Now available for downloading and playing on Xbox Live 360 are new demos for Activision's Quake 4 (http://www.quake4game.com/), Electronic Art's Madden NFL 06 (http://www.easports.com/madden06/index.jsp) and Monolith's Condemned: Criminal Origins (http://www.lith.com/condemned.asp). Each demo runs about 600 MB and they are free with your Xbox Live Gold Membership.

Thanks, Frankenass.

Where have you been? The Madden 06 demo has been available for about a month now.

I just came here to say I'm glad we now have an ad for EVE online on the right.

I guess you should have stayed home.

LOL, "free" demos with gold?
What, if you don't have gold, you pay?

Pretty damn stupid.

Nice conclusion jump, Clancy. Very well thought out and backed up.

...For your information, dumbass, Silver members have the same access to downloadable content as Gold members. The only difference between them is online PLAY.

Well that's just because its a stupid LIE.

I logged in with my wifes free silver account to confirm it. OF COURSE you can get also get the free demo downloads from a silver account...

Why would MS deny advertisements to their non-paying subscribers? It turns out that they wouldn't.

Slightly off topic...You would think companies would like to get their demos in as many hands as possible. When I ran the 360 demo for Need for Speed, I got a harsh message about not redistributing the demo. EA are a bunch of dumbasses.

It's really cool being able to download demos from Live. I would think the magazines with demo discs will be hurting this generation. Except the PS3 ones, that is.

Well Cyrano, I wouldn't count on downloadable Rev demos either. Remember that it won't have a hard-drive, and demos can frequently skirt the 1GB mark.

Good point. Maybe only the not-very-good OXM will suffer.

Not neccesarily, they just have to be more creative. For example, this month they had the Full Auto demo exclusively and sometime soon the mag will have the complete Final Fantasy XI beta.

I wonder, is there a boost in performance for Quake 4 being executed from the HD than the disk? Can someone figure that out?

I was shocked that Q4 ran so badly... ouch.

Next is Condemned... a much better experience apparently ;)

q4 runs fine for me, but I have have seen other posts about frame rates and online play. Condemned (demo) scared the hell out of me after one of the crazy guys ran in front of me and disappeared into the shadows. I searched for 5 minutes before I turned off the 360 and hid under my blanket because I thought he was in my house.

I finished the full version of Condemned and it's brilliant. It's a little on the short side (10 hours) but it's very brutal and very scary (turn off the lights and crank the 5.1 system).

Yeah, the Condemned demo is new for this week. It took me a hell of a long time to download it (~3 hours?), but I am on a wireless connection. And yeah it was pretty scary. Those bums would creep around in the shadows and attack you when you least expect it. I was a little dissappointed that the main baddy wasn't creepier looking. The graphics and frame rate were very impressive.

Also keep in mind that Nintendo Power doesn't have many demos. If any, I mean I've never seen a Nintendo Power magazine packaged with demos. But then again, I stopped subscribing around the begining of the N64-PS1 era.

Condemned's okay, but FEAR is scarrier. I can't wait till they port that to the 360, so I can sit back on my couch, with the lights off and 5.1!
