After a few weeks of slow to no releases, we actually have some games coming out this week. The star of the show is without a doubt Electroplankton for Nintendo DS. Also Terrence Malick's (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000517/) A New World hit's theaters. Unfortunately it stars Colin Farrell.

Holy crap, I'm so all over The Magnificent 7! Been waiting for that for long and weary. I remember watching it with my mum when I was a kid and realizing slowly that my mother had a crush on Yul Bryner.
And Glory Road looks like it may be a decent distraction from my studies!

Psh, everyone knows magnificent seven is just seven samurai made into a western. The best damn western ever, but still.
Oh and will someone tell me whether or not Wild Arms 4 is anygood? I really enjoyed the other 3, I would like to know whether this one is worth anything or not, or whether it has reached the same point suikoden did at 4.

Wild Arms 4 got hammered in OPM this month, but you can take that with a pinch of salt. GameRankings (http://www.gamerankings.com) currently has it averaging 80% (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/918840.asp).

I've been waiting a long time for the Megaman X Collection, now I just need stores to start getting Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on their pre-order lists so I can get it all paid for.

Hmmm....could he be talking about Daigasso aka Band Brothers aka Jam With the Band? Has that been picked up for US release? I've been playing Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan lately and it has reawakened my love of awesome music games. If only I had money for Guitar Hero. Well, I can always try to get further in master mode of Gitaroo Man.

Red Eye is a solid thiller. If you didn't see it in the theater, rent it or buy it.
4 out of 5 stars.

I've been waiting for Samurai Shodown V since 2004. They've been pushing back the release by one week every week since some time in November. I'll believe the release date when I see it in stores.

Aside from being an overrated actor and a thug to boot, what has the chap done to deserve such vitriol? :)

I've got Electroplankton imported from Japan.
It isn't a game, but a new way of touching music. It is difficult to explain. Rather than conquoring aspects of the 'game' you explore the title. I keep it handy for a play on the train ride home after particularly stressful days. It always leaves me with a smile on my face, feeling soothed.
The title really excells when you have many people in the room, playing together. The music overlaps and constantly changes, evolving with everyone adding a bit of themself to the jam session.
I would suggest that everyone give it a try, allow yourself time to explore the music and get into a zone. Not everyone will like it. There are no boss monsters, upgrades, difficulty levels, blood, guns, hookers or trick combos; but that's what I like about it.

I can't wait for my copy of Electroplankton to arrive. I'm fully aware that it's not a game, per se, so I'll probably just turn it on while I'm reading before I go to bed and let it soothe my soul as I drift off...
The fact it comes with ear-buds is nice too (so help me, it had better come with ear-buds).
Hoodwinked looks pretty funny, but I'm not rushing off to the theatre just yet.
And while I'm somewhat ticked about buying Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow last week and then finding out about the double pack, I'm sure I'll survive...
Can anyone clarify if FF:AC is coming out on DVD over here? I know it did in Japan but I thought I saw somewhere that it's now only coming out on UMD here. Which will make Spigot VERY VERY ANGRY!

Has anyone actually tried the MMX collection? I'm considering getting the cube version. IGN says the emulation is decent, but they don't actually compare it to the originals, so their definition of decent is highly suspect.

I will pick up the Castlevania double pack at some point. I've been wanting Aria and Harmony, but the high prices plus the preponderence of bootlegs on ebay has prevented me from getting them before.

Why would you be ticked? The double pack includes Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Disonnance. I'm pretty psyched because these are the 2 that I missed.

Considering it's not's out until Tuesday, that'd be a tad difficult.
I have, however, played the original Mega Man collection; people complained about a few emulation and control problems with that, none of which I ever encountered. I keep reading that the emulation is quite a bit better for the X collection...so I think it'll definitely be worth it. If it's improving on problems that I never actually ran into...then that's a good thing, I suppose.

Would it be appropriate to also post the PSP's UMD releases each week? That seems more game related than just DVDs?
January 10th-
Hustle and Flow
Mirror Mask
Stuart Little/2 Movie Pack
Underworld
Samurai Champloo, Volume 3 & 4
Sakura Wars: The Movie
Red Eye
Transporter 2
The Island

Personally, I have a lot of difficulty already finding the GAMES for the PSP on most sites since the games are mixed in with the movies.
In all honesty, UMD movies piss me off since another movie on the shelf means less space for games. The less focus the world puts on UMD movies, the better off we'll all be.

Lack of multiplayer? Try lack of singleplayer. It's not even a game.
..and it is good.

Yeah, I wish there was a way to save the music you create...or at least use WFC to upload somewhere.

I've saved some songs using a double-ended headphone cable and plugged it into the Libe In on my PC. You can record it to WAV, MP3 or OGG and put it in your MP3 player.

Mmm, Castlevania Double-pack, you shall be mine. I'll also probably pick up Wild Arms 4 eventually, when I see it for cheap. I've always been a sucker for this series. Combat and storyline are always somewhat mediocre, but damn if the dungeon/puzzle design isn't absolutely top-notch.

If you put...Aira of Sorrow(?) in the GBA slot on the DS then started a new game on the DS Castlevania you got a cool ring. I am wondering if this works with the double pack.

If you have Castlevania: AoS in your DS when you start a new game of Castlevania DS you get the Rare Ring to start out with. So, I have no idea. But I would hope so.

Doh! I thought it was Aria and Dawn of Sorrow.
Colour me not disappointed then! I might actually pick this up when I go get Electroplankton, assuming it ever gets to my local EB like they promised...

Don't count on it. As of yesterday my EB got a letter that the title was "web exclusive" and only those who had pre-ordered Electroplankton would be receiving copies.
So...yeah...picking it up is *not* happening. Unless Nintendo realizes the frothing demand there is for bio-luminescent-musical-lifeform-based interactive toys.

Well, my copy of Electroplankton has been on preorder for over a week, so I should be getting it. I know they're doing some wierd Web Exclusive thing for the release too...
I just want my copy to arrive so I can pick it up... I'm also VERY glad I wandered into EB last week and asked about it as I had no idea it was shipping so soon.
I did notice that the EBgames.com site had Electroplankton on the main page yesterday and you can now find no reference to it at all on the entire site. Sigh.
Edit: My copy just arrived at the EB down the road. Huzzah! Sadly, there were not funky blue ear-buds, but they are giving me some extras from the Micro that were lying around. I love being a regular customer.

Picked up my copy yesterday. Fiddled around with it for a bit last night. It's... interesting.
I really like the plankton with the plant (Hewtones, I believe it's called). I've had some really nice music occur with that one. The manual is one of the beefiest manuals I've ever seen with a Nintendo game (clocks in at around 60 pages) and it's got quite the sense of style.
It most definately is not a game, so don't think of it as such. It's a toy that happens to be run on a game system. It actually makes me think of the little musical gew-gaws my son plays with. I love listening to it with headphones though. It sounds awesome.

Cool, that was one of the reasons I didn't import it. I heard about the manual, and my Japanese is nonexistent (or imaginary).

I understand that not everything has to revolve around achieving victory in a game. I've noticed in several reviews the reviewer says something about the lack of goals, which seems to be missing the point.

Nice. My copy showed up today (too cheap to pay for speedy shipping) and it hypnotized me for about an hour. I'm kind of scared of it now. Sounds good through my pretty good headphones. This is the kind of 'game' that demonstrates why game journalism needs to grow up.
