The first weekend of the New Year! I hope everyone is safe and well. Though I have finally killed the flu, I have some challenges this week as I travel to Fantasy Land, Tommorow Land, and Adventure Land. I am sure I am going to be wracking up a great high scores in family points (especially since I deliberately did not load up any games on my wife's laptop). These points will be cashed in next week as I settle down to some Gothic 2 Gold, Spellforce Plat, and some Wow and CoH. What are you going to be playing and doing this weekend?

I was just about to buy this game in the next few weeks too. Think I'll pass now.
I'll probably be playing some DQ8, Advance Wars, and DBZ: Boudokai Tenkaichi (having a suprisingly good time with this one). Although, I may not be playing much of anything if Dan Simmons' Hyperion takes over my life. From what Kel's says, it just might. Now I can't wait to leave work and head to the bookstore!

Is it me or does it seem like there is a queue on ALL the servers now?! I've tried about 15 of them and even see on the list there are no Low pop servers at night. Hell, even the servers that are just a week old have Full queues. Maybe they lowered the # of players allowed on at a time?

Imagine an RPG game on two disks where both of them have the same scenery, maps, textures, cities etc.
IT'S THE SAME DISC 1 SHIT ON DISC 2, only the dialogues have changed.
This isn't even backtracking, this is the biggest slap in my RPG playing history. Same dungeons, same towns, same everything - only new quests: "Bring me a red stone instead of a yellow stick!"
Well fuck you, I'm finished with Baten Kaitos.

I'll also be playing a lot of Advance Wars regardless.

You'll enjoy Kameo, it will make you glad you own a 360 for the 8 or so hours it lasts. But after that, you are sort of on you own for justification. Hopefully Oblivion will come out sooner rather than later and revive my interest. I have found everything outside of kameo to be pretty uninspiring. Call of Duty is incredibly repetitive and gets pretty boring. Perfect Dark Zero is just damn annoying trial and error memorization gameplay. Despite the positive reviews, I also find Condemned pretty plodding and unimpressive. I don't feel like making myself try to play it. I am tired of wandering around dark dilapidated buildings.
The other games don't even interest me enough to be worth a look. Oh how quickly the love fades. :)

Tallon Overworld is my favorite - I seem to be able to earn the most extra balls there. When I play the Space Frigate, I barely miss a pathway along that upper loop, and the ball bounces straight down the middle. That and those damn shriekbats. Oh, and my high score is 13 million. </phallus>
Unfortunately, I'll be programming all weekend. If I can find a few moments when I'm not working, I'll play Trauma Center or Battlefield 2.

Wow, 13 Million! I usually start with Space Frigate simply because it is harder. Howevber, I tend to play for the artifacts more than points because my goal is to reach the temple just because I have yet to do so. If I get 5 or 6 artifacts by my last life on Space Frigate, I can then teleport to Tallon and earn back some extra lives. The Phazon Mines is where I am usually done in. Those damn missles from the boss bounce me around so uncontrolably and it's hard to stay on the top half long enough to finish him. Oh and I HATE HATE the triceritops. Everytime I get to that mission, one of them is bound to spit the ball right down the middle of the screen.

I still think it's a worthwhile purchase, just the excitement has worn off. It's no different than any other system launch in that there is a lull after the initial launch period. It would help if I liked racing games, but I bought Project Gotham and discovered it really was a waste of money for me. I might have enjoyed Need for Speed better, but since I do not purchase EA stuff, it wasn't an option.
I still really did Geometry Wars and Live Arcade in general. There are great things in store for the future. But I do have to be honest that th e360 definitely is not the best "gaming value" at this point. I get a lot more entertainment out of my $120 DS.

SHH! I already own Lunar, but haven't played it since it was on Sega CD...so now I'm gonna attempt it on PS1. I actually have such a huge backlog of games (mostly RPGs) that they stretch onto the PS1. I'll get Metroid Pinball sometime, just not right now. Too many games, too many games, too many games!
I have Advance Wars DS coming in the mail but after that, no purchases for a while. I can readily afford games and systems, but time is a commodity I need to put to better use. Yeah Kameo seems to be the only launch title that interests me.
I really purchased the 360 at this point for live arcade titles with the promise of other titles in the pipes. I've already got a promise from my business partner that we'll settle any and all differences with Fight Night Round 3. I'm also anticipating SF2 via arcade.

I play FPS on my PC and already have done COD2 and Quake4.
I do have a recent new found love of driving games though but I can't beat my setup on my PC right now. Just spent a wad on the logitech momo controls for my desktop. These controls will be bolted to my desk all weekend as I play NFS:MW. Even my 2 year old son loves driving the red mustang gt. He does pretty good as long as I keep it floored.

Actually, controlling PG3 on the pad is just like driving a car in real life - especially the way the triggers controll the gas and brake. Not to mention the analog thumbsticks in place of the wheel...
Seriously - it's as good as the setup allows. I have no complaints whatsoever. Well, now that I think about it - the in-car replays look odd as the steering wheel is jerked all over the place rather than smoothly moving from left to right.

Kameo was gorgeous. Fantastic game, I had a lot of fun, especially playing coop. I really dug COD2...so intense. The lobby system sucks, but beyond that the multiplayer itself is a ton of fun I think. PDZ...eh...The coop is fun, there's something to be said for the multiplayer too...but...really I haven't even bothered to finish it. I *LOVED* Condemned...but it got traded in. As great as it was, there is just no replay value.
DOA4 is dropdead gorgeous. I *HATED* DOA3...despised the mechanics. Typically I'm a Tekken guy. DOA4 sold me. It feels much more technical. I really am getting a huge kick out of it. It seems like a real deep fighter now, as opposed to a mess of button mashing. PGR3, while beautiful, was a bit uninspiring. I really like customization in racers...so I should've gotten NFSMW
I really like Gun...but it was too short, too sparse. Not a $60 next-gen game, at least not IMHO.
I'm biting my nails waiting for Alan Wake, Oblivion, Frame City Killer, Saints Row, The Outfit, and Full Auto. Oh...shit...and gears of war and the godfather. Wait...and Test Drive looks hot too. Jesus. I count $540 plus tax. I want to own (Not gameznflix) every last one of those. Oh...shit...Burnout Revenge.
Really, I dig the console. This is by far the best launch titles I remember playing personally. Maybe it's the wow factor...especially since I have an HDTV, but I don't really have any buyers remorse at all. I've had so much fun, and so have my friends.
Plus...man...did you see fight night round 3?
Sorry for the long rant. I'm excited.
PGR3 - learning to drive with manual
DoA4 - learn the fighting system

When you get 12 (I believe that is the required number but not certain) you open up the pathway to the elusive "Temple" board. It is so close to being within my grasp. I cannot take it. DoA4 and City of Heroes/Villians for me. Decided to try an Illusion/Kinetics guy. Still as addictive as crack, that game.
DoA4 is what I orignally bought the 360 for, wanted an online, good fighting game, and despite the jokes about DoA's boobiefighter physics, I find it a hell of a fun game. That, and with Live, theres usually some witty banter going on around the matches.
And sometimes you get to hear priceless things, like someone eating soup. Someone eating soup who leans down to far and dips the 360 mic in the hot fluid, somehow creating a noise not unlike a truck rolling over a cat, with much profanity about the F'n soup in the mic.

I just made it to the temple with all 12 artifacts. Unfortnately I made the decision to return top Talon to restock on extra lives before journeying forward after completing the temple. It was a bad decision. The missions are much harder. And I not only completely failed to gain new lives, but lost the two extra ones I still had in stock. So I didn't even get to SEE the next board. Oh well, not a bad run overall. Finished with 6.9 million. God, I love this game.

I'm hoping to find some time for Resident Evil 4. The tricky part is doing it without disturbing my young children or making my wife mad. Gotta get some headphones for the Gamecube.
I've been playing a bit of Civ 4, which still fascinates me. I started a tiny world with nine civilizations. I expanded to three cities and then switched over to conquest mode. I just defeated the Russians who were in first position. Unfortunately the other civilizations have quickly caught up with me and I fear I have to either take on my next biggest rival or swallow up some of the smaller civilizations. Mmm . . . global conquest.

Finishing up Condemned, working for all Gold trophies at PGR3 and whittling down my remaining season games in NHL2K6. Rock.
All this talk about Metroid Pinball has me craving a DS purchase too but I'll try to hold off at the moment!

I am so glad there were no graphical MMOs when I was working on my thesis - and there were some great games - but it is not like today.
Spellforce is a great game to pick up. I got Spellforce Plat (game plus two expansions) for 19 bucks (17 at Amazon). That is a price you can't beat.

Lots of Animal Crossing, and Dead or Alive 4. If I can find a copy of Guitar Hero tonight, then I'll be playing that as well.
Lots at Fayette Mall and Best Buy, at least the last time I checked... DQ8 beat it out though... :D

the trying to get sleep and changing a newborn diapers game.
Ah, I remember those early levels. I'm at the 18-month level now, which means that I do get a lot more sleep but in exchange for that I spend all of my waking hours chasing him around.
Let's see what I'm going to get up to this weekend.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (On the 3rd case... what a delightful game)
WoW (Why didn't someone tell me the Plaguelands had such fun quests?)
DQVIII (I finally had a bit of free time during the weekend played for an hour or two. Just finished up the Argonia coronation segment and am wandering the western woods now. Hopefully I'll have access to the TV for more than 8 minutes today and can make more progress.)
Other than those games, not much.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next shipment of Animal Crossing:Wild World to arrive at the local EB (where I've had it paid off for a week) and Electroplankton is arriving next week. Now that I know what Electroplankton is, I'm alternately regretting my preorder AND salivating at the chance to try it out. Sigh.
I'm reading a big stack of graphic novels that I got from the library so that'll keep me busy for most of the weekend too. Superman: Red Son is an amazing retelling of the Superman legacy, which is nice for people like me who really don't care for Supes. The Escapist was an interesting pseudo-archival jaunt through the supposed archives of a little known comic hero. Currently reading Batman: Hush Vol. 1 & 2. After that, I'll get around to reading V For Vendetta.
Good call on the Lunar, Kelegacy. My limited edition Ghaelon boxing doll gives you a one extended boxing glove salute!

Unfortunetly I wasn't in Lexington... I don't go back until tomarrow. Gamestop was also showing it as being sold out at most places within 200 miles of my home, including Lexington. Anyhow, I went ahead and bought Riviera: The Promised Land (GBA), mostly because I had a dream about it last night. It's turning out to be pretty cool though, it's like a choose your own adventure game but with JRPG battles.
Plus, I now have extra money laying around to get some music downloads, a new portrait commissioned for Furcadia, and a new port space to house that portrait.
I also got this cool thing for my laptop today made by Targus. It's called a Lap Desk (http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/82223/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#tabs) and it allows me to prop up my laptop into a more ergonomic position. I'm enjoy it quite a bit, and it's smaller than the laptop itself so it should help me when I'm in those crappy desks they put in lecture halls at the University. It's uber small and light too, I can easily slide it into a pocket on my laptop bag.
DQ8...about to hit the Dragon Graveyard

Not much as this weekend is a mini-vacation with the woman. No gaming till Monday
Aha, I have that going on next week.
Why is it nice?
I think the implication is that many people are defending it just cause they purchased the money and not owning up to the fact that they just aren't enjoying it as much as they would've hoped. Certainly that's not true of everyone, but I'd imagine it's true of some.

Hush is okay but not great, V for Vendetta is awesome, and if you liked Escapist, make sure to read The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. Great novel.
Know it's already almost the end of the weekend, but I hadn't posted if only because this has been my gaming-est weekend in a LONG time! I've gotten a lot of time into Dragon Quest VIII and Guitar Hero. Hoping to get close to the end of DQ8 before break is over, but I'm only at the 30-hour mark, and I'll be gone next weekend, as I said above. I've also thrown some time into City of Villains. Got my stalker to level 16 now, but I'll probably retire him come February. Ah, well.
