Happy New Year everyone. It was a long and interesting evening for me last night, with my normal job duties keeping me hopping from 1800 hours until 0500 hours - when we got the sad news that one of our Officers had been murdered last night in what I'm afraid will turn out to be an Officer vs. Officer assault at a shift party.

A pretty horrible way to end the day and bring in the new year.

I hope your New Year's Eve went much smoother and if you can take one thing away from the above anecdote, I hope it will be to appreciate the people around you that much more during the year because tragedy can strike at any time.

Thank you to rein for the New Year's Donation. Much appreciated!

Happy New Year

That is tragic. I feel for the officer's family and those who knew him.

I feel for both officer's families... they both have a lot of crap to deal with now. I hope that they do some serious, harsh justice to the guy who did it (e.g. fry his brains out in the electric chair). If they zapped people for crap like this, it would seriously make them stop and think next time.

Happy New Years everyone! I purpose a toast to E.A.com for it's outstanding performance this year and in the year to come. ;)

Damn talk about ending the year on a bad note , 1 cop killing another one is incredibly sad and also to me he deserves the death penalty for this crime just like anyone else who would kill a law enforcement officer. How can someone who is trained to deal with all different types of situations let something like this get so out of hand ? Damn if your not safe amongst other police officers at a party then where can you be safe?

Wow, I wouldn't be surprised if this made national news. I can't think of a worse way to ring in the new year and your entire precinct has my condolences.

Officer vs officer?

Damn, that's messed up Evil. Thank God You weren't the one attacked by a fellow employee. Here's for a better 2006 year for You and Your family!

This is exactly why I don't like to be around people who can't contain themselves after a beer or two. You never know who's gonna turn and go crazy. I can't imagine what the family of the officer is going through right now. Please pass on my condolences.

Hmm my quess is they either were horsing around and it got out of hand and one officer accidently killed the other whilst fighting or maybe there is some sort of love triangle going on between them and some woman..its almost always over a girl or some other stupid issue when a tragedy like this happens.

Sorry to hear about the loss in your department Evil. And you're right, we definitely need to stick close to the ones we love no matter what.

Happy New Year everyone.

Everybody - PLEASE do not quote that moron. His post will get deleted - your quotes probably won't.

I'll assume you're refering to the guy advocating the death penalty without knowing the circumstances of the situation. Yeah, I'll keep from replying to that guy.

But to everyone else, hope you all have a happy new year! Now I have to get used to writing 2006 on everything.

Had an interesting party. By buddy and his fiance got engaged a week ago, had a huge fight last night, she gave the ring back. Lots of drunk drama. :)

Horrible news about the officer. :(

WOW! That's a party no one will forget. Hopefully something positive will come out it, other than an interesting story.

That's terrible. My condolensces, EvAv.

Best New Years Eve story I can offer... My girlfriend and I went walking last night at about 12:30 or 12:45 and saw at least two or three different people pulled over by the cops. Also a pretty crap way to start the new year.

True - but would it have been better if those people had hit someone else while they were drunk? Not that I can assume every single person that gets pulled over the night of new years eve is drunk.......but that's why there are so many police officers out on new years eve - to try and catch the drunk people Before they kill someone else (or each other).

Looks like someone signed up for an account just to make that asinine comment - but perhaps through the magic of IP addresses we can find the real idiot and ban their true account?

if the death penalty truely deterred crime, there would be no crime in texas and ea would be out of a job. theres just no evidence that the death penalty or gun control work to reduce crime. they are both a waste of tax dollars.

Condolences from a brother officer, Evil. My department has had near tragedies that could have turned out like that (we had one unbalanced officer choose a shootout with the other deputies as a good way to tender her resignation- fortunately she gave up before somebody was actually shot).

I hope your department can grieve and recover from this.

That's horrible news Evil! I hope that the officer's family has lots of support after that.

Otherwise, happy new year, everyone. I didn't do anything more exciting than finish off a few quests in WoW and play Phoenix Wright till just after midnight (whilst watching The Princess Bride and then seeing Regis somehow be 4 seconds behind the actual count while the ball dropped...)

I'm actually having a New Year's Day party today since I don't have to work tomorrow. Guitar Hero, Serenity and the Doctor Who Christmas Invasion special FTW!

Yay! More Doctor Who love! I actually think the new guy, Tennet or whatever, may be better then ecleston, he just comes off more... eccentric.

And condolences to the family of the officer who was killed.

Before I say anything, EvAv, that's terrible. My heart and prayers go out to the families of all involved.

As for you, NutCase: last time I checked, they *do* fry people for murder. And yet they keep happening. Not much of a deterrent, is it? It keeps happening, and the state killing the (likely drunken) fool that initiated this mess isn't going to solve anything; it'll bring only more death and misery into the world.

Oh, no, I agree one hundred percent. That's the first thought that popped into my head and my girlfriend's, and it's why we avoided any traffic we saw when we were out on our walk.

I spent the New Year outside the San Francisco airport waiting for a shuttle to take me home. Good times. At least I got to kiss my wife at midnight.

Oh, and no murders. :( That's just a sad story.
