View Full Version : Dead Rising Interview
WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com) has posted an interview (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=30974&mode=thread&order=0) with Capcom publishing coordinator Robert Hamiter as he shows off a demo of Dead Rising.
RH: So what they try to do in this game is, in a nutshell, to throw you into this shopping mall. It is a very big sandbox for you to do whatever you want to do. If you want to go to a Sporting Goods shop, get a golf club, and fight some zombies, you can do that! You can go into a hardware store, which I’m about to do right now, and grab items out of there to take out zombies as well!
Sounds like an arcade-style approach to survival horror. Sign me up!

I played this game at TGS, it was far and away the best 360 game they were showing. It could be a system seller. It looks so amazing, and the mall just feels real. Gameplay is truly sandbox. In my session I went to a supermarket, where I was killing zombies with a Scythe I had grabbed at a hardware store. I climbed up on a row of freezers where ther was a guy holding the zombies off with an assault rifle. I beat him to death with a baseball bat, took his gun and just sat on top of the freezers, blowing zombies heads off with a high powered rifle. When I got bored of that, I jumped down and ran through the store with the gun on full auto until it ran out of ammo. Great fun.

Can't wait. Wish they'd let you customize your character though. That lead character looks retarded. . . maybe that's how the Japanese view us Americans.

Joystiq had a hands on (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/06/ces-hands-on-with-dead-rising/) from CES with this and they weren't very impressed. :( I'm really looking forward to this so hopefully there will be some big improvements before release.

State of Emergency with zombies? Since when did sandbox become a good thing? It sounds like the kind of game you get bored of in fifteen minutes, which is cool, I'll be able to buy this for fifteen bucks a month after its release.

think arcadey survival hoorror is fun, well LOTD WHILE SOMEWHAT DECENT SUCKED DONKEY BALLS.
This game is going to be awesome. Atleast the concept of it is. And I love the new blood effect, looks GREAT!
There are some really great 360 games coming. I might actually pick this system up come March. (Birthday)

Youch. . . Well, they did only get to play one level, but from the picture they are painting it seems like fighting will be fairly mindless button-mashing.
The slowdown, poor UI, and poor graphics are all things that usually do get improved upon before a finished build of a game ships, so I'm not as worried about that.
Thanks for the link though. I was definitely going to wait for a review before purchasing this, but now I'm even a bit more wary.
In theory, this "should be" cool, but it's something that could easily go horribly wrong. I think "State of Emergency with Zombies" is probably a good assesment, from what I've seen. Good for a 15-minute laugh, but then it gets old, real-quick!
They better have more than a sandbox in their pocket. They better have a plot, achievements, progression and "moments" to keep this one from sitting right next to Ridge Racer 6 on the store shelves.

it looks good to me, and every now and then a game like this is worth buying. if the action and freedom to perform those actions are well executed then it will be a buy for me. i think it will be more like dynasty warriors in the sense of massive enemies and wild action. i like that series, but one game is enough for me. this will be the one for me on 360.

Reckon there's any chance of multiplayer? Adventure beat-em-up's are always more fun with friends.
Seeing as it's capcom, and knowing how much they love their zombies, hopefully this will turn out to be a good 'un once play testing gets under-way.
