Vivisector: Beast Inside developed by Action Forms (creators of Chasm and Carnivores series) is a unique mixture of 3D Action/Horror. The game blends a thrilling interactive story with intense, high-adrenaline action and immerses players in a rich and fascinating storyline. Hasn't there been a time with every game that you hadn't heard of it? I'm sure you weren't born with in depth knowledge about games that had yet to be released, so you had to hear about them somehow.

I gave it a try. IMO the demo is way too buggy to actually play though. I only played for 15 minutes and encountered probably 20 bugs...
Fell through the ground once. Crashed to desktop twice. Setting Distance Fog made the screen completely black. Quicksaved in an elevator which then just completely stopped moving... then when I quick loaded I fell through the floor of the elevator to my death. The AI is pretty horrible, they were shotting at me THROUGH a wall... couldn't see me, yet I could see the light from their plasma guns hitting the wall and could hear them shooting at me... same happened to one with a shotgun.
When I went to "Use" a lever I pressed use and nothing happened... and the "Use" icon (a hand) dissapeared as if I had used it... I had to load my save and try again for it to work.
There's no crouching... there's no reload button...
The game engine seems neat, as it looks "okay" but runs beautifully smooth. The creatures themselves are decent looking. The landscape is pretty bad looking... reminds me of the torque engine. The gunplay feels pretty bad... none of the guns feel like they have any power to them except the shotgun, which has such a random bullet spread that you're lucky to hit anything from even 20 feet away.
If they cleaned it up and added some good AI it could be a neat game. I won't judge too much from this demo. But overall I won't get my hopes up.
Never heard of this game before today anyway, so it's not like I care if it sucks.

Wait a minute!! I just realised that WP is only hosting the ALPHA demo for this game (which is what I grabbed). They released a "real" demo too. Not from an alpha build of the game.
Taken from Bluesnews...
"A pair of Vivisector: Beast Within demos are online in an unusual set of fraternal twin samples for Action Forms' first-person shooter. There is an Alpha Demo from an older build on the Vivisector Website, the 177 MB download is mirrored on 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers, and FileFront. The official two-level demo is also now available, featuring a pair of levels from the game with English voice acting and German subtitles, the 189 MB download can be found on 3D Gamers and Gameguru Mania."
The one on Worthplaying is the 177mb alpha build.
Edit: Upon playing the "new" demo I find that the game is much improved. Graphics look much better, still runs nice. Weapons are a bit better. Not as glitchy, and you can crouch now. However the AI is still pretty bad and it doesn't seem like it's going to be a very good game. Oh well.

Ahh Chasm. I'm pleased that somebody else in the world played that game.
I always felt that game didn't get nearly enough credit. It was one of the first games to have polygon based enemies in a FPS, and probably the first to have location based damage. It was great shooting the bad guys in the head and having their head actually pop off.

I'd love if this was an action game starring the old Peter Milligan X-Statix series' sometimes-guy character Vivisector. That would rock hard.

Yeah Chasm was cool and innovative this... isn't.
Chasm was a DOS game BTW. DOS game with 3Dfx acceleration! And I thought only GTA 2 allowed that.

chasm had a software renderer, and only a software renderer. many other dos games had 3dfx support (quake, tomb raider, x-wing) but chasm didn't.
if vivasector gets a stateside release, and is reasonibly priced ($20-30US), i'll pick it up. if it's full retail price i'll wait.

augh.. yuck. Don't bother with the download. Looks like a user created mod or something. Very 90's. The second level they make it all full of gas and you have to put on a mask to then navigate though?.. I uninstalled right after that.. couldn't see a thing. Stupid design.

I was under the impression that Chasm was made on the Quake engine... which would mean that maybe the tenebrae stencil shading engine-tweek would work on it.
