Over the holidays Ogaming.com posted an interview (http://www.ogaming.com/data/3525~apb.php) with APB lead designer Stephen Hewitt from Real Time Worlds. The interview gives a lot of great info on the upcomming MMO from the creators of Grand Theft Auto, plus it contains some sweet Scottish humor.

Freedom!

The brainchild of David Jones, creator of the Grand Theft Auto franchise (we hear it's big with the kids, no?), this murderous MMO isn't just Asian publishing giant Webzen's flagship product for North America. It's also a (bitch) slap in the face to traditional online games, offering players the choice of becoming bloodthirsty crooks or upstanding law enforcement officials, then letting them shoot or drive their way across living, breathing urban battlegrounds. Introducing the concept of an endless turf war that rages 24/7, the title literally demands you double-fist your way through Hollywood-style firefights and other gritty scenes straight out of a movie or music video.

One of the funniest interviews from a game developer EVER. Must read the full story. :)

This is being created by the makers or GTA. Did you read the full article GrinR. . . very funny stuff in there. . . I wish the OP had quoted the dev rather than the writer (the dev is hilarious). Like this:

OGaming: Any particular movies, books or TV shows that are serving as inspiration for APB… besides "The Golden Girls," that is?

Stephen Hewitt : Damn, there goes our idea for a gang of single, 60+, young-at-heart women who share a sheltered turf area and smoke crack-laced cheesecake in Miami Beach.

Don Petrillo-Weinstock was one of our favorite characters...

Also, while he is not specific in the details, I'm getting the impression that the game will be played in online "matches" where you join a game as a "cop" or a "robber" and then you have to play out a crime (or crime prevention) with gameplay that will be much like Counter-Strike/GTA. Hopefully, they'll have the FPS depth of CS and the racing bit from GTA (GTA's 3rd person fighting has always been the weakest - but forgivable - part of the game).

Win the round and earn money, xp, etc. that can allow you to buy bigger weapons, be tougher to take down, drive better, own a better car, or have bling that bling-blangs.

Form clans/gangs and play together.

If they can put it on Live and provide good voice support, it will outsell WoW and make them all very rich Scotsman. . . they'll have to build vast vaults for all their money in order to swim in it like Scrooge McDuck.

yeah, I'm getting vibes bean's getting. heavily instanced, structured matches ftw, with maybe limited random cruising.

Which is probably best for an action game.
And a damn funny interview.
