Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) is reporting (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141859.html) that Microsoft has announced the Capcom Classic will be available to download over live, eventually.

Microsoft's CES presentation also had revelations for current Xbox 360 owners. In an almost offhanded remark, Gates said that one of Capcom's most popular old-school arcade titles, Street Fighter 2, will be available via Xbox Live Marketplace later in the year.
What is there to say besides "Sweet!" Between the Revolution and MS we should get all the great titles from our youth reissued and revamped.

For free or will be micropaying out the @ss for games we paid for over 10 years ago?

Wow! For a whole $2 I can change Chun Li's panty colour or give Blanka a cool up to date hip-hop afro.

Whining will get you nowhere. If you don't want to pay for it, then go ahead and enjoy your copy that you bought 10 years ago.

Reissued, sure. But revamped? We'll see.

Speaking of Street Fighter 2. I went to Frys sometime ago, and there was an arcade machine with, among others, Street Fighter 2. I watched two kids (probably 10 year olds) go at it. One kid played as Blanka, the other played as Guile. The kid as Blanka won, and so the other kid got off. I got on, picked Ryu, and decimated this kid, two perfect victories in under 10 seconds. The second I landed the final blow, I walked away from the machine without saying anything.

Errr?? You on some kind of power trip? Beating up kids in Frys... you should be ashamed! ;)

Anyone else cringe when "reporting" is used beside "Gamespot"? :) Not that I don't tend to trust their reviews first, and love the free video reviews... just, seems unnatural.

So the fuck what? Perhaps you can play other people online. Did you get that ten years ago?

I mean, really, call yourself a Wahmbulance. XBL's trying to keep their Arcade filled to the brim with new content, and the only response is bitching? Give me a break. Yes, you micropay. At the end of the day, it'll still be, what, $5, maybe? Little more than that? No biggie. I can get that kind of money by dipping into my change drawer.

Win/Win scenario: We pay a little bit for a little game, they get a little bit of cash from all of us for providing it. I've been playing Geometry Wars more than some retail games. That may change when Condemned GameFly's my way, but still. Live Arcade's a success, as far as I'm concerned. It's something that I use and plan to continue using for a while. You don't have to pay for any of it. Once you buy the game, you don't have to pay for the other little add-ons that I'm sure will be made available along with it.

I mean, really. If you're going to bitch, pick something a little more worth your while.

Yeah, big deal. Last week I knocked out Muhammad Ali. Of course, it was hard to land a decent punch on him, he was twitching so much...

I just gotta hassle you like the others. ..Newsflash: You don't *have* to buy it. Me? Hell yeah, I'm gonna buy in. I can recognise that some Microsoft chump has probably been coding his dev-360 next to Streetfighter running on MAME. Like other XBox Arcade titles there's likely to be online stuff added in. ..Sure I could set up an XBox, chip it, put MAME on.. etc. But I put value on my time.

If I can just get this on the 360, and beat the crap outa one of my friends online (coz I see them more online than I do in person), I'm happy to do it and pay the evil corporation for the privilege. Sure beats the hell out of paying almost full price for Donkey Kong for the Gameboy *without* any extras at least.

Honestly, I've always perferred the SNK games over Capcom. Give me Fatal Fury and Last Blade over SF every day.

But then, I'm a strange one.

yay last blade.

nice if it's free, if it isn't, I've got a working mega drive (genesis) which supports "lots of colors" so I'll just use that, kthxbai.

I don't know if I'm too keen on rereleases, but whatever. As long as it doesn't become the norm, like Hollywood redoing movies from 20-50 years ago. I hate remakes, rehashes, and their ilk.

I'd rather have one of the Street Fighter Alpha games, personally... or even Street Fighter III. Street Fighter II is just too slow to go back to these days, unfortunetly. But at the time, it was god.

To be fair I'm guessing it'll probably be $10 or even $15 for this game. Look at how much they want for that silly billards game.

Speaking of Street Fighter 2.

I think the point he's trying to make here is that he loved this game so much that not having played it in a few years he still remembered the right moves to decimate his opponent in that way. I mean really, once you master the Hadoken, do you ever forget how to do it? SF2 has always been the cornerstone franchise of 2D fighting games and there isn't any reason to stop releasing it just because it's old. It's still a fantastic game and it deserves to be out there for a new generation of gamers to discover.

uh oh... so lets say its 4.99 for this. then comes championship edit., turbo, "hyper-thunder-electric-shock" version, super, super turbo... etc for the same price? i hope not. but anyways. street fighter II is a great game, even though ive played the mess outta these games on mame, id love to see classics never released on a console; such as the konami sidescrolling X-men title, Alien vs Predator, or Elevator Action Returns (remember that?!). Hmmm alot of possiblities here, they can even rerelease games that made it home, but had ports that were sub par, such as Killer Instinct maybe.. now that they've acquired Rare. Good stuff.

I wish they would set up a subscription base for live! arcade, I hate paying 6 bucks for these games that I spent 50 dollars on years ago.

I would rather pay 10-15 dollars monthly for unlimited access, but I guess that is just me. Lets hope nintendo goes the subscription route or I am gonna be in trouble.

Can anyone still legitimately bitch about SF2 re-releases? It's been released on EVERY GODDAMN PLATFORM EVER, so how is this a surprise? Just be glad it's available through Live Arcade at $10 instead of on a 360 disk for $60.

It maybe sound sweet to people that only play on console but those how play on PC in my opinion its not big deal, emulator of almost all consoles have been available during a long time, N64, PSX, MAME, SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, GB, and even the PS2 :D

Though its still good that they are giving people the opportunity to play those games in console ;)

Wow! Nice grab for Live. This is seriously the one thing that makes Xbox 360 unendingly appealing to me. Here's hoping they keep building it up.

There's a pretty big difference between rereleasing a game for play on modern systems and actually remaking it. This is more akin to taking old films that may have only been available on VHS and putting them onto DVD. Nobody would ever cite that as crazy or bad, right?

I think he was referring to micropayments for more ingame features. Hence the "changing the color of Chun-Li's panties", etc. Come on, be fair. He was just goin on how MS could milk the crap out of the micropayment thing for misc. ingame content.

Possibly, but what do these new rereleases offer their former counterparts besides online play and scoreboards? I guess that's enough, though. I just fear that, for example, with the Playstation 3, we'll be downloading Playstation 1 games that have been rereleased, Xbox games with the Xbox 3, etc. etc. Maybe I have a problem with originality vs sitting on your profitable laurels. Nintendo is doing this with the Revolution, but I suppose there's a big enough market for it. I know that I probably wont keep buying the same game across multiple platforms, sort of how people buy multiple versions of the same movie as time progresses, formats change, and new editions come out.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea for these companies and it can benefit us nostalgic gamers a TON, but it all depends on the price tag. I don't think I'll want to spend 15 bucks for an old game I bought years ago and still own, or can purchase used--a hardcopy--for the same price or cheaper.

Not all DVD rereleases offer much new stuff. That's why they're rereleases. It's just to bring it to the newest format so that people who may not have had the chance can now enjoy it on their new DVD players, and people who loved it before can continue to with the new technology. If you get DVDs of older movies though, especially if they weren't really big, a lot of times they have very little if any bonus features. At the very least it opens it up to people who want to buy the old stuff, and at the worst it still shouldn't interfere with creation of new games in any way, certainly not in the way actual remakes would.

I just fear that, for example, with the Playstation 3, we'll be downloading Playstation 1 games that have been rereleased, Xbox games with the Xbox 3, etc. etc.

Obviously that's a point where things would be getting out of hand, but that's why I think most gamers really hope backwards compatibility stays as big as its been.

I mostly agree with that. There's a few old games I'd be willing to pay as much as 20-30 bucks for, but very very few.

He was just goin on how MS could milk the crap out of the micropayment thing for misc. ingame content.MS hasn't done that for any game yet though, so his speculation is pretty baseless. The closest they came was the new outfit pack for Kameo that was $2. And that was worth all two of those dollars.

He's just repeating the same stuff that detractors did when they first heard about micropayments, but in the face of how it really works you don’t hear it a lot anymore.

Yeah, I see what your saying Ach. I personally don't mind micropayments at all. It's the best new consumer model out there right now. Even used games could benefit buy this if micropaid content isn't connected to a disc, but rather to an account. Which I imagine it is anyway.
