PC Gamers wondering why the PC version of Battlefield 1943 will enjoy reading the excuse (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/227219.page) posted by EA Producer Gordon Van ****.

Dear PC Gamer(s),

I know you might feel disappointed about the PC release being in September rather than June, but you should be very happy to know this is to give us the proper development time to create a proper PC version of Battlefield 1943 and not a console port. To the contrary of some less informed fans out there this is in no means an intentional ploy to punish our PC fans. And is in fact quite the opposite, we want to make the best damn PC version we can for our PC fans!

Not to bore your eyes out with endless text about the how's and do's I will say to make this a proper PC version we need a completed core game to develop over and remember we already released Battlefield Bad Company with the Frostbite Engine on the consoles, so this will be first PC game ever released using Frostbite! PCs are an open platform requiring additional features, support, technical consideration, and can't just be thrown out there using copy/paste. We have thought very carefully about this decision and in the long run felt it was the right choice even though we knew we'd catch some flak for it, but we feel once you play the first Frostbite PC game ever from DICE you'll see why we put this extra time and care in on the development making all right again in the universe. I hope this helps clear things up better and answers your concern(s).

Sincerely,

Gordon Van **** (The company that I work for thinks my last name is naughty!)
Battlefield 1943 Producer

'Punishing PC gamers for software piracy and crying about restrictive DRM' still gets my vote.

Thanks, Roman.

You could care slightly less... you could have not posted about it. :p

As someone who has played about a thousand hours of Wake Island I'm really looking forward to this remake. It will be nice to get back to the WWII planes and away from the jets and choppers in BF2.

What I find is really missing is the subs... the naval maps were a total blast and it seems like DICE has totally forgotten that they once made naval maps.

To sad that they'll be delayed, but they always do... I too miss old time planes, I also miss taking control of the mighty battleships and carriers

There was a lot of Naval stuff in that Battlestations Midway game. I should give that one a second try. I played a bunch of the sub challenges and then I gave up on the game becaus the air-to-air challenges were just too tough.

I never even tried the single player game. LOL.

Sept. release could see additional maps bundled in the PC version for extra value methinks. Iwo Jima, Battle of Midway, Coral Sea remakes would be cool imo.

The demo for the new Battlestations Pacific is released at the end of this month, as for the old one I nearly gave up till I tried the single player. I have not finished it yet but its a lot better than those really hard missions.

Even though I have incredible '42 memories on my PC, I am really looking forward to analog stick action in Battlefield. It is going to be crazy and fun.

Yeah they are waiting a few months to get as many console sales as possible before releasing it on the pc. EA did that with the Mirror's Edge too. It's going to become the norm.

I'm still waiting for BF3.

I never really liked the gun aiming in any Battlefield game, it always felt unresponsive and disconnected. I wish a game like this could get CS:S-feeling aim implemented. That said, I couldn't imagine wanting to play this on anything other than my gaming mouse, Nostromo N52 and Saitek X45. Fighting your way out of a battle and then heading back into your base to grab a plane and strafe that son of a bitch who almost killed you with the X45 HOTS setup wets my undies.

My thoughts exactly. Hundreds of hours of Wake across 200 years. That map just never gets old.

Hundreds of hours of Wake across 200 years.

You sure do play a lot....
Also ditto on awesomeness of '42. Something about rumbling in older, non responsive things is a lot more fun and visceral.

And, not the nonresponsive controls which I thought were fine, but the nonresponsive lumbering tanks, planes, ships.

Battlefield 2 seemed to get the vehicles right, IMO.

Why is this going to be just 1200 points? Sounds like either EA is throwing away money they could be making or there is something missing from the game. Like content.

Apparently there is no offline bot play?

So 1943 is for gold members only?

I have fond memories of sniping the plane queue. Good times.

When a PC-centric series gets released on console months before on the PC, it reaks of some sort of asshattery! Oh wait, this is EA . . .

Used to love BF1942 and the old Desert Combat mod before they actually 'made' a game from it.
