Happy Christmas! 2005 was a fantastic year for Evil Avatar.com and I want to express my gratitude to both my staff and my readers for the great news items, interesting discussion and constant support.
I'm sure 2006 is going to be an even bigger roller coaster ride with the release of the Nintendo Revolution, Playstation 3 and more games than we can count!
Thanks for everything. Now, I'm off to wrap presents. Shhh... is that Santa?

Seriously, the build quality on the power suppy is amazing. I got the UV sensative one to go with my trio of UV CCT lights.
I'm still deciding on a case. My b-day hits on Jan 1. and in the ensuing weeks, I'll be assembling my new system.

And the removable power cords? A stoke of genius. Also, it gets a continuous current, is fairly quiet, and is the goddamned prettiest power supply I have ever seen. Seriously, the damned thing is beautiful.

Family has been downsizing on the Christmas thing the past few years. I still buy for the parents, and they buy a couple things for me; but we do not do nearly as much as we have in the past. It's nice, as then I am not broke for the next three months.
I ended up with some nice gifts though. Parents bought me a few DVDs, and at the family gathering I got some nice additions to my tool set and a few 'joke' gifts. All in all, Christmas is more of an excuse to get together, eat, and drink now.

My haul was smaller than it typically is, in terms of sheer bulk...but I certainly wasn't mistreated, either.
The gifts of note are my XBox 360 w/ Kameo, the complete Calvin & Hobbes collection and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
We opened our gifts on Christmas Eve; since my parents do the whole church thing, we would have had to wait until this afternoon to actually open gifts. When you tack on the length prep time for the meal...we just decided it'd be more expediant to open them a tad early.
Hell, I wasn't going to complain...especially after I got my 360!
Merry Christmas...BAH! Humbug!

I might go out and buy a DS w/ Mario Kart package tomorrow. I received some nice stuff for Xmas, but nothing gaming related (besides my Boom Chair I won from the EvAv Holiday Giveaway). I am of the age where I buy what I want during the year and don't ask for much gaming stuff for Xmas. However, on Xmas Eve morn I had a dream about playing a DS. At that second I realized I should have asked for something to play with on Christmas morning...that's why I loved Xmas as a child: I had something to do and look forward to! Now I just sit around and argue with the family (fun arguing, great banter) and played with the Tungsten E2 I bought my mother for Xmas--wishing I had asked for a goddamn DS. Oh well, now I'm home and will crank out some gaming a bit later, set up my new leather writing/PC gaming/desk chair and also my Boom Chair. I don't have much room, but I sat in the chair already and it felt pretty nice. I fear the black velvet-feeling material will be adorned with cat hair before I know it (though he's mostly black with only a bit of white, it never fails) so I'll need to get a lint roller.
Happy Holidays everyone.
P.S.- I had Lulu Press self-publish a book for me filled with 20 of my best short stories I've written over the past 5 years and gave it to my mother. She cried.

You and me both. I got just enough in cash & gift cards to cover the cost of one of those shiny red DS's. I'm pretty sure they won't be sold out at the local EB (which is where all my cards are from) so I'll be hitting the mall first thing in the morning.
I'll probably pick up Meteos, Mario & Luigi and Advance Wars while I'm at it. That, plus my Phoenix Wright and Trauma Centre and the Mario Kart will make me very happy for the rest of the week.
Otherwise, it was a rather game free Christmas. Heck, it was a rather DVD free Christmas too. I did get some nice books, the Tragically Hip Hipeponymous 'box set' and the original 1953 War Of The Worlds on DVD. Otherwise, mostly clothes and gift cards. But it was a good day for my little guy and aside from the nasty bump on his head from falling into the side of a coffee table at his great-grandma's, he had a blast on this, his second Christmas.
I love your idea for self-publishing a book of short stories. I'm going to get to work this year and seriously write during the year. I'm going to do that for my mom either on her birthday or by Christmas. Great idea.
I hope everyone else had a great Christmas and didn't eat too much turkey!

Yeah, looks like I'll be getting a cherry red system as well. Walmart.com has a deal for about 159 I think, plus a bonus accessory. Too bad you cant do in store pickup, as EB and WalMart are really the only places near me (besides Sam's, I don't know if they have DS deals though) that would carry the system, but EB doesn't even offer any deals, according to their website.
I'll probably just get the free game included, Mario Kart, but I sure would like to play something like Phoenix Wright. I have Nanostray from that contest I won earlier this year, but I might pick up the rest of them used. I'm a wicked cheapskate. I don't know if I'll go out tomorrow or the next day, because I'm sure the crowds will be awful.
On another note, I can't get my Boom Chair to work. I plugged in everything, but there is no video composite cable included with the chair, which sucks. Also, the audio composites are REALLY short and I will have to buy longer cables or an module adapter if I want to play seriously on it. I did try hooking up just the red/white composites and just keep the yellow composite that comes with the system (I used the Gamecube and PS2 for testing here) plugged in and removed the red/whites and plugged the BoomChair's in instead, but though I have video I cannot get any audio nor any vibration feedback. I think I'm done messing with it for now, because I'm getting frustrated and I've been putting away Christmas presents all evening. Maybe I'll try again in the future, but right now I'm putting it back in the box, counting to 10, savoring a mug of great kaffe from my new Gevalia kaffe maker, and plopping down on the couch. Kelegacy tired.

This is just a response to Evil's Bonus points thing:
Because it was originally Happy in Twas the Night Before Christmas?
We read that last night, along with a Alvin, The Little Lost Angel, Big Bird's Christmas, and A Christmas for Bears. Best...Fictional...Christmas Story.
Merry Christmas to everyone (even if you don't celebrate it...as Colbert said it's like inviting a foreign exchange student to a 4th of July BBQ).
I got Mario Kart DS, and a wireless router. I'll post my friend code when I can connect:P. Dragon Quest VIII, We <3 Katamari, and a certificate entitling me to Mega Man X Collection (stupid last minute delay). Also, a watch, Friends Season 8, a Brett Favre Jersey...and a handful of other things.
One thing I asked for was money towards a computer. I know the average budget for Christmas, in the 500 range. Well...it wasn't in my pile this morning. I hoped my dad was pulling a fast one and it was gonna be the suprise present he brought out later on, like he's done the last 2 years. And sure enough, $200 towards a computer. Let's just say it was over 500 this year :P.
I hope everyone had a great day. Get to see my grandparents tomorrow!

Had my Christmas a week back, since I'm doing some nice overtime holiday work for the $$$.
Not much of a haul this year, of note is a history book for my hometown that I'm looking forward to reading, a large collection of towels and $75 in EB Games gift cards, which I used to pick up Battlefield 2. Other than that, no DVDs or games to speak of. Maybe next year I'll try to push a list on my family more. ;)

Heh, I ask myself that all the time. I figure people are scared I either already own said game, or that they'll buy me a shitty game, or that it'll simply cost too much ($60 Canadian for a new title is pretty steep for a game that might suck balls).

I got really lucky this year, and I want to thank my guys that read here again. Happy New Year to all as well, as from here on in, it's going to be a shit show at the store, and I won't have alot of time to post. Viva la commerce, I guess.

I hear ya. My relatives won't buy me games because they, and I quote, 'would be supporting my habit'. Like their NOT buying me games will stop me from buying them myself and playing them. Heck, a couple years ago I got a shirt for Christmas. That's it. A shirt. I still talk about the Christmas of the Shirt.
Sheesh.
At least my wife has started encouraging people to get me gift cards for EB since I won't have to spend my own money that way.
Speaking of which, I went out and hit the Boxing Day sales and picked up my shiny red DS with Mario Kart DS plus Mario & Luigi, Meteos (friggin' addictive game!) and Metroid Pinball to go along with my Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center.
That is one awesome piece of hardware, I have to say. I'm super happy to finally have a DS. My brothers both picked up PSP's, which is a nice unit, but when I look at my stack of 6 awesome games (and I don't even have Advance Wars or Animal Crossing, let alone some of the more obscure DS titles) compared to their.. what... Metal Gear Acid and Liberty City Stories... well, I'm happy with my choice.
That, and I'm too poor to get both a PSP AND games for it.
It's wierd though. I had never actually seen a PSP unit in person until I saw my brother's unit. Today, as I was wandering the mall, I must have seen about 4-5 people playing (or watching) their PSP on mall benches, etc. Go figure.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I know I certainly did, although I'm still recovering from the shock factor. I only got one thing this year, but my family and pretty much all of my friends all put in money to get me a rather beautiful Gibson ES-355. Pure. Guitar. Heaven.

Hey Spigot, I'm gonna pick one up this week I think, and you will have to play some online Mario Kart with me. I have no WiFi hotspots near me (and even if I did, I wouldn't game in a public place like that for hours on end) so I am going to order a wireless USB adapter from Nintendo for my PC (35 bucks plus 5 goddamn dollars s/h) so I can play here at my place. We can even have some Animal Crossing fun if you want, but it all depends if you have broadband internet.
I'll let you know when I get it, if I get it, because I wont be able to use WiFi until I get the adapter. I am starting to wonder if a router would be the right way to go, but I have no knoweledge of such stuff.

I do indeed have broadband. Can you buy the adapter in stores or do you have to order it from Nintendo? As much as I'd love to get one, it is a wee bit pricey ($35? US Dollars? I can get a game for cheaper!)
I don't have Animal Crossing... yet. I'll probably get it for my birthday but that won't be for a few months. I have to keep myself from buying anything else for the thing for the next while as my credit card is already oozing some kind of debt-juice.
I highly recommend getting Meteos. I have been playing it for the last, oh, 4 hours... I can't stop! ARG! It's hella fun, as the kids say.

No, just through Nintendo directly. Yes, it sucks, and though my finances are doing well, I seem to be bleeding cash these days. It's ridiculous. I have been pondering whether or not it's prudent to even get a DS right now, but I have to return a few articles of clothing, a cappuchino maker, and maybe a watch (goddamn thing was supposed to be water proof!) so I'll have a bit of "free" dinero around. If there was a better way to play online here at my place I'd do it, but 35 bucks might be a good investment if it means I can play Mario Kart ONfuckingLINE!
Let me know if you do any random murders for hire and get a sudden influx of cash, so we can play together. I don't even own a DS yet and after I take a look at my bank account and assess my future bills that are coming up, I might take the plunge. It's not that I don't have the money, it's that I'm incredibly cheap. Really, retirement should be bliss for me because I make Scrooge McDuck look like a spendthrift.

Merry Christmas!
Mrs. Avatar made Prime Rib last night. It came out great. Today we will head over to the Grandparents for the Turkey!
I read that as Metroid Prime Rib. I think my brain is extra damaged.
The gifts of note are my XBox 360 w/ Kameo, the complete Calvin & Hobbes collection and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
You're awful lucky. If I hadn't picked up M&L I'd have three good reasons to kill you.

Just get the router. The nintendowifi.com site has a list of recommended routers, and you can just pick one up at any old retailer. Don't forget to add your name to the list (see sig).

I just did some research and, while some sites seem to describe how to setup a wireless router, I am still a little leery. I am a very fast learner but I have a feeling I'd royally mess something up. I'll think about it, but a quick consultation with my Magic 8-Ball produced "Outlook Not So Good".

Thanks Mr. Slim. I'll have a look at that shortly. The less extra cash I have to shell out, the happier I am. I already have a wireless router at home... maybe it's time to turn it on :)
As for the DS, I had to stop playing it because my hands were cramping up from playing all friggin' day long. I'm sitting here at my grandparents-in-law's place, 30 extended family members around and I've had my nose in that crazy clamshell for, what, 8 hours now? Arg! Meteos and Mario Kart are evil enough... I'm scared to see how addicted I'll get to Phoenix Wright & Trauma Center when I get back home and crack them open... I'm VERY scared of Mario & Luigi...
Fantastic little piece of hardware Nintendo has come up with. I think my particular unit might have two dead pixels on the upper screen but I'm not sure if I should bother trading it in for a new one or not. I don't even notice them 99% of the time. Is this a common thing or should I go swap it later?
Just curious.
(edit:ah, just realized I could hook up via any wireless connection... sigh)

Hey man. How the hell are you? :D
I usually read EA every day. (you've done a ton of great work here btw... gratz) I've just been lazy about posting. I work a lot these days and I'm married now (to a girl I met in AC2). I was spending most of my spare time playing DAoC, WoW and AC2. AC2 was actually a pretty good game after the expansion... perfect time to shut it down. Turbine = bite nose off (think JAWS) to spite face. I quit all three of them a few weeks ago... sick of mmos. So, I have the week off and was thinking of trying another one of those damn games.... SW Galaxies. :P
Wow man...that's crazy. Congrats! Feels like forever ago since we were playing AC2 together.

Wow man...that's crazy. Congrats! Feels like forever ago since we were playing AC2 together. Thanks man. :) It has been a while since we played AC2 together. You did not miss much... bugs, more bugs, excuses, more bugs, more excuses, more bugs, finally getting good, shut it down.
I also played DAoC and WoW since then. DAoC is a decent game that has lost some of its kvk luster with lower populations. WoW was a fun game but it had more than its fair share of bugs and glitches. That, and the pve in WoW is just way too easy.

Do NOT get Star Wars Galaxies. I used to think it was a decent game, but I recently came back to check out the changes and it's one of the most unplayable pieces of trash I've ever seen. Load times are constant, and unruley, combat is boreing, the equipment system is assanine (all weapons do the same damage, the damage output is entirely dependant on your character) and character development seems to of died. It's a shame really, they used to have a good little Star Wars MMO going...
So I just bought Metroid pinball, Advance Wars and FF IV advanced for my DS. I must say it's an impressive little gaming gadget. Going to pick up Castlevania when I see it.
Also set up the Tivo I got for Christmas, another impressive device. Not sure why I am so late on that bandwagon.

I picked up Advance Wars DS today and it's pretty fun. I scoured the greater Sarnia area but couldn't find a single copy of Animal Crossing DS ANYWHERE. Grr... I want to get it, but I'm also trying to resist its siren's call. I played far too much of it on the Cube and having it portable sounds like a recipe for disaster.
