Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has the scoop (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=2969) on a new Lord of the Rings RPG that's in the works.

The 3D Realms web site has started a new Q&A series with former members of their shareware team Apogee with a chat with Jim Norwood (http://www.3drealms.com/news/2006/01/the_apogee_legacy_1_jim_norwoo.html#more) who designed 1993's BioMenace and also worked on 1997's Shadow Warrior. In the interview, Norwood reveals that he is working at Electronic Arts on a previously unannounced RPG titled Lord of the Rings: The White Council. No other details of the game have been announced.
Huh. If they are truly going after the LOTR universe, why not tap into the stories told in The Silmarillion?

It is and I apologize because it's been a number of years since I read it but I don't think it really gave enough information regarding the future of Middle-Earth. Just the history of the First, Second and Third age. But the third age information was limited to the events that leading up to LOTR and a smidge afterwards.

If anyone can correct or elaborate on this, please do.

The Silmarillion was incredibly dry and uncharismatic, pretty much the opposite of a hobbit adventure.

...I'll take it a step further, and say that the game will be set in a convention hall. Boothes will take the place of normal RTS buildings.

I seem to recall EA's last LotR RPG being an exceedingly stale Final Fantasy X rip-off. I'm not getting my hopes up about this one.

Wasn't there a kind of adventure/RPG Fellowship game a few years ago? I remember playing the first level (rental) and becomming extremely frustrated with how quickly the ring wraiths were able to catch you... At least I think that was the first level. I remember sneaking around trying to avoid them and they would just randomly catch you, which made you start over.

Ummmm... anyway, it was terrible.

In the last EGM's rumor section they mentioned this game as a MMORPG for X360 and PS3.

Thanks for the link to Jim Norwood Everlost! I found out 3Drealms released the old sidescroller Bio Menace as freeware last month. *sigh* I loved that game...

True, it wasn't an RPG though. The game was horrible, and from what I recall it wasn't based on the movies at all, not even published by EA. It was completely different from the 2nd and 3rd games.

I agree totally, something base in the First age around the Silmarillion would be AWESOME.
