Thanks to Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) for this news (http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/22/zelda-twilight-princess-can-play-on-revolution-controller/) on Twilight Princess taking advantage of the Revolution controller, as well as confirming a November 2006 release date for Revolution.
From the article: "NGC can exclusively reveal that Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console’s unique controller. Zelda will actually ‘bring in’ the Revolution by launching fairly close to the new system, which is set to be released around November of next year, according to our sources."
I fear this is another Zelda delay in disguise, masked by exciting news.
Thanks thecrazyd for submitting this as well

Nobody minds a 11 month delay? You've got to be kidding me. Absolutely retarded move, either there's no way the game can be that far from done, or it was never even near done to begin with. Another Valve if this is true.
Hopefully just some silly rumor.

No, actually it's something I said in a forum post a while ago. This is going to be a launch title for the Revolution because it's a system seller and why not put a premier title on a new system that will draw people into buying it than putting it on the all-but-dead GCN? I think this is a very smart move...

Eh. I was excited about this game. Then it got pushed back to far and I just let myself forget about it. I'm not planning on getting excited about it again until a firm release date has been set. It's easier this way.

Am I the ONLY one who wishes they would cancel this for the Cube, upgrade what could be upgraded and launch with a big BANG on the Revolution?
I got my Zelda's Fix on the Cube already - WW, OoT: Master Quest, I even paid $75 for the Collector's Edition with Majora's Mask, and Four Swords Adventures (BEST 2D Zelda ever. Beats ALttP, Minish Cap and even Link's Awakening).

how bout a zelda 1.5 6 mos later with upgraded graphix? hell how bout a redux version of kart 64?? Kart Allstars is what they need, improved graphics of all the kart games in one package just like the venerable SNES super mario allstars.
woah offtopic..
I personally think this sucks, but dont ever let nintendo fool you that they're here for the kids.. just another classic business move for them..
hmm always seems like zelda always gets the hugest delays.. ive never seen any other nintendo game get such treatment over its history.

Have you played Mario Kart for the DS? It has tracks from every Mario Kart game, including the GameCube one. The graphics are pretty nice too, at least for a handheld.
It even has "MOO MOO Farm!"

I never understood why nintendo never released 2-3 mario games for n64 or gamecube. They are some of the best games ever made but they only make one every 4-5 years......
Mean while nes had 3, and super nes had 2 didnt it? I am not counting spin offs like yoshi, wario, super smash, party, or the sports titles.

Because Nintendo doesn't enjoy shitting out sequels with trivial upgrades. Plus they need to diverisy their lineup on their own due to the smaller 3rd party lineup.

First there were only two mario games for the NES, realistically. SMB2 was another game that had Mario characters hacked into it.
There was only ONE Mario game for the SNES, the sequel to that game was Super Mario World 2: Yohi's Island and of course Yoshi was the main character.
If you read the book Game Over, it clearly states Nintendo usually will do one version of Mario or Zelda per system. The rest will be offshoots like soccer, Kart.
They do not want to have three iterations of Mario of Zelda per generation as they see it as devaluing the main franchise. They don't consider the soccer, or kart games as being related to the main franchise.
They also like to enter into a genre first, then leave as the competition enters that genre and the water starts to get bloody. But return to that genre, atleast once per generation.
Nintendo is a lot smarter than 99% of people here give them credit for. I mean look at the spanking the DS is giving the PSP. Can the same thing happen with the Rev. Looks like it.

I have felt that they were going this way for a while now. Sure, they are not breaking their word...Zelda will be a Gamecube title and be playable on the Cube. But, at the same time, it can be a launch title for the Revolution. I currently do not have a Cube of my own, but would have bought one by now if not for the fact that the Revolution will be backwards compatible with the Cube (let alone every other Nintendo system!) I will be getting the Revolution when it comes out, but if the new Zelda launches with it, I will be getting both on launch day for sure.

So if they're throwing compatibility with the new controller into Zelda, how can that controller not be a gimmick? Are they going to rewrite the whole game now? Or instead of blocking with your shield using the B button, now you tilt a little to the left. I seriously hope they're taking extra time with these changes.

For some reason, Electronic Gaming Monthly said in the last issue that the game would end up being shifted to the Revolution. Yet looky here:
http://cube.ign.com/articles/665/665351p1.html
Revolution compatibility? Yes. Exclusive? Hell no. This is a GC title.
Nintendo has stated in the past that it will delay the release of a new system in order to maximize sales of a current system. Although the Gamecube is not selling as well as they like, the system is still quite affordable. Nintendo is sticking by what it knows and this latest move with Twilight Princess does not surprise me. The release of this Zelda will help move new Revolution systems as well as give Gamecube sales a boost. I also predict that the Gamecube will likely see one more major bundle before bowing out next year.

No. Quality over quantity. Look at Halo 2. It's half a game, really. We wouldn't put up with that shit with Zelda.

As much as I enjoy The Wind Waker, i felt the same way - It felt like half of a zelda game (it had two dungeons chopped off from its length.) that was articially lengthened by the Triforce pieces and overly large ocean. It was still an amazing game, it just didn't captivate me as much as others for some reason.
Every single nintendo system has had at least *two* zelda games, with the exception of the Super NES.
NES: Zelda 1, Zelda 2
SNES: Zelda: Link to the Past
Gameboy/color: Zelda Links Awakening, Zelda Link's Awakening DX, Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Zelda: Oracle of Ages
N64: Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Zelda: Majora's Mask
Game Boy Advance: Zelda Link to the Past + 4 swords, Zelda: Minish Cap, Zelda 1 (classic gameboy line)
Gamecube: Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zelda: Four Swords Adventure, Zelda OOT/MQ, Zelda: Collection (zelda 1, zelda 2, OOT, MM) and (soon to come) Zelda: Twilight Princess + Gameboy player (allows one to play all Gameboy/color/advance zelda games)
The gamecube has the ability to play every single zelda game ever release. Of which there are quite a few in number.
If Miyamoto wants to delay Twilight Princess so he can make it the "best zelda ever", he can go ahead. The delay doesn't bug me, as i have other things to play.
I've been expecting TP to launch simultaneously with the revolution for a while, and I had some idea's of the revolution controller working for minigames in it, or maybe some revolution specific textures/enemy models. We shall see what actually happens. (Revolution Controller for the fishing minigame?)

Well, judging from the "OH BOY!!" response an 11 month delay is getting, I guess they might as well delay the next Mario they've been talking about for so long to the Rev as well. Why not? I'm sure Nintendo fans will love them for it. It might as well be confirmed.
I really, honestly, don't understand how you people can be excited about holding back what should be a finished game and then saying you'll GLADLY buy the next console for that same game we /should/ have been playing this year. I suppose many of you see them as making it the "best Zelda evar", but myself I expect it to sit on the shelf for 8 months, then they'll add some controller gizmos, a month for marketing, and launch.
I guess we don't even need to play the game. We can just keep continually imagining it to be the best game evar. It must be part of Nintendo's magic. Who needs graphics when you can imagine the graphics and the gameplay for 11 months? The best games you'll never get to play. Now they just need to figure out how to make some more money off imagination, but I guess free press, Gamecube, and Revolution sales in the mean time is working well.

Man some people obviously woke up to fecal matter in their particular brand of cereal, I don't think people are celebrating just saying 'meh I'll live' or 'there are plenty of games to play in the mean time'. If it comes out for GC with Rev functionality so much the better we all win, of course no one wants to wait 11 months but I am not that fussed. I am not going to get my knickers in a knot just because a game got delayed.

That's exactly what I was thinking; the first thing I thought when I heard about the Rev controller was "how will the next Zelda play?" I wasn't exactly picturing TP being played with it.
The application of the Rev controller will take some time to design and implement, and if the Rev launch is 11 months away, does anyone really want them wasting their time and resources creating a control scheme for a GC game that by their own admission will be released 8 months prior to the Rev? I'd personally prefer they work on the next-gen games instead.

I'm confused, the article suggests the Revolution is coming out in Nov 2006. Then it says "Zelda will actually ‘bring in’ the Revolution by launching fairly close to the new system" but then at the end it says the title is on track for Spring 2006 for the GC.
Does "fairly close" mean 6 months?

Am I the ONLY one who wishes they would cancel this for the Cube, upgrade what could be upgraded and launch with a big BANG on the Revolution?
No. I want to play it with the controller it was designed for. Playing the N64 Zelda's with the GC controller was annoying but workable. Playing the SNES Zelda's with the N64 controller would have been annoying. And those are fairly small changes. This major a controller change would change the dynamic too much. They should just put out TP for the GC and build a new Zelda around the new controller.
Have you played Mario Kart for the DS? It has tracks from every Mario Kart game, including the GameCube one. The graphics are pretty nice too, at least for a handheld.
The GC tracks have been reduced a bit though. Some of the shortcuts are removed.

It's been announced, for the GBA. US release hasn't been confirmed though. I'd like them to get around to releasing 1+2 first, though.

No, no and no.
For those of us that hated and despised WW, we have been awaiting a true Zelda for the Cube since the Cube's release. I'm sorry but I cannot stand cell shading, the technology it self is asthetically unpleasing to me. Add to the fact I really didn't care for anime style Kid Link. I wanted what Twilight Princess is, to be WW, but it wasn't. So now we get that, in Twilight Princess.
Out of the 'console wars' Nintendo is the only thing that's kept me in it. While some games of PS/Xbox are nice, I wouldn't buy them soley for those games. Nintendo, I might depending apon the titles. However if they pushed T.P. back to a Rev launch, a year from now, they won't get my money for a Revolution (nor would I fall back onto something like PS3 or Xbox2).

Maybe, and maybe not. Nintendo is famous for long-term delays; did anyone really expect TP to be released anywhere near the intial timeframe?
Plus, I still think that it's a bad idea to add an entirely different control choice to a (according to nintendo's fanboys) finished game with an already-established control scheme. Games for the Rev are going to need to be developed with the Rev controller in mind. This game might be playable with the Rev controller, but it probably won't be all that fun.
This game will play best on the GC controller.

I think the best plan for them would be to delay it and make it a Revolution launch title. If the rumors are true about the hardware being nearly the same as the Game Cube’s than they could probably port it over fairly quickly, complete the game as-is, and give it higher res textures and higher poly models.
That may get me to buy a Revolution depending on what the new controls are like.

Am I pulling what out of my ass, the notorious delays of first-party Nintendo titles, the fact that Rev games are by their very nature going to be drastically different than anything before it, or the part where I said that a GAMECUBE game will play better on a GAMECUBE controller?

With you use the GCN controller or the Revstick? I cannot fathom how to use the revolution controller with Zelda - which is more frightening for the Revolution's future than anything. If the thing works and is fun thats great - but how will humands interface with what we consider "Normal" game types such as an Action RPG?
Is there a notable difference between a functioning and nonfunctioning toothbrush?
All toothbrushes get an IQ test when they are made at the factory, the ones who score poorly never make it to become functional toothbrushes and are sacrificed to appease the big tooth in the sky. Seriously dude, just some basic education is needed to pick this stuff up...

Um, no. Tingle was introduced in Majora's Mask.
Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ee!!
Hear that? That was my point wooshing past you. You appear to have missed it.
The point being that last time Nintendo gave a major Zelda game the CONNECTIVITY treatment (because folks, that's what it is) - we got Tingle as a result. And that he was about as well received as Jar Jar Binks.
Your point seems to challenge me saying when Nintendo unleashed the detestable green nonce onto gamers.
I wonder.. ..did you deliberately miss the point?

Oh I'm sorry I didn't think of connectivity, since this has nothing to do with conectivity. One console or the other.

i actually enjoyed playing as tingle on WW (as much as i don't want to admit it). It helped out alot as i could just bomb what ever goblin was stupid enough to come to a little kid that just killed his ten friends.

I actually kind of hope that whenever Zelda is released its alongside the Rev launch. That's going to solve my problem of how I'm going to play the game since I don't have a Cube anymore.

You know that 'missing the point' thing?
You're doing it again.

You know that saying you won't by a revolution because the pushed back TP to implement the revo controller is just plan retarded, i don't mean stupid, i mean IQ barely higher than a functional toothbrush.
that probably go back to you getting a sega system as a kid.
Well, since you quoted me...
1) I'm not a Sony fanboy. I stay neutral and play all the systems. Cept NGage.
2) I never said I wouldn't buy (or by) a Rev. In fact, I've said I will many times.
3) My IQ is 137, thanks. And no, it wasn't tested on some blog fodder site.
4) Yes, I've owned a Sega system. First the Genesis, then Sega CD, and finally Dreamcast. I missed out on the Saturn. I also owned a Atari, NES, SNES, Gameboy, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and GC. I was neutral back then too, though SNES had the better games over Gen.
The one thing we agree about is being tired of fanboys, but I'm tired of them on every console, and PC/Mac/Linux to boot. Nintendo Evangelists sure show the most spirit though, I think even the Apple iFans are scared of em.
