Gizmodo (http://gizmodo.com/5249755/logitech-harmony-ps3-remote-adapter-review) has a brief review up of the Logitech PS3 Adapter that will allow all of your lovely Harmony remotes the ability to not only control your PlayStation 3 through its normal functions, but even turn it on and off... which similar IR Dongle solutions cannot do.

The Verdict: So worth it. Not only can the adapter turn on and off the PS3 directly from your remote—it's powered from an AC outlet instead of one of the PS3's USB ports—just about every function that the PS3 can perform can be mapped onto the remote's buttons.

It's 60 freakin' bucks... but hey, at least it keeps the Harmony relevant without having to deal with a stupid IR dongle.

I don't see this as much of an improvement over an IR dongle. Instead of plugging it into the PS3 you need to plug it into the wall. Sony really needs to add an IR input the the next time they revise the hardware.

The on/off functionality is key... additionally, the IR USB dongle appears as another input device on the PS3, forcing your PS3 controller to usually default to Input #2 instead of #1. This will appear, to the PS3, as a simple bluetooth remote. But I agree, it really should have had an IR port to begin with.

I'm always shocked to learn what features the PS3 doesn't have.

I'm so used to turning my 360 on/off with the remote it came with that its just dd for me to think the PS3 doesn't share such basic functionality.

This sounded pretty cool when it was announced, but considering that $60 is more than I paid for my Harmony remote itself, I think I'll be waiting for a sale on this.

Actually, you can turn the PS3 on and off with the Sony remote (it's bluetooth) the same as you can with any controller. You just need an adapter for the Logitech Harmony remote, like it says in the article. Read before posting.

....60 bucks?!?! WTF is an understatement... I am not that lazy that I can't just pick up the controller to navigate through stuff.. the controller turns the damn thing on anyway. That price is insane for such a mediocre improvement.

Exactly. This is for people with larger entertainment systems (lots of different components), and one fully programmable remote to control every single device/input/etc...

I got the Harmony One remote, more for the wife, who could never figure out how to turn the system properly. She could get it to work for TV, but forget trying to watch a DVD/HD-DVD/Blue-Ray, etc... She would alweays get the sources and modes completly screwed up, even with a step by step set of instructions. Someone people just dont get tech items.

So with this add-on, it leaves only thew Wii with no direct support now.

I'm always shocked that the 360 still doesn't have built-in WiFi :)

wow. welcome to the party (LATE) harmony.

i've been doing this for well over a year now with my IR2BT device and my Harmony One.

They even have a nice PS3 database to configure the remote.

Instead of bluetooth why didn't Sony use RF? It provides the advantages of bluetooth but is a lot cheaper. Yes RF doesn't have the data throughput rate but seriously this is a remote. For such a forward looking company Sony seems to make some DUMB decisions.

A lot of people think Bluetooth is the next hot thing, and it certainly has its place. It made sense for them to use because of the other bluetooth functionality required for the PS3. Adding an IR port or RF ability would be just another addition to an already seemingly feature rich media device, and it was costing enough to manufacture already... Too bad it meant alienating things like the Harmony remote.

...Plus it goes along with the BluRay stuff.

Crap, did I just defend the PS3?
