According to the following press release (http://www.prfree.com/index.php?cur=index&action=preview&id=36312) from CoolIT Systems (http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php), the world's first truly liquid-cooled Xbox 360 will be on display at this year's Comsumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 4th thru January 8th, 2006.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CALGARY, / PR FREE / Dec 29 2005 --
CoolIT Systems Inc. today announced that it is showcasing the world's first truly liquid-cooled Xbox 360 in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show from Jan. 4 – 8, 2006.

The retrofitted Xbox 360 will be on display at the CoolIT Systems booth 70556 in The Sands Expo Center throughout the duration of the CES Show. The display will feature a side-by-side comparison of the CoolIT MTEC liquid-chilled Xbox 360 to the standard Xbox 360 to demonstrate superiority for temperature, noise level and ultimate performance.

“Whether it’s a PC or gaming console, the avid gamer is constantly raising the bar for performance," said Geoff Lyon, CEO of CoolIT. "It's now obvious that only the most technologically advanced cooling system will be capable of keeping up with the heat production of today’s CPUs and GPUs. The exclusive MTEC technology allows us to provide enormous cooling power in a very compact form factor suitable for maintaining stable temperatures and ensuring optimum performance.”

The Microsoft Xbox 360 has been the topic of much discussion since its release on Nov. 22, 2005. Aside from its limited supply through Christmas and fantastic gaming abilities, many headlines have been about problems related to the excessive thermal output of Microsoft’s latest gaming console product.

To provide gaming consumers with a high performance option, CoolIT Systems has designed a retrofit product that will transform the stock forced air cooling system with a state-of-the-art liquid-chilled system that employs the exclusive MTEC technology pioneered by CoolIT Systems.

The CoolIT Booth will also showcase several newly- released retail products including the Freezone CPU Cooler compatible with both AMD and Intel processors and the USB Beverage Chiller.
Thanks to Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com) for the initial head's-up.

There's no doubt that installing such a cooling system on your Xbox 360 will void the warranty, but I wonder how many people will consider this? And just how much will it cost? And can I have one of those USB Beverage Chillers, please?

I don't see the need for installing this on the 360 or any console for that matter...unless the 360 is overclockable? and if it is, why bother?

I agree. Why bother?

Liquid cooling is only used in PC's for overclocking. Why in the hell could you possibly need liquid cooling on an xbox360? What's next? Liquid Cooled DVD Players, and Liquid Cooled TVs?

Maybe to counter the hysteria of over-heating by some.

I agree. The overheating problem seemed no bigger than the problems other consoles have faced during their launches. It seemed more a result of rushed assembly rather than the hardware itself. Considering the VAST majority of consoles are functioning without a problem, this cooling system is irrelevant in that sense.

As for the overclocking, that is obviously useless in a console as the software will in no way take advantage of the extra horsepower. If anything is currently bottlenecking the 360 it would definitely be the DVD drive speed, but this is simply not happening if current load times are any indication.

The only slight advantage I can see is that the operating sound would be significantly quieter, but I hardly see a little extra noise as being a good enough reason to shell out the cash for this cooling system. I find system noise to be one of those things that is noticeable only when you notice it. Sort of like blinking. (hope that makes sense)

Since my Xbox360 is a veritable thermobaric weapon, I'll be the first in line to get one of these.

Another peripheral that might be nice would be some sort of Whisper-Technology to shut the fucking system up.

"Holy shit, we're under attack, Mike! Da planes, da planes!"
"Kelegacy, dude, calm down; that's just the 360!"
"WHAT?"

Hopefully the system isn't as loud as my 7800GTX, jesus fucking christ when that thing gets going its loud.

you're asking why anybody would buy this junk AFTER that modded 360 sold on ebay for that crazy price??? pick your answer:

1) they have money to waste
2) they're stupid

no other reasons. #2 is however more frequent then one might imagine :)

Ten Grand for blue painted 360 with leds and a laptop harddrive is fucking idiotic.... damn, I should have thought of that.

I don't think people are looking at it from the overclocking angle but more from the noise angle. As is, its one damn loud machine.

That's unfortunate - although having factory built liquid cooling into the 360 is infeasable due to high costs, MS should have atleast invested in applying noise reducing materials inside the 360. That stuff (like spongy paper) is cheap. Granted, this may increase its cabinet temp but it'd probably be negligible with proper internal air flow design.

Really hope PS3 and Rev ain't gonna be loud as 747s.

This is why I'm going to wait until the third or fourth generation of 360s.
