Cheat Code Central is first out of the gate with a review (http://www.cheatcc.com/pc/rev/demigodreview.html) of Gas Powered Games' new strategy game, Demigod. It received an overall rating of 4.3/5.
Demigod's single-player mode is essentially the same as its multiplayer offerings, only you'll play with and against A.I.-controlled demigod bots of varying intelligence instead of humans. The multiplayer focus and a lack of a more traditional, story-driven solo campaign may not sit as well with all players, but the streamlined action-RPG gameplay proves to be seriously addictive in short bursts. The development team managed to inject a surprising level of gameplay depth into such a pared-down RTS design, and it works out.

4.3? Seriously? Why not a 4.2, or a 4.4? Just seems random.
I'm kinda interested in this one, even though I wasn't really engaged by GPG's other titles. Have to grab the demo of this sucker.

I picked this up earlier but haven't tried it yet. I've been hearing both good and bad things about it but I tend to like these types of games. Hopefully it won't be a disappointment.

I'm wanting this really bad too. Just waiting to see how it really is, if there was a demo and I liked it I'd probably be playing the full release right now.

Well I bought it today and I am enjoying it immensely... The Demigods are quite unique, I'm actually having difficulty picking a favorite.

If you guys like Demigod you should try out the Warcraft 3 custom map Dota. I play the crap out of Dota.

I second that: this is supposed to be a shameless DOTA clone. Interested in this game but not enough to buy I think. Not when dota is free :)

If the site used scores out of 100 and gave it an 86, would you be asking why not 84 or 88?

If htey didn't have some sort of score breakdown, I would, yeah...

Its funny but an obscure rather high score seems to fit perfectly. I agree with @RMan in that I also have never liked a GPG title but this one seems somewhat intriguing. The demo video that I watched was a good way to introduce the concept and didnt seem like tons of polygons to display how many unit customizations you can create or an action rpg title with decent graphics, a weak camera and no soul.
I also like the no copy protection and stardock distribution. A good demo could really push this one over the edge but so many things to play it still seems like one of those titles I could enjoy in multiplayer but not enough to leave what Im already engaged in. Still it could be one of those weekend afternoon impulse purchases that fits the right game at the right time formula for something different.

I've just played a few single skirmishes against the AI and I gotta say I'm liking it. It just has a quick, easy feel almost like a fast paced chess game. I was playing the Rook and enjoying his huge hammer just droppin' death on the enemy minions. I still don't understand some of the aspects of the game but a few mor matches should ease me in to them.
So far a thumbs up from me.

Demo goes after the full game gets released, so says GPG.

Really? 4.2 or 4.4 seems less random that a 4.3? Do even numbers just make you happier? What if it just wasn't quite worth a 4.4? Should they only go in half points? Granted, it's no Evil Eye rating system, but it gets the message through.

Im having nothing but issues with this game.
Menus are really sluggish, something to do with firewall or ports. Still working on it,
at the moment, i can't play online cause the delays are far to long in the menus
Video Card Drivers crash after 10min of play and have to restart.
All in all, i regret buying it for these issues

The initial inspiration for Demigod was heavily based on the Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients.

Ah, you're one of those people who quotes only the portion that supports your argument. Too bad you didn't quote those portions that negate yours and support mine:
Defense of the Ancients could almost be described as a game where two rivers are flowing against each other. Each player is trying to get their river to make headway against their opponent's river until the flow enters their base. My analogy may not make sense unless you've played DotA. But if you have, you probably get my meaning. Demigod does not play quite like that.
So it's definitely fair to say that DotA served as inspiration for Demigod. But Demigod will ultimately be somewhat different in play style. So, no--it's not a "shameless DOTA clone."

Sounds like it's Sins of a Solar Empire since it doesn't have much of a story beyond killing off the competition and becoming number one and the fact that the single player and multi player are the same thing (AI vs. Real). If that's the case I'm getting it.

The 'no story' for me is a problem :(
I like a good campaign and some good cut scenes.

Well I bought it because it is a DotA clone really... I used to play DotA but the thing just got out of hand, with other players becoming so obsessive about it they would just ruin the fun for me (such as constantly yelling at the new players and rage quitting so hard it blew me off the net ^_^), however in Demigod things carry over from match to match. I especially enjoy that part, where playing (in any mode it seems) earns focus points, which you can use to purchase items in a match, which can then be carried over to the next match. (You can only have one of these focus items equipped in a match, but once you buy them you can "buy" them in the next match for free). In addition it seems like you can develop alot of great tactics and strategy playing off other peoples demigods/item/power combinations. All in all, two big thumbs up, my brother and I will hopefully be taking our game online to see what havoc we can rain down on other players, though I hear right now the online is somewhat stunted by poor networking.

Yeah, when I tried to play DotA, that's exactly what I encountered... I was new, I needed time to learn, but every game I joined was the same douchebag purists. I decided never to return.

Most of my friends played DotA as well, but I got into it rather late comparitively. I tried playing online with a couple of them at various points, but I'd encouter the very same newb-rage and quit.
Eventually, we started abusing our university's computer labs late at night and LAN games there...DotA started getting some play time. Unfortunately, I encountered the very same rage from my friends. Most didn't have the patience to teach the handful of us that hadn't played it nearly as much and instead just expected us to play at their level.
I liked what I saw of the game, but I loathe the players. Demigod looks like a fuller, fleshed out version of DotA which really appeals to me...I'm just hoping it doesn't have the same vile playerbase.

Thats one of the problems with DotA - the learning curve. Another thing are the rage quitters, kids who disconnect and the abusive whiners. I want try out demigod though.

The success of Demigod will depend on weather or not the DotA community get behind it IMO..
