MTV's Multiplayer blog is reporting (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/06/08/green-day-rock-band-confirmed-by-band/) that band Green Day is working with Harmonix on a Green Day RockBand title.
While there’s no official word (trust me, they’re in the same building as me, I’d know), Billy Joe, the lead singer of Green Day, broke the news on Kevin and Bean’s Breakfast radio show on KROQ 106.7 FM, that they’re collaborating for a “Rock Band” game.
It would certainly explain the lack of playable Green Day songs in either “Rock Band” or “Guitar Hero.”
Not a good sign. I would hate to see RockBand become the new Guitar Hero where they are releasing four new titles a year.

Blech. Not really a Green Day fan, but I'd rather see more optional track packs than completely new titles.

Thats cool and all, I would never buy it, but if they want to make it, no skin off my nose.

Not a full game. A track pack or album download at most.
What the world really needs is Led Zep: Rock Band! Although it will probably never happen.

Its there money if they want to spend it, if people want to buy it, well......whatever blows their hair back, personally I would rather hit the casino and play some cards with the cash.

I hope to god he got it wrong somehow, like they are just releasing a bunch of Green Day music on Rock Band as DLC.
Green Day aren't good enough to warrant their own title, especially not a Rock Band one.

If this do this like AC/DC, then it's awesome. If they do it like Aerosmith, this will suck.

All I'm saying is, is that green day got a truck load of cash because downloads are killing their live like a rock star life styles and sequel machine developers who found a niche are whoring instead of expanding upon it. I mean the way this is working, the first developer to utilize a read out of a song's notes and percussions similar to audiosurf and apply it to the guitar hero formula making it go on the fly on any song will put these people out of business and then they're going to go back to crying about how they aren't making their $$$ anymore due to lack of expanding on what was a great idea.

This seems true but unlikely, a hand painted dungeon is always better than a randomly generated one.
Stretched analogies aside, I wasnt a big Green Day fan until I saw them live years ago in D.C. @ RFK. They were the final act and the crowd was pulling up the big tiles from the floor and crowd surfing on top of them to the front of the stage. The last song was played in electric guitar to the tune of "I want to be an anarchist" and they threw all their instruments in a pile and burned them on stage. Fucking awesome. Count me in.

Lame.
And doubly lame because the Adsense to the left right now is a "Who's hotter--Green Day or Jonas Bros?" banner. Twice the fail.

Rock Band won't become the next Guitar Hero because Harmonix can't crank out more than one console game a year.
Nonetheless, I hope they don't do a Green Day version...if it's a contractual deal like AC/DC and it's just a cheap expansion pack, fine. But the Beatles should be an exceptional case (unless they get Zeppelin -- then go nuts!)

As a track-pack or full album DLC, i'm totally there.
As a stand-alone game incompatible with the rest of RB, ala Beatles, I'm avoiding it.
Guitar-hero has created a whole new genre, and the money is simply pouring in.
The actual game-development of these titles seem to not be that expensive if you look at the content created. Compare "Guitar Hero" to "FEAR2" in regards to models/textures/scripting/shaders etc. and it just seems alot less work to do - and they sell alot more.
Of course they are gonna flood the market - there is so much potential cash to harvest!

Outside of game development, what are the licensing fees associated when comparing "Guitar Hero" to "Fear2" going to look like? I understand these games make money, but flooding will only lead to these franchises causing massive financial problems when enough is enough and the games start bombing at retail.

I hope it's just a track pack. Green Day certainly isn't worthy of even the consideration of their own full game.

If it's DLC, I'll probably pick up a few tracks.
If it's an annoying AC/DC-esque disc, I'll pass.
If it's a Beatles-style stand-alone game, I'm going to stop buying DLC altogether.
I have to assume Harmonix isn't so retarded as to fragment the platform for Green Day. But fuck if that wouldn't be the nail in the coffin.
