Team Xbox (http://www.teamxbox.com/) has posted a press release (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/9977/Tecmo-Announces-Ship-Date-for-Dead-or-Alive-4/) from Tecmo which reveals the official ship date for Dead or Alive 4 as December 29th.

TORRANCE, Calif. December 28, 2005 — Tecmo proudly announced today that Dead or Alive® 4, the highly anticipated next installment in its hugely popular fighting series, will ship to major retailers nationwide on December 29, 2005.
Better late than never, Tecmo? Anyway, at least it is official now and should end the speculation.

I thought it was going to ship on the 29th anyway?
Oh well...things seem to be rather unchanged, then.

Arg, damn Tecmo and their "one console to bind them" philosophy. What's so wrong with multi-platform releases? Not even a DOA3 for me. And yes, the same goes for other companies. At least Rockstar has the decency to release at a later date. Big game publishers, a wag of the finger for you!

nice of them to 'officially' announce the ship date of the 29th... on the 28th... ??!?!?!

They were mainly PS2 this generation, but some of their stuff did come out and flop on the Xbox. They didn't release Monster Rancher on there though, which is their biggest series excluding Team Ninja.

It's Team Ninja that only makes for one platform at a time. Theory goes that it's so they can really tune their technology and get the most out of the system they're making the game for. On the Xbox the focus on that really made their games look awesome.

DOA 4 though, from the screenshots anyway, isn't really pushing anything, maybe DOAX2 will after they get some time to write a new engine. The backgrounds in 4 look improved but the characters look pretty much the same as in DOA:U. Personally I’d like to see real-time highlights on their hair instead of painted-on stuff.

Can’t wait till Friday!

More DOA is a good thing. Now when the hell will they announce a release date for DOAXBV2...

Yeah, I wasn't happy about Namco's choice for Soul Calibur 3 either myself. I prefer multiplatform titles. Assuming of course, the game is optimized per each console, instead of designed for the lowest common denominator and then barely tweaked for the others.

I'm hoping that with this Next Gen stuff that it won't be so obvious that a title was geared towards the lowest common denominator. Some of those Xbox ports of PS2 games were painfully obvious.

IGN has a review for DOA4 up on their site. It got a 9.0

It seems in online multiplayer the speed of the game is tied to the latency, so that the game never gets laggy, it just slows down so it can keep up with how fast it’s receiving the packets. Brilliant really if it works as well as the guys at IGN say it does. They say they noticed no lag in most of their matches, but with this system how would they know unless they’re getting a LOT of lag? If it was just a little, which would normally kill a fighting game because of timing, everything would just be moving a little slower. Huh.

I'm looking forward to this one, even though I've never really loved any previous DoA titles. Played 'em all, and still play 'em today, but I've never loved any of them like I do, say, Soul Calibur or Kombat. I always feel a tremendous disconnect between my inputs and what happens on the screen.

But I play DoA and enjoy it anyway. =P

I think it makes perfectly good sense to release a game right after christmas. I know I have a pocket full of gift cards that I am looking to spend. It is this way every year. Panzer Dragoon Orta released in January and I spent a gift card to buy it. Same went for Ninja Gaiden.
