The January edition of the UK's PC Gamer includes an exclusive preview of the new title from Introversion, the creators of the two indie classics, Uplink and Darwinia.
The new game, titled DEFCON, is a multiplayer strategy which pitches two players against one another in a game of Global Thermonuclear War.
In DEFCON a player must manage their launch silos in an attempt to defend their major cities against nuclear attack while simultaneously launching their own attacks against the other player.
Nuclear subs, bombers, radar sites, the possibility of 8 hour marathon games played in real time in the background while at work and the typical Introversion style mean that DEFCON is shaping up to be another classic, expect more info at http://www.introversion.co.uk/defcon/ soon.

This description gives me flashbacks to the "Wargames" movie. Did they learn nothing from this film? In a game of Global Thermonuclear War, there can be no winner. :-)

I never tried out Darwinia but I absolutely loved Uplink, even if it did get a little repetitive towards the end. I really look forward to seeing what else these guys can do!

Didn't James Bond play this in Never Say Never Again?

Uplink and Darwinia were really cool concepts, but get extremely repetitive after a while. Hopefully they correct this trend.

Darwinia was okay, but I think Missile Command is kind of an old concept...

Thanks varsity, I found some screenshots on the DVD after I posted the news but I wasn't sure about uploading them to the net as PCG seem to have some kind of exclusivity deal.
Well spotted, Danhoo :) The article in PCG mentions that Wargames is an inspiration behind the idea and you can see the connection in Varsity's screenshot.
Another uniquely styled game, and again another tribute to Wargames. Uplink had the Protovision game server that you could play Global Thermonuclear Warfare on, heh. Hopefully Introversion will come through again, I'm a massive fan of Uplink and Darwinia.

The Christmas edition of the UK's PC Gamer includes an exclusive preview of the new title from Introversion, the creators of the two indie classics, Uplink and Darwinia.
Are you sure it's not the January edition? I have issue 156 here which is "Christmas 2005", and I believe the article about DEFCON is in issue 157, which I would assume to be "January 2006".
Bought 156 today, when 157 should have been out. The shop I bought it at must be a bit slow getting the new issue.
Looking forward to getting the latest issue and reading this article.

Oh my mistake, I keep forgetting that they label them a month in advance.
I'll correct that if I can...

The description of the game reminds me of an old classic called "nuclear war" for the amiga. I absolutely adored that game... *sniff*

That screenshot is nuts! I can't even tell what is going on, but it looks like both sides are about to get fucked by those triangle doohickies. Looks interesting.

Ah, Introversion, how we love you. It's nice to see that the recent release of Darwinia on Steam has really put some wind in their sails. I was feeling as though I was the only person to play Uplink but there sure seem to be a lot of Uplinkers on the boards.
I'll be lining up in whatever kind of queue, virtual or real, that I need to be in to get this game!

I reinstalled Uplink after completing Darwinia the other day and had a great time.
I went from 'Confident' to 'Uber-Skilled' in one hack when I found a bank account containing 600'000c and stole the lot!
