View Full Version : Halo 3 ODST - No Dual Wielding or Equipment
Thought the Halo fans would be interested to see these tidbits from Destructoid regarding the changes in gameplay you can expect from Halo 3: ODST
I had a meeting with Bungie yesterday where they were showing off Halo ODST's campaign and Firefight gametype. While Paul Bertone (Bungie's Design Director) was running through the campaign, I noticed that the weapon pick up icons weren't showing the dual wielding options.
Turns out you won't be able to dual wield in Halo ODST. It makes sense why, as you're playing as a regular soldier and it's not easy to dual wield oversized weapons like the SPARTANs can. The ODST soldier also loses the ability to make use of Equipment items (Bubble Shield, Energy Drainer, etc). You'll still see Equipment items as the Brutes can use them.
More here. (http://www.destructoid.com/e3-09-no-dual-wielding-or-equipment-usage-in-halo-odst-135048.phtml)
Does this make it a bit more generic than other Halo games?

I like the concept. Masterchief is one badass dude, but without his armor and augmentations he would be an ODST Helljumper. It's amazing that Brutes and Elites are actually quite lethal, and hopefully it will show just how difficult the covenant really is. Having to work as a squad to take down one of them is no small feat.

Eh, I don't really like dual wielding guns, seems a bit goofy.

Most of the Halo hardcore will like this since the MLG also does not use equipment and its considered kind of noobish. This along with the return of the Halo1 pistol should have even the Halo purists excited.

Theres like a 25 minute interview/play through of ODST somewhere, on IGN I think. It looks really cool.
And regardless, I don't duel wield in Halo 3 that much anyway. Got quite a bit a nerf from Halo 2 -> 3.

The more I hear about this game the more excited I get (after basically hating Halo 2 and 3). Dual Wielding was one of the aspects I really DIDN'T like about Halo2 or 3.
My brother and I had a really itneresting coversation about why Halo 2 and 3 basically turned toward sucking and how this game seems like it might have the ability to turn the franchise around.

I haven't really put much effort into reading about ODST yet but I assume that since you're not a Spartan, there's no personal shield that recharges?

All I see is since you're not a Spartan (aka hero) this is just a generic PPS riding the coattails of the Halo Franchise.

Sounds like ODST is turning out to be how Halo 2 should have been.
Halo 1 fans should remain wary. But if I see a single 3-shot drop, im in.

Non-dual wielding doesn't really bother me and I never used the equipment anyway.

Dual wielding isn't much good for anything since you can't throw grenades while you are dual wielding.

?????
I guess anything is good to make a negative post about Halo.

Well it wasn't negative at all. It would suggest that I believe the current list Halo games have plenty of attributes that stop them being generic. I was merely posing the question as to whether or not the removal of two of these attributes would have a significant impact.
People see hate everywhere these days.

More to the point, is that even possible?

Yeah Duel wielding never did a whole lot, couldn't throw grenades. Made it a bit worthless.

this game looks like shit, im not impressed at all. its like they took a step back in game mechanics to slow the game down. Healthpacks/stations? really? we are going back to those now?
