Another week....another...ah hell. There's no games coming out this week and there's nothing DVD-wise coming out this week worth mentioning.

This week is a week to play with all your toys from Santa.

Damn straight! ..I finally got bored with Sid Meir's Pirates! ..which has been the only thing other than GTA to occupy me this year (as a PC gamer) and what did Santa bring me? (Well, I still had to hint to the family about this one) .."The Movies" Wohoo! I've only had it for a day, but *damn* it's fun. Make a studio, pick up actors and throw them around the place (strategically, of course) ;) ..make crummy movies. Ah, bliss.

Disclaimer: I did try to get hold of Psychonauts at one point .. morons at the game store had no clue what it was. Guess I need to dust off the credit card and get that one online.

I'm going to be watching all of Star Wars today... that's Episode I, II, Clone Wars 1/2, III, IV, V, and VI. I'm at the end of episode I right now. I believe that when it's taken as a whole, Star Wars will be much more impressive. I'll also be fiddling around with Animal Crossing DS while I'm at it.

Tried playing Makai Kingdoms this morning... maybe I'm judging it too quickly, but it seems like the characters are no where near as interesting or funny as the characters from Disgaea. So I may end up not playing that game again for quite a while. I'll try to get into some Suikoden tonight, or maybe play some more Civ IV. I'm sure I'll also be playing plenty of Jedi Academy as well, that game has had me hooked for the past week.

I played The Movies and GUN last night. I liked the graphics in The Movies, but I was getting these annoying little "pauses" every so often.

I was playing GUN on the Xbox 360, damn that game can be hard at times. I must have played the "protect the stagecoach" level a dozen times before I beat it. I beat it by bombing the hell out of the Indians (Native Americans for the politically correct) with the molotov coctails (sp?).

Does anyone else have GUN? Where the heck do you get a bow for the bow and arrows? I have a weird feeling I did something wrong and I messed up a script somewhere.

I believe you get it later during a mission. Its a few missions later from the protect the stagecoach one.

Suikoden 4? Let me know how you like it, never played it but I heard it was a bad entry into the series. Thankfully Suikoden 5 is in the works and can correct the wrongs the 4th created.

Then again, I never really liked Suikoden 3 too much, though I beat it. And I've never played much of 2, though I really should. I have a ROM file of it on my computer because it is so hard to come by--and expensive.

Have you played Phantom Brave? I hear that was a great game, up there with Disgaea, at least according to the Penny Arcade guys.

I've got Suikoden 2 for my PS1. Sadly, there's a scratch on the disc so you can't get any further that wherever I was at the 30 hour mark. Grr. I much prefered Suikoden 2 to Suikoden 3, but 3 was enjoyable. I just couldn't stand having to run across the same 2-3 environments (thank god for the teleporter girl).

My brother said that Suikoden 4 was pretty much the same as Suikoden 3 only you have a boat instead of a castle.

Phantom Brave is easily my favourite of the current batch of Nippon Ichi games. Granted, I haven't played Makai Kingdoms, but I found myself playing far more of Phantom Brave than I did of Disgaea or La Pucelle. I love those games but I always get distracted about 15 hours into them and go off to play something else. Sigh.

I hope everyone else had a nice Christmas. My hands are sore from playing DS all day yesterday. I have to stop killing patients in Trauma Centre... sigh...

Hrm... I just didn't enjoy Phantom Brave. I found that the lead characters were just too fluffy, no spine and no humor. Plus I enjoyed the mechanics of Disgaea more (dammit... I like tiles in those games). I still need to pick up La Pucelle, and I plan on doing that soon. Hopefully Disgaea II will resemble Disgaea more than Makai Kingdoms or Phantom Brave.

Is Geometry Wars good?
Geometry Wars is nutso-addictive (my Dad is leaving his 360 at my place over Xmas vacation for the kids). Such simple fun and so beautiful for an otherwise graphically simple game.

I've been try to catch up to Bapenguin, but much like your typical RTS game, I enjoy the hell out of Geometry Wars, but I really kind of suck. I'm never, EVER gonna catch him, LOL.

As for GUN, I haven't played it yet, but I've watched the kid play it... looks real good, even if it doesn't take much advantage of what the 360 can do graphically.

Alright, I'm going through the deleted scenes of Episode III right now, and am I the only one who thinks that this movie would have been MUCH more powerful if they had left in the Padme-Rebellion sub-plot? Hopefully they release a new version of the prequels some day with the deleted scenes reintegrated.

Is Geometry Wars good?

Real good. Basically, it tests your shooter skills as much (if not more) as any game you've ever played. Your eyes, brain and reflexes will be in particle effects orgy overload so drink an energy drink, soda or coffee of your choice to really get things snapping heh.

The Live leader board for this game is out of control. As of last night, the top dog had over 6 million points! Once you play the game you'll realize how sick that is. bapenguin is in the uber-class range at the moment so don't even try to catch that guy hahaha. You really have to get into a nice flow to do well with as much as they throw at you and it is well worth the 400pts for the full version.

I thought we'd have DOA4 by the end of the week (fingers crossed).

I'm thinking about picking up CoD2 for the 360 today with my Best Buy gift card since a few people here recommend it. Although Condemed might make its way into my hands.

I just watched King Kong yesterday so I should be able to break into the Production Diaries now...I was afraid I'd spoil something effects-wise if I watched them beforehand. That game is a lot of fun as well and has some replayability with website unlockables on the DVD.

It's still listed as the 28th on all the retail sites.

I don't know about the rumors on the internets but my local gamestop is scheduled to recieve it on Wednesday.

Some people may be thinking about articles regarding delays in Japan. This is the biggest release of the year for me!

I got a DS for Christmas (Mario Kart bundle) and have been enjoying the cornbread hell out of it. I got Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy 1 & 2, Advance Wars Dual Strike, Kirby Canvas Curse, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, & Meteos. I played a little Mario Kart online and that was sweet. Then I started playing Meteos. I haven't been able to play anything else since. I absolutely love playing games with the touchpad. I can't wait to get into Kirby Canvas Curse. I can easily see the DS becoming my console of choice until we get further into the next generation of consoles.

I agree wholeheartedly about Meteos. That thing devoured my Boxing Day with the family. I must have put about 5 hours into it yesterday. I can't seem to get any rare metals though... ARG!

I've been looking for some of the EvAvers on Mario Kart but so far nobody seems to have been on. I'll probably play a little later today if anyone wants to race. As for the online racing, I had a blast racing against this guy today. So many squeeker wins on my behalf... It's nice to not race against the CPU.

i don't think i'll be watching star wars for a while.

I did as well (minus the Clone Wars series), finishing at 2am...

All the Episodes 1, 2 and 3 mumbo jumbo does give more weight to some of the dialogue and actions of the characters in the sequels, but I found it also caused some problems as well. For instance, the final confrontation between Darth Vader and Obi Wan in A New Hope should have been far more emotional and intense given how much Anakin had come to despise Obi Wan.

Anyway, though it was good to see them in a row, I reckon it also makes it even more obvious how much better the old ones are. The actors in the prequels seem to be trying their hardest to 'be' their characters, but in the sequels the actors ARE their characters. The sequels' humour is all character driven as well, opposed to the new ones' ridiculous puns and slapstick comedy. The old ones actually look far more realistic effects-wise as well (for the most part).

Whoops I'm ranting...

Episode 2 has aged really poorly, even though it is not that old. I saw it again recently, and the effects looked really crappy. I could hardly believe it. They may as well used claymation for as bad as the aliens looked.

Heretic Machine
12-27-2005, 01:26 PM
Well... after watching all of them, I can honestly say that I like the prequels better than the first time I saw them. But Episode II and Episode IV are still pretty weak and pretty damn boreing most of the way through... But Episode II redeems itself with the last twenty or so minutes. The main problems I have with Episode II are how drawn out parts of the story are, and how quickly they tried to angst up Anakin. Wouldn't it of been better to see a slow transition from the child to the adolescent?

Episode III -needs- it's deleted scenes to be reintegrated. I don't know what they were thinking when they took that stuff out. They basically killed half the story. Also, despite many people's hate of the additions to the original trilogy, I actually found myself more touched by the appearence of New-Anakin at the end of ROTJ than the old Anakin. I guess it's because I spent two movies with New-Anakin, and only about a minute with old Anakin.

Am I the only one of the opinion that instead of doing these "Special Editions" that they should of just pushed for a complete remake of the old trilogy? That way the purists could have their movies, and we could also have a set of films more consistent with the prequels, rather than a bastardization which compromises both. Not to mention that Lucas could make another bundle of money off them.

We're doing the Star Wars-a-thon thing also. After four episodes my wife has turned into a Star Wars junkie!

After "A New Hope" she came into the bedroom wearing a long black gown from Victoria's Secret, claimed her name was "Quenn Sideous" and said she would seduce me over to the dark side. I said "baby, I've been trying to get into your darkside since I met you". :D

But you should see HIS darkside ;) it's darker than dark :D

Think Wookiie

Am I the only one of the opinion that instead of doing these "Special Editions" that they should of just pushed for a complete remake of the old trilogy? That way the purists could have their movies, and we could also have a set of films more consistent with the prequels, rather than a bastardization which compromises both. Not to mention that Lucas could make another bundle of money off them.

That may not be a bad idea but who in God's name would you get to replace Harrison Ford as Han Solo?! And who is the modern day smooth ass pimpin' Colt .45 drinking mofo that could play Lando? Do NOT say Samuel L. Jackson.

...and considering ordering an imported copy of GT Legends (http://www.gt-legends.com/home_en.php) from GoGamer.
Oh yeah, GT Legends looks amazing. I tried out the demo, but my gaming rig isn't quite up to its needs. :( ..I watch the trailer occasionally, just to drool. ;)

I re-watched the Star Wars stuff these holidays too, and got the girlfriend into it ..I was disappointed to see the new, younger Anakin as a 'ghost' at the end of Episode 6 though. Why did he have to screw with that bit huh? Surely if Obi-Wan is old, shouldn't Vader be?

I don't want any more remakes. It'll just get screwed with more. ..It's nice to watch the deleted scenes and just know about what Padme was doing in the background, but to add it in we might as well just remove the light-sabre battles and rename it to West Wing 4000, y'know? :D (I'd like the beginning bit where General Grievous kills the captured Jedi girl to be back in tho.)

I played The Movies and GUN last night. I liked the graphics in The Movies, but I was getting these annoying little "pauses" every so often.
Yeah, I was getting that too. At first I thought it was coz I was had two background tasks compressing video, but it did it a little next time too. I guess after months of Half Life 2 pauses I stopped caring about such things. ;) Besides which, this game freaking *rocks* ..I'm just so addicted. I love it on so many levels. I had a quick sleep in the evening, woke up again at midnight and played it again until 10:30 in the freaking morning. Haven't been that hooked for a *long* time. (Silent Storm only ever had me up till 4 or 5am.) :D

Can you make cheesy 80's style horror movies with this game? I've asked a few different times, but no one seems to know. :D
I haven't reached the 80's era yet, but I don't see why not. Maybe you can't do the hard-core blood and gore stuff (perhaps you could add that in post yourself?) but all the cheesy overacting and tacky sets are perfect IMHO. (the screams are adequate, but you might want so sample some of your own to loop in.)

That's what happens when a thread gets hijacked by people planning the best way to integrate the two Star Wars trilogies.

Me, I say they should forget about redoing the movies already out (although a DVD with the original trilogy sans 'special edition' tweaks would be nice). What would rock would be a 4-5 movie series (or a TV series) adaptation of the New Jedi Order books. Those really reinvigorated the Star Wars universe for me much more than the latest batch of movies did.

I really don't want Lucas to get any more money from the Star Wars trilogy,...especially if it means redoing classics to be consistent with his recent bastardizations...that's blasphemy, and I'm not even a star wars freak.

I hated Ep I so much...my friends could not stand or even understand why I didn't like it...until they got 2 years between it...then I heard some agreement...ep I and ep II have so many bad parts, tehy should have rereleased that Endor tv movie in the theatres and put EP I and EP II on as a miniseries.
