Interesting note. Aeon Flux is on over 2000 screens and dropped from #10 to #20. Sadly, it made around $24M so far. When you add in international box office and the eventual DVD sales, PPV sales and Television rights, I'm sure the studio will consider it a "success".

Not suprised given how bad the movie was.
Munich in only 9th with 6mil? Ouch.. that has got to be the worst opening for a Spielberg movie ever. Was this a limited opening or something?

It was a limited release. I want to see this movie.

I want to see Munich and Syriana. Too bad theaters don't have double features anymore. I'd love to see them back to back.
Anyone seen Wolf Creek? I like horror, (though nothing good as of late) and this and Hostel look to be highly disturbing.

Do you find the Hostel ads to be appealing? Maybe it's because I'm here with my family and I've seen the same damn thing 12 times an hour on the TV (which has been constantly playing in the background), but it just... I don't know. It's an interesting concept but the ads... meh.

Not entirely, because it looks to equate horror with torture and gore. Horror is also atmosphere and tension, not just blood and guts and incredible on-screen agony. Horror that goes way over the top on the gore usually ends up digging its own grave.

Saw Kong, and I loved it. My only complaint was that at times the action was too over the top.

Kelegacy, Wolf Creek - the first half was really slow and boring, just nice happy times to juxtapose the last half of gore and torture. In the end the pay off wasn't worth it.
Thumbs down . . . skip it. It's a rental at best.
Hostel, now that looks disturbing.

Went to see that hoping Charlise Theron would bring some life to it...I've never left a movie theatre feeling as emotionally dead, untill I saw Aeon Flux. It was neither good, n or bad, but just seemed very incomplete and I had no emotional attachment to any characters. Not even hate...I would not reccomend anyone seeing this movie.
I loved Kong though. Saw it last night with the gf, and she cried at the end for Kong. She's not easy weeper either, but the critics were right for once that the movie is definitely great and might get a few ppl to shed a tear.

Yeah, I'd second your opinions about a good horror flick. I'm not a gorehound, or whatever the term is, and frankly I just get sick of it. SAW II was lame as hell, half of it was tortuous situations that just had no backing in emotional intensity, and even storywise were kind of half-hearted. I'd probably give Hostel a shot if I had any friends who were into that, but they and my girlfriend definitely aren't.

Hostel looks great, due to the trailers but also Eli Roth is behind it. Syriana was awesome and Munich looks good.

I saw Hostel at the Toronto film festival in the summer. It, if left uncut, will go down in history as one of the most visceral, horrific, terrifying and effective horror films ever made.

Just got back from King Kong. It was a great movie but holy crap on a stick was that movie long. Theater seats were not designed with the human posterior in mind!

Saw Kong twice and while the 2nd time was not as good (to be expected), I still loved it. I have to say James Newton Howard did an amzing job with his last minute replacement movie score. Just added so much depth to the emotion of the characters. For once, I did not feel ripped off buying overpriced movie tickets, in fact I felt it was a bargain.

Kong was awesome. The Big Ball of Brontesaurus was pretty silly, and they went a bit overboard with the Peril, what with everything under the sun getting giant sized and angry, but overall it was fantastic. I'd say it was a more solid movie than any of the LotR's. LotR was great because of its source material, its art direction and its casting. Kong excelled on ALL fronts (except maybe Jack Black's final line...)

I heard the special effects in Kong were great, but I saw it and was very disappointed. There were many scenes where it was obvious the actors were performing in front of a blue screen (girl in kong hand, men in middle of dinos). Lord of the Rings effects were way better, so I'm assuming a different effects studio worked on this picture. The best special effect movie this year is (IMHO) War of the Worlds, so I was kind of expecting to see near the same thing with Kong, but didn't.

If any of you get the chance, go see The Producers. That is the funniest movie that I have seen in a long, long time.

I freaking hope so. My guess is this will be yet another film I buy uncut or import.

How does it compare to the original movie? The original was freaking hilarious, so when I see ads for the new one, it actually makes me want to go back and watch the original. Then again, I liked the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and ended up liking the new version even better. I hear the two Producers movies are very different from each other like the Chocolate Factory movies. So it may still be worth watching.

Honestly, I wasnt even concieved when the old movie came out, nor have I seen it. This new movie actually based off the Broadway show that they made, which was extremely different than the first movie. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderic were the original actors in the show, and they are just as amazing on the movie. Will Ferrel? Awesome. Uma Thurman? Gorgeous. John Lovit? Same as always...

Only slightly related, but does anybody have numbers for Serenity since it got released on DVD? I'd be interested to see how it did now, as opposed to theaters.

Personally I'm just getting sick of all these Saw-type movies, which is what the trailer for Hostel reminded me of. I see it as lowering the bar for horror films. "Let's throw as much disturbing, gory torture scenes as possible and make the audience nearly throw up. That's good horror!" I have always found the most scary movies to be the ones that leave the fate of the characters to your imagination. Movies like Saw (which I refuse to see) just sicken me. I hope that "genre" of horror dies soon.
Btw, I saw Kong on Sunday night. Great movie.
Fun with Dick and Jane was a great movie, I loved it.

I liked Syrania a lot but Munich blows that movie away. I think it sucks that it's a limited release and everyone I recommend it to say "huh? never heard of it".

Here in Utah it's on the cheap screens already. Not the dollar theater but the $4 theater.

It's a fucking disgrace that a movie that gets nothing but bad reviews (tomatoe rating: 10%) can still draw such a crowd simply because it's family friendly. People need to stop seeing this shit (and Pink Panther) so that the movie companies will know not to release it and make people hate going to the theaters.
Oh, and LEAVE THE FUCKING 0-7 YEAR OLDS HOME when you go to R-rated movies.

Well, it's the number 1 DVD right now at Amazon. Wouldn't be surprised though if it's because of all those Browncoats buying 15 copies each as Holiday gifts. :D

Wolf Creek was a competently made movie, but the story was so tired that the good acting, special effects, cinematography, etc. couldn't begin to save it. The whole "tourists get tortured by insane hillbilly local" thing has been run into the ground. This one reminded me way too much of Wrong Turn, but I can remember the same plot all the way back to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and there was probably more before that. Wolf Creek just doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from all the other movies with the same story.
