It appears several hacks had started to occur to bring in the new year on the XBox 360. According to Joystiq (http://joystiq.com/2006/01/01/xbox-360-hackers-cheat-at-hexic-other-xbla-games/), Hexic is the first game to get treatment.

1. Successfully ripping Hexic off of a kiosk disc and executing it in a PC browser (it runs very slowly)
2. Successfully modifying Hexic and running it on an Xbox 360 connected to Xbox Live
3. Hacking Hexic to earn several of the achievements without doing any of the work
4. Successfully running simple Flash applications that were never on the Xbox 360 (such as a clock application)
5. Modifying certain aspects of the King Kong kiosk demo to create the simple program pictured here

And so it begins... I guess a month of cheat free XBox Live was good while it lasted.

Facts:
1. I currently have the highest score in Hexic amongst those on my friends list.
2. All Hexic scores from this point out are suspect.

Conclusion:
I am The Hexic Master and no one can ever really say they've beaten my high score.

That's right BA, I know you've been desperately trying to find a way to top me in Hexic and finding no legitimate means of doing so had to resort to hacking the game. I'm on to you.

On a semirelated note: the fact that the leaderboards in Live Arcade track your friends by default is pretty cool.

That was pretty fast, although haxing a FLASH game is 1000 times easier than say hacking/ cheating Halo 3.

Hacking a Flash game isn't what's important, its the fact that modified parameters that were never attended to run on the 360 are being run. Trainers, mods, etc are definitely next.

I'm kind of out of the loop, and this question may be greeted with laughter, but I thought Bungie/Microsoft was able to ban the majority of cheaters on Halo 2. I doubt you can ban all cheaters all the time, but in general, isn't there very little cheating online in Halo 2?

Try me in Geometry Wars :) I can't believe all the scores at still at 0 right now...it's gonna be a bitch to break 2 million again. :)

I don't mind hacking and modding, as long as Microsoft can step in and start scanning for hacks. That's all I really care about. Beyond that, hacking a console can bring out a lot of cool stuff.

Cheating is like influenza. You beat one strain, then a new strain comes along.

this sucks balls. Hopefully people can stay away from unlocking the acheivements unfairly, but I knew it would happen sometime. Some people dump hours and hours to unlock an acheivement that most people cannot.
Hopefully it will not transfer over to the real games where soft mods and glitches exploit the game. I am off to play geometry wars full version when I get home from the inlaws today.....finally!!!!!!!

I have never really understood the whole hacker thing. I mean, the only game I ever thought really had a hacker problem was Counterstrike. I remember downloading an aimbot, a wallhack, and some assorted other hacks (maps... highlights, etc) and the game became a pushbutton insta-win for me. I bet it's still like that even now.

Aside from that, especially on the xbox, I thought that Live checked and updated this sort of thing right out of existance. No?

Isn't the proper term "cracking," not hacking.

Well there’s no pictures at all of the hacked Hexic. Not even a pic of the unlocked achievements. And the picture that’s supposedly of King Kong is not in 16:9 or running on a kiosk screen, and could easily be from the PC, Xbox or PS2 version assuming it’s from Kong at all, because there’s really no way to tell.

I remember another hacking story that came out that turned out to be fake. I wouldn't put it past a desperate hacking community that thought they'd have the thing cracked the day it came out to make this stuff up.

more likely this is a wmf exploit, and you peeps all got your systems infected just for looking at the "picture" - rootkitted and spywared insta!

tread lightly till the security vulnerability is adressed! how badly do you need to see cheats anyway?

I didn't realize it was going to be reset at the end of each month. Was this the first time it was reset since the launch? I just want to finally break 1 million heh.
