Oh War_Tourist, producer at Epic Games, Inc., you are my hero. (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=508027)

Since UT2K7 will be launched with the PS3, I was wondering if it will be out first for that or the PC? Also, is it too early to say whether there will be a demo release, since there always has been a demo release? Btw...we could use some more info, screenshots, interviews on the games progess.

PC first. We're not scheduled to be a ps3 launch title, not certain where those news sites are getting that from. There will be a pre-release demo (on the PC at least).
Phew, it's ok to be excited for UT2007 again. I ain't gonna lie to ya, the idea of it being a console port was giving me the night terrors.

How many unreal tournaments do we really need? Unreal is turning into the Madden of the FPS world.

Until they stop being fun. I can't wait.

That's not a bad thing. It's not like they're puking a new one out every year. We've seen substantial improvements in each iteration so far (one step backward with 2k3 when they yanked Assault, but they made up for that and then some with 2k4).

I say as long as the games are getting better and they're not just making nasty cash-grabs every single year with the same game that now includes new textures, go for it. UT = kickass fun.

If Madden would release annually with the level of graphics improvements and gameplay that UT does, nobody would bitch about it being a franchise.

I think I'll still have to say I don't care about this game. UT2k3 and 4 were OK, but not as fun as I found the original and I can't really see the new one bringing too much else to the table. Also whenever I try to play UT2k4 online there are barely any players and the servers that do have players always have mutators on and quite often just use 1 map, so it isn't exactly my first choice for online play.

NOTES TO EPIC:

1) Good move (don't betray your PC fanbase)!
2) If you want me to buy this game the second time (on PS3) put some exclusive content in there. I won't probably play it on console (yuck!) but I could see myself flying through new maps or spectating in some on-line matches.

I'm not surprised there will be a PC demo out, but I'm still happy to hear it. UT2k4 was the success that it is because of the PC demo. Very happy to hear that its coming back once again.

Haters - remember, there's always a "don't buy" option. Don't worry, I hear there's more unique and innovative WWII FPS games on the way.

Very cool. I'm not as ridiculously anti-PS3 as a lot of people around here, but you know I dig seeing some PC love, especially from a series like UT that was built on it to begin with.

Every UT has been substantially better than the one before it.

UT 1 was a mess of an FPS IMO. To easy to spam and such, shitty Deathmatch, and just not as good as Quake 3.

2003 gave it way more focus, more Quake-like (good thing to me)
2004 just kicked it in the ass even more, 2004 was an amazing compilation of gameplay.

I'm sure 2007 will be just as an improvement, they are adding vehicular combat (A La Twisted Metal) as well! I can't wait and will have a new PC to play these soon enough (need it for Quake wars too)

And its not exactly like Madden, madden is per year with little changes, UT is not and has huge changes.

Another step backward with 2K7 though - no Assault again. :( This makes me extremely sad. If you like Assault, drop by the Dry Lobster. http://www.drylobster.com It's pretty much the last bastion of Assault 2K4, the public server is not often full but we get lots of pick-up games going on IRC.

All I want is an improved deathmatch. I agree with Jeff's early sentiments, though while I agree it has improved some what, I don't think it has anywhere near as much as most do. Q4 DM is the top right now, and it's only a clone of a 5 year old game.

But this is good news nonetheless.

This is still a damn sight better than the majority of games out there.

I don't know why this do not cross to my mind early but is obvious that the game is suppose to launch first for the PC. UT games have always been a game for the PC, yes i know they are several UT games for console, not ports, they just make the game with some slightly change and i'm not talking about the controller, but to the gameplay and if i;m correct some weapons e.c.t

You know why they aren't including assault?

BECAUSE NO ONE PLAYED IT!

Sure it's a cool concept, but no one ever played it. Bring on more Onslaught, and let assault die the death it should have after UT.

I don't know about you, but we played the ever living crap out of Assault.

Thank god this won't be a console port. I can't wait for this game now.

I don't know about you, but we played the ever living crap out of Assault. There are always plenty of anecdotes from people who loved Assault and claimed to have played online all the time. However, statistically it was played much less than the other gametypes. It's simply not worth including a gametype that a few people love and almost everyone ignores.

Another step backward with 2K7 though - no Assault again. If your view is that simplistic, you could as easily claim that removing Onslaught is "another step backward." Conquest is a new gametype that combines Onslaught and Assault.

I loved the original UT.

Only one I played besides 2k3 briefly.

Assault pissed me off because the defending team just spammed the everloving shit out of choke points with flak and rockets. Yay, that's fun. I played way more Instagib Domination and Team DM in the original UT.

Now... it's almost always Onslaught baby.

I HATE INSTAGIB, IT HAS RUINED THAT GAME!

I loved the original UT, but we only played LAN with friends, and nobody used the goddamned translocator. The TL is weak, weak weak. First time I played online I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

I HATE INSTAGIB, IT HAS RUINED THAT GAME!The TL is weak, weak weak. Both absolutely true. Pure normal weapons are far superior, and the TL ruins the whole point of the game for me -- people just translocate around instead of fighting.

Holy shit!

A gaming rumour with no substance to it turns out to be nothing more than a rumour?

Possible responses are:

a) "Epic suck! I was getting geared up for this"
b) "Smart move by Epic. I really didn't want them to do that"
c) Semi-relevant babble

Yay! If this game turned out to be a port of the console version, I'd have to quit UT. That would be so wrong and so inferior...

I never played assault online, though offline I puttered around with it. Never did much for me as a gametype. Also good assault maps are hard to make compared to the other game types and most you ever see are sub-par "trial" maps made by some clan. There are a few exceptions, like AS-Thrust and one where Malcom takes over hell. Personally I prefered ONS and VCTF, since I tend to do better in vehicles than on foot.

Q4 is the top?? Is that why Q4 has less players than UT2003? :p

Hey, I can only speak for one person:). By top I wasn't referring to sales margin or popularity.

I hope you ment UT2k4 because Quake 4 actually has more players then UT2k3. I actually dont like the Quake 4 multi. Now that I've played something like Battlefield 2 I just dont like DM anymore.

:) Well, IMO, UT has the more interesting gameplay, as it has since Unreal went up vs. Quake 2. The Quake series is alright, but personally I've been getting sick of the same old weapons (and when they do introduce something new, it's pretty much the same as something else). I also hate the character design and the ambiance in Quake, it just feels too goofy, alot more goofy than UT.

It was just an obvious jab. Looking at the stats it appears that either UT2003 has lost about 500 players or Q4 has gained about 500 players. Still not very impressive, IMO. Battle for Middle Earth, Halo PC, and the original Unreal Tournament all have more players than Q4.

I've loved every iteration and look forward to 2007.
