So what kind of an approved activity was it? A photo op. A photo op involving one of the planes that serves as Air Force One.
Details on the photo shoot — except that it caused mass panic — aren’t known yet. What is known is that everyone, save the public, knew about it.

Since 9-11 no one has done these type of fly overs. It really was low would of been great if they had ya know told somebody. FYI New Yorkers tend be a fairly tough lot. I live near O'Hare AF1 flys over my house all the time kinda strange they must line up on the same runway everytime..

This was poorly conceived. The individual who approved this (Obama had nothing to do with it) should have notified the mayor and all the local broadcast news stations, in order to get the word out. People were rightly a bit alarmed, filing out of buildings and the like.

Good thing they spent who knows how much taxpayer money, burned tons of jet fuel (global warming!), and set a city-wide panic to get that photo of AF1 with the Statue of Liberty...

Or they could have gone to any half-rate digital artist and had AF1 Photoshopped into a picture with the Statue and yielded the same result for maybe $100.

Look I like Obama but fair is fair. If this happens under W the boo birds would be screaming. So it's fair that O catches shit here. I have a few contacts in the USAF and they said the flyover vs using Photoshop is due in part because the Military got pimped for altering images and have a standing order not to do so on "official photos". Sounds like BS to me but there you have it. Clearly a mistake. Clearly wrong. Glad I didn't have to wait 4 years for O to say so.

I agree it is fair that O catches shit for it, as it his administration. Just pointing out the moronic nature of our govt. in regards to this particular situation.

I would be curious as to which altered images they got in trouble for. I could not imagine it would be something as harmless as AF1 flying over the Statue.
