So wait.....I have to buy Broken Steel to gain the ability to explore the wasteland after I've finished the main quest? WTF?

Yes. I'm not sure how far along you are so I don't want to spoil anything for you.
Another awesome feature the patch introduced were several game breaking freezes! I tried playing it today and couldn't get more than ten or fifteen minutes into a play session before the game would hardlock. Thanks Bethesda! If the Pitt was any indication were in for another bug riddled mess!

No, you can just reload the autosave the game generates for you at the very end of the game and continue playing that way.

Oh sorry, should have specified. I'm having issues with the PC version of the game.
Another good call; I forgot that the game makes an autosave so your not completely boned if you forgot to save before the final confrontation.
Don't get me wrong, I might sound like a negative Nancy but I truly loved the game. Hopefully Bethesda is already at work on a fix.

If this patch makes me start all over like the rest I will stab somebody.

I really wish they'd fix the bug where at long distances the hit registers, but the damage doesn't. I'm having trouble getting my snipe on when I get my sneak attack critical but the big dude with the mini-gun is at full health and heading in my direction.

I have a feeling thats part of the reason I'm experiencing the freezes. I am not looking forward to restarting the game for the fourth time. Unless the Broken Steel DLC is shit hot I might wait until Obsidian finishes New Vegas.

Bethesda's support for the PC version seems to be sub-par. I remember that was a major VATS bug that mad many VATS related perks have no effect that they only fixed with this most recent patch, even though the issue had existed for many months but never affected the console versions of the game.
Btw, anyone heard anything about a possible 4th DLC entitled Point Look?

It would make sense if there was going to be a fourth one. Some people wondered why they didn't include Broken Steel in the $20 add-on disc version they are releasing in stores with the Pitt + Operation Anchorage. Perhaps to bundle Broken Steel with this new Point Look pack.

This at least makes me feel a bit better about procrastinating on this game, though avoiding spoilers is getting harder over time. I still need to play BioShock as well, and the sequel coverage is everywhere... bah.

I have this for the pc and even before this patch it would crash constantly since the last update. However I found out that there was a patch that was homemade that got rid of most of the issues, loaded it up and have locked up only once. I am not sure I want to upgrade to this until they upgrade the homemade patch to fix crashing issues

And where's this home made patch you speak of?
