Take 2 announced that it has acquired one of the biggest independent developers Irrational Games. Known for such titles as SWAT 4, Tribes Vengeance and Freedom Force, Irrational is currently working on Bioshock for Take Two, scheduled for PC and nextgen consoles, but also SWAT 4 expansion pack for Vivendi.

Hopefully that will mean that we don't have worry that Looking Glass will go broke again....

Great news for Take Two, that's for sure. And since I enjoy them far more than Electronic Arts, the other big megacorp in the industry, I think this is a good move.

I wonder if Irrational found that being independent wasn't such a great thing after all...

Hmm. I wonder what this does to the chances of a third Freedom Force game every coming out.

Given how popular the other two have been; I believe so. While they did not sell all that well, Take Two is a company that actually respects developers and allows them to create games that they want to. BioShock, and Max Payne are great examples as they may be off key with the base gaming population, they still have a huge mass of fan within the greater gaming culture. Freedom Force is the same way.

Probably a lot greater odds than before. At least now they have actual money pushing things along rather than having to find their own investors and living solely off of the profits from previous games.

My understanding is that Bioshock is a PC only, and does not include a console release. I could be wrong.

Haven't been many details about Bioshock, not recently. Only seen a couple of screens, don't recall any specific platform details. Their forum was down for a bit, it's back up: but mostly quiet.

As long as they don't pull a Midway and close Irrational's Aussie studio in six months, this is a good thing.
