Jeux-France (http://www.jeux-france.com/news13873_age-of-empires-s-expose-sur-ds.html) has a bunch of screenshots up of the Nintendo DS version of Age of Empires.
Looks pretty good. I like what they did with the graphics. Hopefully this does well, the DS is made for a solid RTS.
Update: I've been informed that this is turn-based now...but it doesn't change the fact the DS is made for a solid RTS.

Just a little nit pick (unless I'm wrong), but isn't the DS Age of Empires turn-based?

Is it just me, or does it kind of look like Advance Wars a tiny bit? I think I'm just crazy. Looks fun though!
UGh. They bastardized AOE for the DS. It looks like crap. And it's turn based? Burn them!

Turn based could turn out to be really cool. I'm interested in giving this a shot over Wi-Fi. :D

I don't want to be a downer or anything (I'm pretty impressed by how this title has progressed) but don't get too hyped up about WiFi. Neither Nintendo's wifi connection site nor the Age of Empires DS site has any mention of WiFi connection, and most damning, the Age of Empires DS site does not feature the WiFi connection logo. It's likely that Jeaux-France got the local multiplayer mode confused with WiFi, which of course is synonymous for "Online" with the DS. If it really were online, I'd guess that Nintendo would be trumpeting it a bit more, as it would be only the fifth announced WiFi game for the DS, and the fourth released.
This doesn't really diminish my interest in the game. I'm a big AoE fan, and if this stacks up better than Battles of Prince of Persia or Shogun Empires I'll likely pick it up.

Regarding the WiFi, I'm 99.8% certain it's not a la the Nintendo WiFi Connection.
The same problem came up a few weeks back at kotaku.com with Bust-A-Move DS, where they reported it as a WiFi title, but it's not NiWiFi, just local.
The same problem also came up when I picked up the PSP on launch day and wanted to play WipEout online because it supported WiFi, but just ad-hoc.
I predict this problem (misuse of the term WiFi) growing, and it makes me sad.

Hopefully it'll be better then that Shogun DS thing. Now I think there's a clear and obvious question we're all overlooking...
Civ DS anyone?
Edit- Sorry if someone mentioned this but I just saw IGN DS's top story right now is an interview with the lead designer if anyone's interested.
If someone would just make a damn DS RTS with a solid online multiplayer, it would be a huge system seller and the first non-PC system to ever have a good RTS.
I really hope they don't dumb it down too. With the dpad+stylus combo you could do everything from setting waypoints to adding units to hotgroups.

After playing the DS for some time I don't think the stylus is suitable for RTS control. I like what I am seeing in the TBS arena, they should stay the course.
Make some original games and stick them on WiFi, that's what I say.

How so? Obviously the interface would have to be rather different than a PC RTS, but I don't see how the stylus rules out an RTS. Nintendo even managed to pull off an RTS with the GC controller. Such a game probably wouldn't play just like a PC RTS, but I think something with similar strategic depth and it's own flavor could be done.

Uhh yeah, and the N64 controller also "pulled off" a few RTS games, but that doesn't mean it was a horrible play experience.
The stylus =/= a mouse and it's going to be a huge deal trying to make a RTS that doesn't rely heavily on click and drag. You can't create most of the control functionality that most of us would take for granted for a regular mouse-driven RTS with the stylus. Mostly because the screen won't even register anything on the touchscreen until you actually...touch it. This differs from mouse-based RTS greatly, and even RTS found on consoles. The screen size also adds problems.
Face it, the system was made for TBS and someone just needs to strike gold with a good concept that uses WiFi.
