In a recent job posting (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/jobs_display.php?job_id=8718) on GamaSutra (http://www.gamasutra.com) for an engine programmer, Shiny mentions that they are working on a PSP game that may be related to some of their older games:
Shiny Entertainment is seeking talented PSP Programmers for an as-yet unannounced title that harkens back to the earliest days of Shiny's game development history. If you've got experience in creating top-notch entertainment for the handheld market, or if you're looking for a fun, exciting challenge that's different from the same-old, same-old, we should talk. Shiny Entertainment is located right on the water in Newport Beach, Calif.
The job posting also talks about converting existing code to a new platform and expanding features, so we might be looking at a port of an old game with more modern functions (Thanks to GameFront (http://www.gamefront.de)).
Here's hoping it's MDK...

MDK would be crazy cool. It seems that it's the only series that Shiny was able to get to work the way it's supposed to. Sacrifice 2 would be nice, but since action games sell more on the consoles than RTS's (hybrid though Sacrifice may be), I'd put my money on MDK.
Unless they're doing Messiah 2... NOOOOOOoooooooo

Heh, my first thought before I got down to your statement was "yeah, it's going to be MDK". Or some form of a sequel, or with added content.

Its probably the matrix PON

It couldn't really be anything other than MDK, could it? It's CERTAINLY not going to be Earthworm Jim, and Sacrifice is their only other game besides Messiah, and both those PC games aren't really PSP compatible are they?
I suppose it could be Wild 9's.
Actually, Wild 9's is a pretty good bet...

That's not funny. That's...wow...that's "apocalypse" not funny.
I kind of dug Wild 9, though I have no idea how popular it was.

Curious... why not?
That was my first guess, it's far more suited for a handheld than MDK is. And it does "harken back to the earliest days of Shiny."

Wild 9 was awesome, MDK was better though. Any new form of MDK would make me extremely happy.

MDK... MDK... everyone wants it.

They never owned the rights to EWJ. Interplay did, and I have no clue who owns it today. If Shiny did buy the rights im sure I would have heard about it.
MDK is only cool if you play as Kurt. I think people think too much of the series, though I will admit it has one of the best worlds in gaming.

I totally disagree, the mix up in 2 was refreshing and being able to play as the other characters was just awesome.

I know im in the minority openion on this, but I just think it's a matter of time better spent. I love Shiny to death but the one and only huge problem they have is taking so damn long to put a game out. I think if they would just focus on one char it would end up being a better game.

It wasnt a joke O_O....the matrix games are the biggest money makers for the company....hence its most likely.

What?! Dave created Earthworm Jim... on Shiny.com Earthworm Jim is listed as one of their games.
Oh, by the way, I think it's gonna be Earthworm Jim on PSP ;)

Wrong!
Dave did not create him, Doug Tenapel did, this guy:

Also, there is a huge difference in owning a game and making it.
Welcome to EA, you are off to a good start.

Reasons I think it's not Earthworm Jim: The game has been remade about 100 times between Snes Sega CD Saturn and Playstation. There is literally nothing else that could be done to the game.
Reasons I think it's not MDK: MDK 2 is, like, the five year old sequel to a ten year old game. There's no reason they would remake MDK2, because the majority of their audiance would have no idea MDK 1 even existed. I would think they might remake MDK 1, but that game is so old it would require an almost COMPLETE overhaul to not be an embarrassment on the PSP. That is a possibillity though.
Reaons I think it's Wild 9's: Wild 9's got little exposure when it was new despite it being a good idea with good charachters. Also, Wild 9 was the shiny game most hindered by it's console limitations. Plus, I know for a fact that the game turned out almost noting like it's original design due to things such as hardware limitations.
Other stuff: I don't think Interplay owned Earthworm Jim. I think they published it. I know for a fact the other games are published by Playmated Interactive Intertainment. Lord knows if that company even exist anymore.
Doug Tennapel is a rennaisance man if ever there was one. Watch Sockbaby on www.channel101.com and then look at his 2d art and claymation on his own site.
MDK would be awesome. Never heard of Wild 9.
Wild 9 turned out different from what it was intended to be mainly because someone who worked for the publisher had a huge influence on the game. Dave Perry has bitched manny a time of some guy coming over to the office when they were still in Laguna and basicly deciding what stayed and what went.

I stand corrected. Dave Perry behaved like he created it... :D Anyways, It is still listed among the games on Shiny.com, so...
and I found this -> Earthworm Jim and all related characters © 1993-2002 Shiny Entertainment, Inc

I'm simply shocked that a GAME is coming to the PSP and not a movie, new set of wallpapers or downloadable video from some media source trying to make some hype noise.
Surely, some good games are welcome!
Please don't make it another shitty port with craptacular controls. Ugh.
Ooo... let's revive some DEAD FRANCHISES that barely had any exposure outside of the hardcore gaming masses (of which are really only 15% of the mass market game buying public).
Anyone think they may be doing a NEW franchise?!? It's possible. Stranger things have happen. Maybe they're doing something that's going to be on a TON of platforms, but they have no way to port it to the PSP?
Either way, who cares... Shiny has lost their "shine" and hasn't really made a good game since... MDK (and even that got tedious, after a while).

What would be wrong with reviving something like Messiah? That is honestly one of my favorite games of all time, and I still wish it saw light on the Dreamcast.....

I just remember Messiah as being one of those games that I was rather excited for which turned out to be much less that I'd hoped. Maybe now, with my once-l33t, now-obsol33t computer able to power Messiah the way it was meant to be (with a screaming 1.6 GHz of P4 power!) I might enjoy it. Hmm... now you've got me thinking crazy thoughts!
