We heard just a little while ago that the ESRB had rated a few games for release (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85610) on the PlayStation Network and one of those titles was Resident Evil: Director's Cut. Looks like Capcom (http://www.capcom-unity.com/mattd/blog/2009/05/22/resident_evil_directors_cut_ps1__coming_to_psn_may _28) has confirmed straight up that it will be coming to the PSN on May 28th for $9.99.
First up for information - Capcom recently announced that it was going to be making some of our original PlayStation 1 titles available for download on PSN. First on that list happens to be the original Resident Evil: Director's Cut, which is going to be available on May 28 for the price of $9.99. This is pretty awesome news, because it is an easy way to experience the introduction of the franchise if you missed out when it came out originally. This is the game that hooked me on this franchise; I still have very fond memories playing this all night with a friend after renting, and dying repeatedly on the first zombie encounter while trying to figure out why playing as Chris Redfield was so effing hard. Scenes come across as super cheesy by today's standards, but for the hardcore, these are things that make the game pretty endearing. It's definitely a classic to say the least.
How much do PS1 games usually run on the PSN? $9.99 seems a tad high for a 13 year old game.

Will PS3's without BC upconvert this? Or does that matter at all with downloaded games? I'm guessing it doesn't matter.
I agree that $10 is a lot for a PS1 title, even a great one.

PS1 games are fully supported by the PS3 and are all upconverted to 1080p (if you can support it of course).

Unless I am mistaken, Symphony of the Night was 'bargin' priced at 14.99.
It is nice that you can also copy some the PS1 games to your PSP and play them on the go. SotN being one of them!

SotN is $9.99 just like on xbla. Almost all other PS1 games are $5.99. And $10 isn't so much for a full PS1 game compared to the crappy flash-based games on xbla that go for $10+

Fact.
10 seems to be the price for the highly popular titles while everything else is 6. If FF7 comes out 10 is a steal.
Resident Evil 2 I would gladly pay 10 for, although I already have RE1, and RE1 directors cut, and RE2, and 3 on PS1, I would still buy 2 again just so I can rock it on my PSP.
Also, anything you download on PSN will play on your PS3 except for PSP only titles.

Flash-based eh?
Oh the internet...
Anyway, this reminds me that I have the Gamecube remake here and never actually played it.
I guess I'll spend that $10 on something else.

Why you so poor? 10 bucks is nothing. If you're scoffing at that, you shouldn't be in the video game hobby.

I think you all are missing the point. It's not that 10 dollars seems to be a lot of money....it's the fact that such an old game is costing ten dollars.
Besides, the director's cut was crappy compared to the actual original game....it provided support for the analog stick for the first time while making the controls far worse.
So in my opinion, yes, 10 is too much for the crappy director's cut. I would happily pay 10 dollars for the original RE, but I will continue to love my used copy of RE I paid six bucks for just over five years ago.

What the hell does age of the game have to do with the cost? This is RESIDENT EVIL were talkin about here, not some third rate game made from Electronic Arts. If anything, Capcom should charge $29.99 for this amazing classic.
And crappy because it offers analog controls? You're insane man.
Sorry YOU FAIL. You are just damn cheap.
TEN DOLLARS....you friggin cheap a**.

Modeps, that includes you man...you cheap sob.
I would guess you're way of thinking (like many) has evolved from illegally downloading games over the past years and now think that 'old' games should be basically free.
Otherwise, why sweat over a measly $9.99????
Sorry man, the truth be told. Unfortunate to see this, especially from a mod.

For me, the reason I would get this is for software upscaling. I have a PS2 with BC and the original RE: Director's Cut. I've beaten the game and gotten every ending. It was a great game, but I beat it.
For someone who has not played the game at all, I think $10 is worth it unless they have a stack of modern titles with great gameplay (and great graphics) they've yet to play through.

I dont think Modeps has a PS3 guys, so thats something on its own.
I personally think 10 is cheap for a game like RE compared to the majority of stuff on both Live and PSN that are 10 bucks and offer half the gameplay if even that. Regardless of when it was released.

You're basing a your guesses about my entire thoughts on pricing, based on what exactly? A simple question as to standard pricing for PS1 games on the PlayStation Network? Good call there.

I do have a PS3, which is used primarily for DVD/Blu-Ray watching. I have not spent a ton of time browsing the PSN Store, mostly because I did not care for it's layout.
Your point about comparison pricing is sound and I agree that Resident Evil 1 was a very cool game, probably worth $10... specially vs all the crap that is pumped out on Live.
Way to bring out the pitchforks everyone. GG.

Yeah, pay 10$, DL it, play for 20 mins....eh nevermind, and never touch it again. I would spend my 10$ on something else but i wasnt going to spend that 10 on it in the first place so that really doesnt make sense.
God videos games are suck.
