GameDaily (http://xbox360.gamedaily.com/game/features/game.asp?gameid=2646&id=858&t=feature&rp=5519) is reporting that the DOA4 online community has organized some tournaments already.

Many of the online DOA4 tournaments will be organized by DOACentral.com (http://www.doacentral.com) and will help to eliminate not only the scrub hunters, but also the players who intentionally lag the game and pick a specific stage and character that will greatly benefit from the lag. If any player intentionally lags in one of the DOA Central online tournaments, they will be immediately disqualified.

The following tournaments are played for the coming months. Head over to DOACentral.com (http://www.doacentral.com) and check out the Tournament Announcements and Online Tournament Announcements forums for specific information about each tournament, and information on how to participate.
I believe I fall into the "lesser quality" opponent category.

How can they have a tournament when players are loosing their saves and unlocks when they turn on the game? (see previous news item)

The save file glitch is actually pretty rare. I've only heard of it happening to one other person in all the online games I've been in, and hell, check my gamertag, I've got a lot of gametime/games played online.

I fall into the "Moderate quality" category. I still need to get better at fighting the *@#*!* Hayabusa everyone plays and spams the ninpo over and over.

I was really excited about DOA4, but having not played the other games in the series, I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say, I suck at it. I've never been a hardcore fighting game player -- pressing seemingly random buttons in a specific sequence is just something I cant do.

Even against the computer, my success seems completely random. The computer will beat me in 5 seconds, and then I will get a perfect :P

Same. >< It looks nice, and plays smoothly though. As frustrating as the final boss can be with some characters, I still enjoy it. I don't regret the purchase at all.
