This is awesome news!

I enjoyed the DVDs quite a bit, although I have to admit they decreased in quality from 1-4. The first one (Bender's Big Score) was pure fan-service awesomeness. So many references that rewarded the long-time fan, a fun, typical-Futurama story, and lots of Bender being Bender. Beast with a Billion Backs was quite funny as well, but I didn't really dig the story as much and thought that the focus on Fry was less fun than the Bender-centric one. With Bender's Game, I thought they'd be getting back to the quality of the first one with a Bender-heavy story, but I ended up finding just OK. And I can't even remember the name of the last one (Green something), but it was definitely the weakest of the bunch--way too many plot holes and unresolved (or weakly resolved) story lines, particularly with Lela and the shock collar thing.
I think it just goes to show that Futurama works best in a half-hour format--one or two episodes can be off, and they can just pick it up the next week and hit it out of the park again.
In any case, I for one am thrilled that they're bringing it back and will have my DVR primed and ready.

26?? Nice. This is great news.
The movies were cool, but not crazy exciting.

I always loved this show. Got most of the episodes on DVD through the years as gifts.

Be interesting to see if they continue from the ending of the last movie, where they were on the run.

KotH has always been great too, though--too bad we can't just keep them both (although I understand if Mike Judge is tired of the show after so many years).

If you've seen The Goode Family on ABC, you'd know he wouldnt be. It's basically the same thing. I hate King of the Hill, though, dont want that resurrected.
One thing that bothers me about the continuation of Futurama, the "series finale" had such a sweet ending, that they COMPLETELY IGNORED in the subsequent movies. Really annoyed me. And I dont see anything different from the series resurrection. I'm still looking forward to it, though.

Oops, that's not what I meant.
I'm actually very disappointed that KotH is going away. So one show may be leaving, but we are getting another gem back.

Sweet zombie jesus, that's good news! I wasn't blown away by the 4th direct-to-video movie but the other three were fairly strong. Hopefully, the show will return to standalone episodes instead. Either way, this announcement has made my morning.

I agree with the assessment that the DVD movies decreased in quality with each subsequent release; and also concur that this was probably a direct result of them (individually) having been dragged on for more than the length of a standard episode.
...now that I've gotten that out of the way, Woo Hoo! One of the best animated comedies (if not THE best) is back, baby!
One of the best aspects of this? Another occasion to make Fox look foolish for bungling a successful show to death!

Man, I've been so excited all day after I read this. I agree with the sentiment that the videos weren't as good as the series, but that is a pretty high standard live up to. I guess Fox is cursed by their own hubris.
