Paramount has confirmed that "Star Trek: The Animated Series" will be released on DVD.
Work is in progress for a mid-to-late 2006 release of every episode of the cartoon series, originally debuting September 8th, 1973, on the seventh anniversary of the original TV series' release, September 8th, 1966.
The DVDs may be released to coincide with the "Star Trek" 40th anniversary, September 2006.
Twenty-two original stories were produced over two seasons, with most of the original TV series cast.

May I be the first to say... whoopty-shit. First of all, who cares about the animated series? Second, they overprice Star Trek DVD's to the point that even a fan like myself who owns other series on DVD would never even consider buying them. Third, I would like to see something better done for the 40th anniversary.

It's not really a "re-launching" since it's the original series brought to DVD.
BTW, if ya went to http://www.tvshowsondvd.com regularly, you'd already know this. ;)

I kinda do. I don't think it was GREAT cartoon, but it was Trek when there was no other Trek to be had, and it's got nostalgia appeal for me, if not you younger guys. :(

www.half.com. It's your friend. ;)

No argument there. If this the biggest/best trick up their sleeve for the 40th, they can go suck a fatty.

Oh yeah.. big savings there <.< I wonder if they realize that I can get any season of any other series on DVD for about $45 from legitimate retail chains? Sometimes even cheaper.

I also agree that the ST sets are WAY too overpriced, but Paramount loves their cashola. I'm probably never going to buy any of them at their current prices.

the cartoon was poorly animated, but the stories were good. In fact, Alan Dean Foster did a very nice novelization of the cartoons.

I'm telling ya, we need a Star Trek-themed version of 'The Movies.' Take creative control away from Berman and his ratfuck cronies at Paramount and allow the fans to create their own characters, ships, and stories, then let them post the episodes online to share. Sooner or later, someone will create the magic potion that will revitalize the franchise, and then Paramount can build a new series/movie based on those characters. Make it a contest, maybe?

Oh, well I should have added you DO gotta wait a while. I ran about 6-9 months behind on the release curve for DS9, and the most I paid for any season was like $52. Most of them I paid around $35. But again, you have to be willing to wait a little while before www.half.com really pays off, but not TOO long, then supply and demand trade places again and you get the above.

Set a series on a Ferengi vessel.
It would be the most awesomest thing in TV sci-fi, ever. Better than Firefly, maybe.

Holy crap! There was an animated series? Now if it was a box set of the "Next Generation" I think it would be great. I'm not a trekie at all, but The "Next Generation" was a pretty good land-lubber-sci-fi show

Star Trek needs to stop. The last few incarnations have cheapened the franchise. Most agree.

Yeah, I too wish it would just rest for a while. Maybe not forever, but it really needs a break so those in charge can re-think and re-plan where it's going, if anywhere.

ST cartoons had at least one episode with Larry Niven's Kzin race.
For all those who played StarFleet Battles and wondered about those insanely nasty attack shuttles.

The animated series was also the first to give Kirk's middle name and the first to feature Holodecks (or "recreation rooms" as they were called then). It was damned ugly, though.
