Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com) has more details (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=7677).
Florida-based game developer Smiling Gator Production, which was founded in late 2003 by former executives and staff from AOL/Time Warner and Link Simulation and Training, has announced that it has canceled its Source Engine-powered PC MMO Twilight War: After the Fall and has shut down, following the expiry of the company's initial funding.
An official message on Smiling Gator's webpage explains: "Our committed funds have run dry and we were not successful in the hunt for additional investment. The websites and email will be disabled in the coming days, so this is our last announcement before we shut down for good."
Another small developer bites the dust and another promising games goes with it.
Has the MMO bubble finally burst?

They were located here in Florida. Truthfully from what they were working on and how the game was looking I am not surprised. They seem to be just trying to "CASH IN" on the MMOs market. The mechanics of the MMO they had brought nothing innovative or new to the market.
It is sad to see a Developer fizzle, but with them I was not banking on them making it anyway. ;) Now if the Phantom company also in Florida would just damn die. :)

I wonder what exactly happens to projects like these? I mean does everything theyve worked on for the past months just go in a box and sit there? Sounds very dissapointing if it does. Were there any screenies of this ever produced?

It'll be long 5-7 years before anything tops WoW's popularity. Just like it was with EQ1 before.

Well you may read a lot of gaming news, but you clearly missed out on this. Smiling Gator made a splash ages ago by announcing that their first game was going to be using Valve's Source engine.

Wow, that really blows. So much for my Fallout-esque MMO dream.

Not really... Brethesda has the rights to the Fallout Universe now. They have been tossing around rumors of using the Morrowind engine to make a Fallout single player game AND a Fallout MMO. Who knows... I know I am hoping.

If I recall, Interplay actually kept the rights to any fallout MMO. And I didn't mean literally so much as a post apocalyptic MMO of any sort.

True. I'm looking forward to checking it out when the inevitable open beta hits. I'd be more pumped about it if it wasn't confined to only exploring/combat in vehicles though.
