View Full Version : Auto Assault NDA Lifted
Posted by Pann on the official forums (http://boards.autoassault.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=50519&Main=50519#Post50519):
The Auto Assault team is pleased to announce that our Non-Disclosure Agreement has now been lifted, giving beta community members an opportunity to publicly share their opinions about the game, not only through posts on our public message board and your favorite forums across the internet, but also with screenshots and player-made videos. Watch for their comments and see what all the excitement is about, then head over to MMORPG.com to see how you can participate in our big beta weekend event starting Friday, January 13.
As a beta tester since the beginning of the beta I can say that my first thought I had was... well on second thought I rather not say. I Will only hint that I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

That's a shame. I was hoping someone would, someday, make an Autoduel-style MMORPG worth playing. It sounds like this isn't it, though?

I'd heard they put a pretty heavy revamp in later on, does it still suck? I was sort of looking forward to this one.

This one has looked like it was going to be awful for a while now, sad to see that this was the case.
I however know very little about this game. Could someone give a rundown of the gameplay and where they went wrong?
Well they took 6 months to revamp, and all they had time for was to do the starter section. And yes it still sucks. There is 0 incentive to play with other people, I think maybe 10% of my time online was in a convoy, and even then I was alone. There is no death penalty, which mean you just die over and over again (it can happen rather fast), with no real thrill.
The physics feel weird, and like you are driving an RC car. The combat takes almost no skill. Even with the revamp, now you just need to chase them a little more but that is about it. It is no twisted metal.
I was generally disappointed with the "revamp" which added to my general disappointment from the game. I was really waiting for it and really excited, but after a few play sessions I realized it won't lift off, not in my opinion. Too many of the broken ideas are to well embedded into the gameplay to change. The market for it will be very small, and if you ask me the game got delayed because NCSoft made them delay it.
The dev team already lost quite a few members because they got fired or left. I can never get myself to play much anymore, it is just not interesting. (You know how when there are limited play times people rush to play.)
Pity.
By the way, they have a weekend even, if you look at the link I posted. Of course their minimum requirements are ridiculously high, so donno how many people can play. I won't speculate why they do the event, but I can only guess.
I really wanted the game to make it, but I just don't think it will. Something like Full Auto in a persistent world can be awesome. But AA has the same problem EnB had (in the forums a lot of people mention the similarities... which might be a bad sign actually), it doesn't find a niche for itself. It is between a car game, an RPG, and an MMO, and it doesn't decide.

It's amazing that this company can turn out a winner like Guild Wars, and then put this crap out. This is another game I beta tested and it was crap, although more fun than D&D online. It started when testing began, you could only test 3 times a week for a few hours, the servers were never once left on for a weekend. The control was combersome and the combat was not fun.
Graphics were ok, but nothing to get too excited about. Once agian another exciting idea and horrible execution.
Give me Inerstate 76-82 online, that would be awsome.

Actually I hated Interstate '76 (or whatever the title was). The setup was cool but gameplay was not fun. Car combat just doesn't seem to work for me.

Guildwars and AutoAssault are made by different developers, just both are published by NcSoft. Two different teams, two different games, potentially two different outcomes :)

Heh, I stopped working on this beta long ago. I don't foresee a future for this game.

There was an old PC game called Deathrace (I think), where you had a car loaded up with weapons and you raced other computer racers with several different weapon combinations. I can remember playing the heck out of that. It was fun. This game was not fun. My experience with it led me to say that it wasn't ready to be a true competitor with the Big Name Games.

I will agree on the controls and combat sucking. But I hate the limited time argument. It is bs, because if you tested other game that early you would know every game start out this way. Limited testing times, no weekend, and only a few hours per day. It is because of support, and because they need to get more people online at the same time out of a small pool of beta testers. AA are not the first and certainly not the last to do it.
The servers were left a few weekends on with no support, but general lack of interest (either player or dev wise, shrug) terminated that. The beta times are fine, but the game still sucks.
if you ask me they do the weekend event because they are just not able to get enough people during the testing times, to really stress test.

Played in the Beta for a bit. I am frankly shocked they THINK they can get a monthly fee for the game. I would not surprsed if after Release it goes the way of the Dodo. ;)

The combat was boring. It seemed like it could be cool, but the driving engine made cars feel like crap. The controls and UI were cumbersome, and the whole thing just sucked.

I can sum it up this way: CoH textures, without the physics; dreadfully boring. Your granny as Mad Max.

I played the Beta about 4 months ago. I thought it was passable, and had fun with the crafting part of the game. The combat wasn't challenging, but it seemed more like an excuse for resource gathering, and the missions seemed more like they were just there to enable you to do more crafting.
I was under the impression that the graphics have improved a lot in the last 4 months. I would definitely tell anyone here to give the free beta a shot and see if you like the game. There's not much else like it, at the moment.
I have yet to see a good Car Wars type game converted well to an action game. I think it could be done, but it would end up very Battlefield-ish.

Screw that, how about a Carmageddon MMO. Now that would be fun! I loved those games, back in the day.

The new changes improves the quality of the game 1000 fold, however, it is still not one I am going to buy.

That would be sweet. I played Carmageddon every day my junior year of high school in my Visual Basic class.
