Getting a Heavenly Sword/Uncharted/God of War vibe here.
Initial signs pointing to WIN.

The voice cast in phenomenal. Patrick Stewart, Robert Carlyle, and Jason Isaacs.
HOLY SHIT.

That last shot has me sold. The main character has what appears to be a chain whip stuck in that giant's eye.
The shitty PS2 CV with the portals and whatnot killed the idea of 3D Castlevania for me, I think it was mostly from the horrible storyline mixed with terrible vooice acting rather than the bad gameplay. This would have to be really good, and it probably wouldn't be able to feel like a 2D CV to be good in 3D.

Oh come on, to say the PS2 versions were "shitty" is taking it a little far. No, they wern't the best games ever, but they were fun. Lament of Innocence being the better of the two.

Compared to the shitty 3D N64 Castlevania entries, the PS2 entries were godsends.

I've always thought the series peaked at SOTN. To me, that was one of the best games ever made. That said, I like them taking this direction. If they could add some REAL RPG elements to this, I'd go so far as to say I'd be very excited for it.

I'd be interested in what you would call "real rpg elements". Between Castlevania 2 and Castlevania symphony of the night, they pretty much covered all the RPG conventions you can think of without being a straight up Dragonquest ripoff JRPG.
I'm just so psyched for this game. I really dislike Hideo Kojima, but the fact that the game has eliminated the homosexual overtones and the bad voice acting that has basically ruined the franchise for 10 years makes me extremely excited for it.

I suppose I could revise my statement; I would like to see common JRPG elements added and not just a weapon here and a potion there. I could envision a game like this being open-world, with a lot of different missions ala Oblivion or Fallout yet still retain the awesome DMC-type gameplay for fighting. I'd like something like that.

They started adding in sidequests with Aria of Sorrow.
Order of Ecclesia had different locations and a world map and everything...
Portrait of Ruin had a multi-person group. (Two seperate teams of them!)
They had summoning spells way back with Circle of the Moon.
Hell, even Symphony of the Night had item set bonuses and rare drops out the wazoo.
I can't imagine anything that could make Castlevania more jRPG-like unless they decided to make it turn based or top-down. Wait a second, they did that with castlevania 2!
I'm not a fan of the 2D games, I just don't click with them and hate the save system.
However these screens are awesome, I declare myself excited.
