IGN (http://www.ign.com) recently talked with MadCatz (http://revolution.ign.com/articles/678/678646p1.html) about the Nintendo Revolution and what accessories and possibilities MadCatz can bring to the table as a 3rd party manufacturer. After getting through the initial sales pitch, there seems to be some decent information in the article.
Nintendo is obviously stressing its Virtual Console service. Can we expect to see Mad Catz NES, SNES or N64 controllers for Revolution as well?
The library of Nintendo games being offered via the Virtual Console is impressive. Mad Catz will support these games with our core controllers and investigation into retro controller shells is currently under way.
Bring it on! I must go the unpopular route and say that the Nintendo Rev will kick some serious ass this year in both North America and Japan.

Unpopular route? Most people I know are looking forward to the Revolution, but it continues to be this forbidden want. Is it more fun if liking the Rev is rebelous?
Damn straight. I'll be getting a Rev on launch day. No doubt about it. (That ability to catch up on the gamecube back-catalogue is a nice perk too, since I skipped that Nintendo console.) ..And I won't even be particularly concerned about getting any form of Mad Catz wheel this time. I wanna try racing games with that controller. That and FPS games should just own.
Thread hijack: So for multiplatform online FPS games, anyone think it'll be all the Revolution owners at the top of the table coz they're the only ones with the FPS-friendly controller. ;) (hmmm.. maybe that's more just an attempt to stir some people up, rather than thread-hijack) :D

a couple of years ago at E3 a mad catz employee claimed their new controllers could resist a shot from a .22 caliber firearm. anyone up for trying this?

I know some people get a bit frustrated and toss their controller around (I am guilty of this myself on occasion), but is bullet damage a serious problem with game controllers?
I also wonder what testing was like for that controller:
<fires bullet>
<checks controller>
"Nope, still not bulletproof."

3rd party Revolution controllers? None of these 3rd party companies can even get the frickin' STICKS right (IMO), well alone the new Revolution sensor gizmos.
3rd party controllers? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

If the revo has the entire library of previous nintendo games available I am sold. If it doesn't have say... square's back cataloge, I won't be purchasing.

Squeenix is busy releasing their entire back catalog on their own, so I wouldn't hold your breath for that particular selection.

Ok, so you WON'T get a new console which promises a brand new gaming experience because it won't have FF1, a game that you can play on 5 different systems TODAY? Your loss.

Actually I was more hoping to play Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger, but anyways....

They can bring shoddy manufacturing and poor ergonomic design to a system desperately in need of both.

Does anyone buy madcatz crap other than cheap parents?

i bought a retrocon (NES shaped controller for PS2). i use it with my PC (PS2->USB adapter) and it works flawlessly. i've also used (but don't own) madcatz dance pads and they worked perfectly. in fact, newer (bulletproof?) PS2 controllers from them are pretty solid now also. but in my experience they don't respond as well to wear and tear. but i haven't realy time tested the newer ones.

When it comes to the ridiculously high-priced area of steering wheels, Mad Catz has served me well. I've only had two, and they were both second hand, but they were just fine by me. Of course, for other controller-types I'll go with a different brand. :D
For racing games:
cheap wheel > joystick/pad
cheap wheel < gold-plated leather-grip super-duper force-feedbackical wheel
But confucus say fat wad of cash give longer lasting bulge in pocket than hard-on over exciting controller.

Ha! I'd say that pretty much sums up why people buy the Mad Catz controlers. Personally every time I look at 3rd party controllers they just look too crappy for me to waste my time but I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there that care more about the $10-$15 price difference.

I was really tempted by the Pelican Xbox controllers that move the black and white buttons to above the triggers. Problem was I already had a nice Logitech wireless controller, so I never picked one up.
