Its official folks, Thief 4 which many people assumed was being teased (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82602) already by Eidos Montreal is in fact, real... and coming. There's even a full on website with forum (http://www.thief4.com/) up and running.
Eidos-Montréal is excited to unveil its previously secret second title in development at the studio, Thief 4, the next instalment in the legendary series.
The original Thief game, Thief: The Dark Project redefined first person gaming and established an entirely new genre of stealth based game play. The critically and commercially acclaimed Thief series has won numerous awards and accolades including GameSpy Hall of Fame, GameSpot Greatest Games of All Time and The Academy of Interactive Arts And Sciences Outstanding Achievement in Character and Story Development.
Eidos-Montréal, which is also currently producing the much anticipated Deus Ex 3, has recruited the very best core team for the development of Thief 4. The team is comprised of industry veterans who have worked on an incredible collection of AAA titles and who each bring personal expertise in their respective fields.
“We’re in the early development stages for Thief 4, but this is an incredibly ambitious and exciting project for Eidos,” said Stéphane D’Astous, General Manager at Eidos-Montréal. “While it’s too early for us to offer any specific game details, right now we are focused on recruiting the very best talent to join the core team at the studio and help us make what we believe will be one of the most exciting games on the market.”
Development is under way and the team is looking to recruit the very best talent as production ramps up. If you are a world-class developer looking to join the talented Thief 4 team, visit www.eidosmontreal.com to submit your résumé or www.thief4.com to join the community discussion.

Sweet. Maybe they'll include the only thing Thief has been missing all these years: decent animations.

If you feel like bitching about the 4 in place of the E there already is a thread (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=88480) about it in the official forum. Go away. ;)
I hope the girls and boys in Montreal can pull it off. It's no small task.

I didn't play #3, but I always thought that #1 had too many zombies. #2 seemed to go in the right direction though... but I still don't want zombies in my thief game.

Is it looking glass developers tho? They are who made the magic happen.

YOU SHUT YOUR DIRTY WHORE MOUTH!
Seriously, I love the supernatural touch of the series. I hope they keep it.

I thought one of the stupidest things ever was in a game, where you're supposed to sneak around, zombies could see you no matter where you were.

Oh wait. I think I haven't played the first one. I played Dark Project and a bit of Deadly Shadows. I don't recall zombies in the former, more like a specter or a skeleton. And you could sneak around him.
But anyway... DID YOU SEE THAT GUYS? MODEPS HATES ZOMBIES!

You totally could sneak around the zombies, in fact you had to, since you could only kill them with holy water and couldn't knock them out. With regular human guards, you had the option to snipe or knock out everyone else in the level (I loved creating a pile of knocked-out guards myself).

This will be a Day 1 purchase for me on the X360. I am a HUGE fan of the previous games... Unlike anything else.

I think I played the demo of either 2 or 3. I don't remember. Who thinks I should go back and play at least one of them?

Play the first one if you can stomach the graphics, the series does have an overarching storyline to it. Also it is my favorite, I couldn't get into the third one b/c of all the loading screens(Xbox 360, dunno what the PC version was like) :(

So is this one going to stay as a stealth game? Or is it getting modernized and becoming more of a shooter?

I'm buying this the second it's released for the 360... I also wasn't a big fan of the zombies, but mostly just because I'm a big pussy.

Please have similar controls as Thief 2 as well as it's humongous maps, and throw all your Thief 3 ideas out the window (wtf, climbing gloves and no rope arrow, blue shadows, glinting loot, etc). Thanks. Also, please make non-lethal play mandatory for hardcore difficulties again. Srsly.
Way to milk it Eidos, way to milk it. Just saw the other news too, reboots for other Eidos games including more Tomb Raider. Will it ever end?
Eidos, don't fucking release this crap on PC this time. Do the best you can with them on consoles (DX3 and T3) and leave them there. I'm sure as hell not buying another asstastic port of a PC cult classic.
I'm tired of good PC games being tarnished by shitty cash-in's that lack any sort of ambition. I wish they would give this "series" an entirely new title; these aren't Thief games anymore - Looking Glass Studios is gone.

Fuck consoles - develop for PC, then port to the crippled hardware and controls of consoles, instead of vice versa.

Amen, brother. Thief 1 & 2 are some of my all time favorites. Shit, I still have the boxes. However, I barely scratched the surface of 3 because of the obvious hitch it had to the console version. Loading screens mid level? Bullshit.

More like hyperbole. I enjoy console games, but I like my PC games developed for PC, then scaled down to console (if you must), as opposed to developed for console and ported to PC as a half-assed afterthought.
It's like if they announced that all future Bioshock games would be developed for the iPhone, but ported to the Xbox 360 without much enhancement. If they're going to scale down (dare I say, 'dumb down'?) a franchise to run on a platform with significant built-in limitations, I wish they'd have the intellectual honesty to just call it something else and start a new franchise, instead of eroding the original concept into oblivion.
Of course, that runs completely counter to cashing in at all costs.

Thi4f is such a great name. In an interview they said they were proud of the logo, and they believe it is keeping in line with the theme of the original games. This gives me so much hope that the game will be good. /sarcasm
If the only teaser you are releasing is a logo, and your logo is this bad, jesus christ. What good things can that say about their design abilities.
You can't really get much worse than Thi4f.
